Trying to use up all my freezer food, before getting more.

I am going to have to defrost my two fridge freezers as well as my large chest freezer, as it really needs defrosting. So this week just like last week i plan on eating as much of the food out of it as possible. It is just trying to get things that all go together to eat up all from the freezer to empty it out quicker.I thought that if i empty out the chest freezer and sort that out then i could move on to the fridge freezers before i do a large shop on frozen things, like a chopped whole pig.

That will never happen in my family. MY parents will buy what's required and never more. They prefer to take their own sweet time to finish the cook in the freezer than to rush before buying new food again. PArtly it's also due to the size of our freezer, we can't have that much food in it, so we end up buying a new fridge with big freezer, just to store even more food.

I don't have any trouble emptying out the freezer. It mostly has ice cream in it.

We've been trying to do that cause we need to defrost ours. We've cleaned out some stuff but we've also added some homemade chili so we haven't made it to the defrosting yet again...sigh.

haha =D That's what my mom is always doing. Clear up her food in the freezer before getting more. IF not, there's gonna be too much food and nobody is eating them. WHile it's a waste to throw it away, she will cook more often just to make space.. haha =D I guess nobody buys more food when the freezer is full huh?

Now is a good time to do that when food is on sale for the holidays. I just did it too. Then today Top Sirloin steak was on sale for $2.47 a lb so I stocked up!

We just needed to empty the freezer so tht we can defrost it, also we are going to get a large pig cut up to go in there so that we have most of the meat, also we will know how old the food is in the freeze. There are 6 children,as well as me and my husband that all eat here so we need all the freezers full up.With it getting soo cold we want to stock up so that we do not have to go out much in the cold.I have had my large chest freezer for over 15 years so it is working still well just like when we first got it.

I just defrosted mine and moved everything around so that I know what I need to use first. I will keep buying and keep rotating it as long as I can afford to, that way when money is tight or the prices are too high, I have back up.

You should get those type of freezers and refrigerators that don't need defrosting. We have that and it saves a lot of clean time. But since you have to do a lot of defrosting for now, I hope all goes well and you won't get lazy in the middle of everything (like I do). Good luck to your home cleaning before the holidays! For sure a lot of stuff would sit in there for a couple of months after the holidays!

Thats what I need to do is defrost my freezer, we've got so much food in there, we need to start eating as much as we can too. My husband got half a beef from his boss for his bonus, so last week we were giving food away, and then he went deer hunting, so now we've got to find some room for deer meat as well. Its a tedious job defrosting your freezer I think we only do it about once every two years, so now its time.

Haha. You sound like my mother. Once a year, she mentions that she needs to eat he stuff in her freezer. We do I keep buying things every week and stuff it in the freezer lol I think you are doing the right thing with the frozen foods. I have the same problem with the cans in my cupboard...why do keep buying more?

Using up the old food in a freezer is a wise idea before adding more. It is the best way to avoid freezer burn. Sometimes we keep things for so sold we casn't even remember buying it. Stocking the freezer can be a good idea. We just have to remember to use up the foods in a reasonable amount of time.

I think it is a good habit to use up the frozen things before we go the mass shopping. Sometimes we found that we rely too much on the fridge that some of the food is stocked for over half year. We always think that the food could not be rotted under 0, and always neglect the manufacturing date of the product. Sometimes we keep buying food when we go shopping that lead to the surplus of the food.

You could invite some friends over and make food fiesta . You could watch films and etc. . That way you could free some space and have fun at the same time. Good luck , and I hope you have fun eating pork ....mmm delicious.

I know, sometimes that is a difficult thing. I go on eating plans from time to time to make clear space and make sure I use up the food while it is still fresh and good.

I have some things in the freezer that may have been there a bit too long, too. Eating that up before it gets unusable will save on the grocery bill. That is good!

I wish I had a small chest freezer. My daughter and I could get pork steaks(we love), hamberger and chicken on special and freeze them. Also freeze veggies in the Summer for soups in the Winter. I used to do such things but got out of the habit and now that I don't cook anymore it just doesn't happen.

I am going to try and eat the food in the fridg as well as the freezer. With Christmas almost here, I will need more room for Holiday foods. I got a new fridge last year and it isn't nearly as big as the one I had. Now I am looking for more space! The best way to do that, is to eat the foods that are in there before replacing them.
