love between dogs and cats

I was watching a short film on TV about love between cats and dogs and it reminded me of this story. We had a large Great Dane dog that was black, he was about 6 months old, at the same time someone gave us a tiny yellow kitten. The dog loved that kitten and it felt the same way. At times you would hear a loud purr and not be able to find the kitten until you looked at the dog, out of his mouth would hang this stringy, wet yellow tail. That kitten loved to be carried inside the dog's mouth and he would do this until he got tired and spit the kitten out. Then he would lick it dry and within a few minutes you would find them both curled up together sound asleep. The dog did not live with us for long he needed a much larger place to live but the cat lived to old age and all of his life he loved dogs. Do you have stories like this?

I had a friend that got a Weimeraner puppy, and she had a big orange striped tomcat that either she owned or just fed. That cat loved the puppy, and they would play together. The cat would catch rabbits and take them to the dog in its pen. Dog would run at cat and roll it over when they were both in the yard. The old tom cat got hit by a car, and the dog obviously mourned it and would not eat. My friend tended to discard or change pets the way some people change shoes, so she got rid of the dog.

I feel so sorry for them both. I wish people wouldn't do such callous things.

This reminds me of a CNN video clip, where a baby squirrel was filmed being nursed by a cat. The litter also had about 8 cats inside, and the owners didn't want to leave this squirrel out of the equation. They have planned to let him live inside their house. Its out of love and affection animals care for other species. It seems a little weird at first, but then you realize its all because of affection. There is a bad consequence when this happens in the wild as such animals may find it difficult to associate with their own kind. Its a marveling scenario and only nature can predict such occurrences.

I doubt anything like this would happen in a truly wild setting

My dogs have always gotten along with cats, no choice in our house. But Sadie is ok with our cats and still chases strays.

I have never had a dog that liked cats so I envy you that wonderful experience. Did the cat sulk and miss the dog when he left? My dog Cookie has never killed a cat but nearly caught one in our yard last night, you would think they would not come over the fence for fear of the dogs coming out! She will chase down and kill anything on 4 legs. She's not a vicious dog but Rat Terriers are great hunters. My mom had one as a child that helped them hunt game, that was in the 1920's. Gus, my Boston Terrier, would not mean to kill anything but does like to bark at the cats. The cats are all strays that I feed.

I've had cats and dogs as buddies more than once and I love when that happens. I guess it really depends on the cats, some never learn to like dogs but when the do it's fun to watch.

Oh my goodness!!! That is too funny!!! I would laugh so hard if I saw something like that! I have two dogs, and I'd also love to have a cat at some point. I can't really have one now because I live in a small apartment. And our apartment only allows 2 cats and/or dogs... so we're at the maximum! I also have pet rodents and fish, so I'd worry about the cats getting them! Plus, like I said, our apartment is small and there's really no where to go if the cat wanted to get away from the dogs or vice versa. But maybe one day when we have a bigger place we'll get a cat or two! A place where we can keep the rodents and fish in an entirely separate room and keep the door shut to keep the cats out! My dogs have never lived with cats before, so I'm not sure how they'd do. But they've been good with the cats they've interacted with! One of our neighbors had an outdoor cat and my dogs would come in contact with it on our walks. They got along real well! And one time the cat just walked right in our front door! Our dogs were fine with our visitor and just followed the cat around smelling it! Also, my boyfriend's sister has a cat. Our dogs have been fine with her cat.

We have two dogs and one cat (two if you count a feral one that only comes in for food). There was as many as three dogs and five cats. Of the original are Poppy, a border collie and Bobbin the cat. They've known each other for years and Poppy is obsessed with Bobbin. She gets ever so excited when Bobbin enters the room. Poppy will mostly sit there and watch her, sometimes she'll nip her. This doesn't bother Bobbin, however. She'll look at Poppy and just go 'Meow', as if to say 'What you do that for?'. We've got another dog now. A mongrel called Mimi, whom we got off my fiancee's sister. We heard that she went mental whenever she saw a cat, so we were worried about Bobbin and, sure enough, the first day we had her, Bobbin came in. Mimi went for her. Now Bobbin is as placid as anything I've seen, she never retaliates, but she then lashed out and hissed at Mimi. This went on a couple more times. Now they are best of chums. Mimi will still chase cats, but she knows that sweet cute little Bobbin the cat can give out as much as she can take.

I had a great dane once and he was such a loving dog. The size of this breed is totally opposite of its nature. He would sit on the same sofa with my cat and they really enjoyed the cat/dog friendly bond. Now I can never have cats in my house as my four terrier dogs are anti cats. They will not give peace to any animals besides their own species within their territory.

Oh...That’s so nice! Our cat Rosie was a stray we adopted around seven years ago when she showed up on our door step abused and hungry. She stayed outside on our porch while we tried to find her owners and immediately took to our dog Cassie which is strange because it wasn’t a situation of the two of them growing up together or anything like that. The two of them loved each other and slept in Cassie’s kennel together and were often seen walking around the yard together sniffing each other’s butts! Rosie lives inside with the other cat now but often says hello to Cassie and they still share a friendship.

there r all kinds of stories. A zoo keeper had 2 lion cubs that a mother lion wouldn't or couldn't feed. They had a dog that had a litter of puppies, they placed the cubs with the puppies. The r growing up together.

Oh my, that was nice. Cats and dogs were always at loggerheads and we seldom see all these occurrences happening between these two people, lol. I guess the two of them were lovers in their past lives which explains their actions.

Dogs and cats usually are not animals that get along. there are always exceptions. Some cats and dogs live quite harmoniously in their family dwellings. You just can't assume anything when it comes to animal behavior.

The story that you shared is almost incredible. I can't imagine the Great Dane and the kitten being so in love with each other! I never had any experience like this with my dogs, they usually don't get along well with the cats. The only time when my previous dog, Nera, was friend with a cat, was when my nephiew came to visit my parents. He was a nasty toddler and he chased the cat all over the house. When the cat was hiding under the bed, he started to chase Nera all over the house. Then I came inside and I found both Nera and my parents' cat tired and they were so helpless so that they both jumped into my arms to protect them from the little devil. It was the only time when Nera and Felix laid in my lap without arguing, they were terified by my nephiew and they both needed protection.
