Pop Culture Items

A lot of fads have come and gone, the media bringing them in, and then taking them out. Perhaps some of you had items to commemorate certain times or eras in pop culture. Do you any of you remember the TV sitcom called Family Matters? It was about a black famiy in Chicago, with kind of mixed group of family living in the same house (the dad was a police officer). Their next door neighbor was a geek named Steve Urkel. Well, guess who has an Urkel doll? Me! It has to be somewhere in my parent's garage. I got it decades ago. You pull a string and it says several of the Urkel character's catch phrases. Like, did I do that? or Got any cheese? Any of you have or have had pop culture "remnants"?

I have some Barbie Dolls and some Cabbage Patch dolls, but not much else. I have had hula hoops, but I can no longer make them go. In a way, even our humble Frisbee is a part of Pop culture.

That's so cool. I always wanted a Cabbage Patch doll when I was a kid. I made sure my own daughter got her own Cabbage patch doll. She loves her. I think she will be the collector.

Ah alas, nope don't have anything that I've saved from my "pop" culture days, and I wish I had. Years and years ago I had the complete four set of the original The Beatles dolls that came out in 1964. Out of curiosity I was looking over at Ebay and found someone selling them...I nearly fell off my chair since someone is selling them for $1,200 *sighs*

When my uncle was a kid he collected baseball cards. One day he came home and his dad had thrown them out mistakenly when cleaning his room. Looking back now, he almost get sick about thinking how much he could have gotten for a Sandy Koufax or Roger Maris original card.

You just reminded me. No I didn't have baseball cards, but had the Star Wars and Indiana Jones cards--threw them out too..Also used to have a lot of the Star Wars action figures...yes threw them out too, I just have my Yoda one now. I think basically over the years I'd throw things out due to lack of room to keep everything

Meant to mention.. we've been cleaning out FIL's garage, and the in laws saved everything from hubby and his sister's childhood.. I mean their cribs are still in that garage! They're hoarders! Anyways.. you should see all the toys we're coming across, the old transformers, GI Joe's, his sister had a She-Ra Castle.. unfortunately unusable.

I'm not sure if this qualifies but for a long time I had an article that I had cut from the front page of our local newspaper announcing the birth of Pebbles Flintstone. I was quite surprised at the time to see that a cartoon character made front page news but the birth of Pebbles was very much anticipated because we had all gone through Wilma's entire pregnancy with her on the weekly TV show. Maybe it was bigger news than it would be today because, back then, we didn't have cable TV or 8,000 channels to choose from. We had three channels so there really wasn't much of a choice as to what to watch. I'd say that a very large part of the country was tuned in when the birth of Pebbles Flintstone was nearing. Ah, those were the days. Oh, by the way, in one of my many, many moves, I lost that newspaper article. I was really upset when that happened but, like all our stuff, it was just another thing to lug around.

I had a Fonz mug similar to this one - Happy Day's Fonz mug
Wow...An Urkel doll? I have been thinking and thinking about what I had from an era gone by and could not think of a single thing until one memory came to mind. My friend got me a Fonz mug from Happy Days! I loved it as much as I loved the Fonz! I have moved a million times since I received that gift and I don’t know where it is now, I suspect it may be in Mum and Dad’s garage…Oh those were the (Happy) days...(LOL)! Sorry...

I watched Family Matters and really enjoyed the cast. Sorry no doll or any other items from that show. I do have books from several other shows and many I Love Lucy movies. I'm older than your other posters. Wish I kept some of the items from several shows lost during moves. I love the older shows in black and white.

I haven't held on to anything like that....unless it's hiding someplace in a box I have overlooked. I used to have a pet rock that I kept forever.....don't know if one of the kids confinscated it or what! LOL.....I do remember Steve Urkel...are the pants on it pulled up really high?

for some reason I don't see you with an Urkel doll...lol I really can't think of anything I had from years past, then again I still have stuff stored away in that stupid barn getting ruined with every passing day..:( The only thing I can think of was actually my sister's, and that is "Toppie the Elephant" the same elephant I have been trying to get appraised for two years now...

Yes, I remember this show but I didn't remember the name of it and I definitely remember Steve Urkel, lol! He was a character, wasn't he? I didn't know there was any such thing as an Urkel doll, though. I had quite a few pop culture items over the years. I was a big Beatle fan back in the 60s. Somebody gave me some Beatle dolls for Christmas that I kept on my dresser for a long time. I still have those dolls in one of my drawers in my bedroom but they're not in the best of shape I hate to say, lol.

I also still have my frisbee. The Beatles' dolls that pyerocket is talking about is what I have. I also had a mood ring back in the 70s and I think I still have it somewhere. I just happened to remember the super balls that were popular in the late 60s. Several people at school got one and I later got one, myself. You could barely bounce those things and they would bounce up really high! I don't have the super ball any more.

Nope, I don't have any remnants, but my Mom still has some of my sisters and my Barbie dolls and troll dolls. She won't let us touch the trolls. She swears they're going to be worth something someday!

I still have my collection of Star Wars figurines; as well as those I collected when 'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe' was all the rage. While many of them are probably no longer desirable - even by the most obsessive of collectors - they did provide me with many hours of entertainment throughout my childhood.

Yes I remember the show. But I didn't find out they had an Urkel doll until I was watching one of those "Where are they Now" shows. How neat. I found a remnant in my grandfather's basement a few years ago. It was a Evel Knievel doll!
