On line friends you wouldn't have in real life.

DH plays a game on Facebook which is one of those where it helps to have groups of FB friends playing together in groups. Because of this he has a lot of "friends" who he doesn't have anything in common with other than playing the game. However, he does give their profiles the once over just in case they are unsavoury in some way.
He had a request from another gamer to add him but turned it down because when he had a look at the profile the guy was a neo-Nazi. He noticed that another of his friends (a real friend, not just a FB gamer) had the guy added and was in his gaming group. He pm'd the friend and said "check the guys profile, he's a nutjob" but he pm'd back saying it was worth having him as a friend because of the gaming advantages.
Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing? Where does it end, will some folks have anyone as a friend because gaming is more important than some of the things they get up to in real life?

I guess if you have to have alot of 'friends' for a game or to gain more points on some site it would okay but usually I am more particular than that. Neo nazi's huh? That is scarey! I think I would have to draw the line there. I don't want them to think I am in agreement with them or even want to be involved with them at all. People now days are very self involved and want the end result in their favor regardless of the implications.

I add everyone on mylot who requests my friendship. I think it is interesting to meet different people and it is also safer than knowing someone in person. It's not like I would consider them a true friend. Also, there are a lot of people who we are friend in real life who have not revealed a lot about themselves and maybe there are information you can know only from the internet about them.

hvedra-
I just recently deleted someone for similar reasons. I have a lot of acquaintances on my list for gaming but the moment I see that sort of behavior I delete. I can tolerate a lot of things but out right bigots I cannot, and I most certainly do not think anything kindly of the Neo Nazi slime that is out there.
There do seem to be quite a few of them on FB though spreading their hatred. I play a particular game that seems to attract them all and it's quite disappointing because I really like the game.
