So I'm getitng lunch ready for the kiddos and I hear my cell phone go off for a text. So I look and it's not DH it's a solicitation for a "payday loan"!
Now how in heck did they get my number? I don't respond to any of that stuff on tv or the internet where they say "text __________ to get....." or "to vote on this or that" so how did this occur?!?! Is there anything I can do about it? I have a prepaid thru virgin mobile and it costs me .10-.15 a text and if it's SPAM I surely don't feel I should be paying for this in-coming text KWIM? I know it's my first one however, I don't want more to follow either.

So wait do you have small children about the house. because i remember when my little brother took up my phone and was typing in the number he saw on the newspaper. That number would be for vip text and it would have ate off all my credit. i caught him in time to cancel the request so i would just like to know if that could be a possibility in your case.

I doubt my kids have done anything. They do not know how to use a cell phone nor can they read well enough to know how to "sign up" for anything. But I can see in your instance things would be very upsetting if this was tied to your credit card.

Hello SnuggleBunnies,
You could use for of the Spam blacklisting software such as Blackballer or Blacklist. I hope you find them handy, if you want to stop spam text messages or spam calls. Network based 'do not disturb' profile, i am not really sure if that would keep such spam text messages from coming to your cell phone.

That is annoying. And it costs you, wow. Hopefully it won't continue. I guess we never know where all our numbers actually go. I got one once from a rival cell company I hadn't ever done any business with.

My mom's friend was showing me her phone, and she had spam texts all over the place. She doesn't even use text, didn't know they were there. I wonder how those people got her number too.

I think that those cellphone numbers are recycled quite a bit, of you just got the phone that is probably a phone number of someone who had just got theirs cut off or what not, not quite sure. I'm not sure how good Virgin Mobile's tech support is anymore, so I wouldn't know what to tell ya, but hope they did give you back your money or credited you with more free texts etc.

I received another text message the other day and noticed that it said stop service or it will $9.99 per month. I know I did not order a find a mate anywhere, as it was saying I received a new message from my new mate...LOL
So I called my cell phone company first and they confirmed I was not subscribed, so they told me to be sure send STOP service and I received a text back immediately saying not subscribed. I suppose if I had replied I would have been stuck so luckily I did not and my cell phone company blocked their service.
Something you can try if this happens again. But remember call the cell phone company first.

I do not do text at all, I also have a prepaid phone. Perhaps your provider could tell you how to deal with this.

oh my 3snugglebunnies thats awful payday loans on one's cell phone, those people one should avoid at all costs. anyway is there a way you can block spam on cell phones? I ask a s I have never had a cell phone. those payday loan people really get one as the interest on those loans are outrageous. I would ask my cell phone provider for a way to stop getting that spam. boy are they ever trying to bump up '
business. hope you find a way to stop spam from your cell phone, I was getting so many spam on my landline phone I had to go to the gov. do not call thing on the new an sign up for stopping
all these unwanted calls. Some boarding house had evidently had my phone number before me and and the residents had run up credit card debts. so I was getting phone calls from them wanting nina or steve or george or a whole lot of other people. I finally got hold of the company and told them that phone number was now mine so please
do not call me. and I did get it stopped then.

I have been lucky that I have never received any span texts. My father actually did and I had his text blocked. He is 80 and doesn't text anyways, so I figured it was better to block texting from his phone so he doesn't have to pay for any of them. I do know (as others here have said) that just recently they have allowed cell phone numbers to be released to marketers so you have to register your cell phone as well.

It is really a spam and I am sorry to hear that it is deducting to your account because that is how mobile network works in the USA. You account will be deducted for the outgoing and receiving of text messages unless you are subscribed to Unlimited texting. For me, I just delete those things instantly and never entertained such messages. There is no deduction in our credits here in our country for that if you received messages.

Yes, i know, i have to catch up with her soon !
