Yep. You need to get ready to pay lots more bucks to get over-the-counter meds. Go see at: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/Got-a-doctor_s-prescription-for-that-Advil_-1353869-105899143.html#ixzz13yCe2BsU
Here's a brief excerpt to give you an idea of what we're all in for, according to the Examiner article:
"By eliminating a broad range of legitimate uses, (the new health care law: TNHCL) dramatically increases the risks of losing the pre-tax money the account holder contributes to an FSA. Under TNHCL, unless you make additional doctor's appointments, you are effectively barred from using your pre-tax funds to purchase legitimate & necessary medical items like Tylenol for your baby or Advil for your arthritis. One FSA provider, 24Hour Flex, recently gave notice with a list of drugs clients would no longer be able to purchase without a prescription: "Acid controllers, allergy & sinus...anti-gas...baby rash creams...respiratory treatment...cough, cold & flu ...stomach remedies, feminine anti-fungal...pain relief."
But I live on Benedryl & Tums & other OTC meds, & I can barely afford them, now!
Batten down the hatches, fellow Americans, it's gonna be a bumpy night...

Every year it's something. Usually I'm signing petitions so I can use ginger for my stomach or mint. They want to regulate, by prescription, herbs for healing. Many of us get together and sign against that.
So where do we sign that over the counter doesn't become a prescription? They've gone crazy. My allegy meds, zyrtec, is no longer prescription, but it's abotu $15 for a week's workth of pills. I would be paying $9 a month if it was still prescription.
I think it's all about $. Advil and tums don't cost much, so let's make them prescription so they we can find a way to pump up the $.
So where do we sign a petition for this latest foolishness?

According to the people above, if we don't have a flex plan, it's not a problem. I don't have a flex plan. I'm lucky that I'm married and he has a plan or I wouldn't have any!

Spall - Actually I did read the article. And then I commented on something that was NOT in the article but was germain to the conversation. I expected that at least you would notice this.
Maggie - I understand the frustration when people insinuate that you left something out intentionally when actually you put in the part that sparked you to start the discussion.

Laglen, you've got the picture. Oh, & knowing, you, I know YOU read the entire artcle I posted, despite Spall's usual slur & attempt to smear any & all Conservatives, while claiming to be a Republican. If she is, then she's a RINO. Perhaps she's forgotten MyLot frowns on simply copying & pasting ENTIRE ARTICLES. So I left NOTHING out.
I'm just sayin'....

laglen, I expected that at least you would actually read the article Maggiepie put up...or the first response to this discussion. An important part of the article, which for some unknown reason, Maggiepie chose to leave out of the discussion is this:
Employees who use tax-free Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts to pay for out-of-pocket medical expenses will soon have to reconsider their decision to do so.
Do you understand what a tax-free Flexible Spending Account is? It's money from your earnings that you don't pay taxes on which is supposed to be used for medical purposes. Why should some folks be allowed to buy OTC products with tax-free dollars while the rest of us aren't?

Yep. Sux. And I don't have FSA--yet, anyway, but I agree, it's so bad for those who will be hustled into this bureaucrat's nest....

I pay for all of this stuff out of my pocket. I don't have a FSA right now! I have enough money taken out of my check for taxes,my retirement fund and health insurance! I'll believe this when I see it! Right now I get my allergy medicince OTC and it doesn't bother me!

Making us get a prescription for over the counter medication is reaching beyond what is necessary. What else can they do to us in the name of health care?2 people like this

Anything they want. They own it, now, along with many other previously private sector businesses. Welcome to Socialism.

I had no idea all this mess would turn out like this. It just means we'll be more likely to purchase those things through the black market! It'll be cheaper than paying for insurance, then paying to go to the doctor to get the prescription and then paying the pharmacist to fill it. Which of course that in itself will cost more since more hands are involved! Guess we can see who is gaining from all this bureaucratic paperwork!

I totally agree. And knowing the track record of the people in charge of this debacle, I did have an "idea all this mess would turn out like this," & I'm positive we'll see far worse before this law is repealed.

Hiya Maggie,,
Second Post around I am getting fed up of losing my response with that loggin in business.
Oh well I was saying to you that kind of thing is going on here already with certain medicines like you say Tylenol.
In a way I think it´s silly to go to the Doctors for a Nappy Rash Cream as I went to mine loads of times and he gave me loads of prescriptions for the rashes that did nothing but make it worse if anything.
My solution was to buy disposable Nappies and that worked in less than two Days Nappy Rash gone and never came back and his Skin had a chance to recover.
I don´t like Disposables but I have had to use them for my last Baby as there were no more of those other kind of material Nappy liners that you could put inside the other terry ones.
So I was just wasting the Doctors time and mine. I reckon I bought about six or seven of those creams and they did nothing at all.
I just feel sorry for anyone who cannot afford to pay for a Doctor and those kind of People are on the increase.
As for ones like Tylenol People will buy them from where they can other than going to the Doctor. They do it here already and everywhere else I should imagine.
Take care now. Sue.xxx

Maybe it's just me but I found the most disturbing part of the article was where we are told that control of our healthcare is now in the hands of the IRS and they consider motherhood a "pre-existing condition"!
The article nailed it on the head when it said, "This is fitting, because the Obama administration created the FSA restrictions to milk taxpayers and thereby help conceal Obamacare's true costs."
Nothing like a little deceit with our politics, right? And we wonder why our nation is going to hell in a handbasket!
I did not vote for the jerk so my conscience is clear but I am still having to bear the oppression he instigates. I would love to emigrate if only there were a safe place to emigrate to!

Yeah, my eyes snagged on that one, too. And the only place completely corrupt & arrogant politician-free is Heaven. I'm getting so it seems nice to dream of migrating there!
Kidding, but not much.
