If you had to choose to give up one of your five senses?

If you had to give up hearing, seeing, feeling, smelling or tasting which would you give up first? Which would you least likely want to part with? And of coarse why?

I think I would say "taste", for right now. If you ask me again another time, I may choose a different one. I think taste can easily be overcome with the sense of smell, because that is closely related to taste, and more of the taste sensation comes from the ability to smell than your taste buds. And, then, when I have to choke down awful meds, it will be much much easier.

Oh, we're different! For me, I could give up first my sense of smell. There are times when I have lost my sense of smelling temporarily due to severe colds and I have managed without it. So I guess, for me, it's the sense of smelling.

That is so interesting! I need my sense of smell, probably because I like flowers and candles, and like to smell things baking in the oven. It makes me anticipate taste.

Ya these are the two I would have to choose of and it's really hard. Smell or taste..but I have to see and I have to hear those are top of the list. What about feeling..that would make one thing in my life non existent and we can't live without that. So I think I'd pick smell for now. Even though it would hinder my sense of taste too. Kind like giving up both either way.

What a great question! This is a tough one. I love music and the tv and hearing my kids voices so hearing is out. Seeing is so important I couldn't handle that one at all. Smelling. Hmmm. Tasting I wouldn't want to give up. I like o taste stuff so very much. Hehe And tasting. Are we kidding? So, I guess Smelling would be the one.

Yes, it does but that is the only one I could do without. It certainly is sad that people do without them everyday. My great grandmother lived well into her 90's and was blind. I used to read to her. She was a dear and still stitches patches together to make quilts.

I agree. But anyone who loves food knows our smelling helps us taste too. It was a hard question when I came across it. I wouldn't imagine living without any of them. It is so sad that there are people who do everyday.

i think if i give up my sense of smell i might just lose my sense of taste too... so actually right now i would like to specifically lose the sense of feeling.. but not physically.. i guess more on the emotional side so i could just stop feeling and just be numb about the things this world has offered me!!!

Lol that was a different answer. I also said this our sense of smell helps us taste. But we can still taste a little when our nose is stuffed up. Emotional feeling isn't exactly considered one of our main senses, and giving up feeling would suck too. It's a hard decision huh.

Perhaps I will give up smelling. The hearing, seing and feeling are very important and I can't give them all. I enjoy eating and therefore I don't want to lose the ability of tasting. So there is only smelling left. And perhaps it is fine that I can't smell that something sticks. According to it, I am willing to lose smelling. I love China

Yes it would be nice to not have to smell some things. Like farts.

on the basis of what I have to give up all that and why, if indeed we do not want to be rude because it was part of ourselves and our rights does not belong to someone else, who would give up so easily when still on hold

Hi, I would surely give up smelling as the first preferred and the least preferred would be feeling.Once I lose Smelling sense I would go to any stink place that really does not matter to me and body odor of other will not be my issue.Maybe I cannot enjoy the perfumes but that really does not matter to me . What maters to me the most are my feelings of touch, eyesight taste and listening. The last i would lose is feeling of skin even without eyesight we will be to feel the touch of the other person.

I agree touch is very important too. It's funny how commonly we use our senses without realizing how much they are worth.

I would give up taste first. It is less essential to survival as I see it. I think I would give up hearing last.

I would agree taste is one of the lesser important but I love food. I would still want the chance to taste it. There are some smells in life that aren't so great. But I think I would hold onto my sight most. I love to see beauty.

I would not want to give up any of them. The reason is that no one willingly gives up their senses unless it is to save someone's life and when they do it, they do not live that long afterwards - the bomb would have done too much damage, the wheel of the car crushed one and he or she sied or their injuries. It is the same as the question about being rich or happy.

I would give up smelling. I remember when I had a stuffy nose that I couldn't smell but I didn't feel sad at the time.

I guess either smelling or tasting. I couldn't imagine giving up my sight, sense of touch, or hearing, and these were the two I was left with by process of elimination. Not being able to taste, yes, would kind of suck, but you'd live. I mean, you just wouldn't get to enjoy food, and that wouldn't be the end of the world. Might even lose a pound or two. LOL

I think that I would choose to give up my sense of taste at this point in my life. The reason that I choose that is because I would still be able to smell all of the wonderful things in life and if I didn't have my sense of taste, then I think I would be much less likely to overeat the way that I am accustomed to doing right now. That said, I really don't think that I would like to give up any of my five senses.

Smelling would be the sense that I would get up. Every other sense is really something that I need. There are certain ways that my life would improve without certain smells invading my life. Granted, there will be certain smells that I would miss but I am just trying to figure out what the lesser of all evils would be and smell is at the top of the list. Hearing is most certainly out. I enjoy listening to music. Therefore if I cannot hear the music, I might go slightly insane. The same with seeing as I enjoy seeing things with my eyes. Tasting would be a bummer to give up. And feeling would be another one of those senses that I would go mad if I did not have. To lose the sense of touch, would mean that I cannot even feel the ground beneath my feet. That would really mess up my mind for sure.

I think it would be smelling, I don't think I can live without seeing or hearing. I love reading very much and the mere thought that I'd loose my sight makes me want to cry :(

Yes loosing sight is something a lot of people go through when they get older. I am not looking forward to it. I love photography and colors and the beautiful things in the world.

If I'm going to give up one of my senses, It's going to be my sense of touch. That way, I'm immune to physical pain and I can dive from a high-storey building and won't even feel a thing. Lol. Although that could kill me so I'm not really gonna do it.
