AVG AntiVirus 2011 is the best Antivirus available out there for free . It has all the features and utilities needed to keep your computer virus free . The new and advanced version is faster and more secure than the previous versions . The rate of detection has also be enhanced . Also the found threats can be removed without much ado .I had tried AVG , Avast and Avira free versions . And i felt the other two couldn't even come close to AVG . Avast has a high detection rate , but its removal rate is poor . Also Avast and Avira consume more system resources compared to AVG . That being said , since it is a free antivirus version , it is recommended you to install a separate anti spyware or malware . I have been using the IOBit Security 360 Free version . It works Ultra fine along with AVG to help my keep my system at its peak :)

hi bargavashok, thanks for the response, now itself i have downloaded avg antivirus free download,i have to run the same after closing of the kaspersky antivirus, from today morning my system screen turned to black from blue, what is the cause, and right side down a message is coming that your system is counterfeiting windows ,like that now what to do have a nice day

If you know how to do , then format your system . And the cause for this counterfeiting Windows is , you must have enables the Windows Automatic Updates . In that there will be an update file called Microsoft Genuine Check . It will check whether you have purchased a genuine version of windows . If you are using a pirated version then it will display the message you see . After you have formatted your system , disable the automatic updates . And then always install only one Anti Virus software . So install only AVG after you format . If you are not going to format , then first completely remove your Kaspersky , then install AVG . Kaspersky must be a little hard to remove . So I recommend another IOBit software named IOBit Uninstaller . That will remove all traces of whatever you want from your Hard Disk and even your Registry .

AVG antivirus is the best for free usage, but it has its limitation. In my experience, there is no Best of the BEST. There are only good anti-virus softwares that does their jobs. One such software is Kaspersky, I have been using this for some time now and it has served me good. Another top giants are NOD32, and bitdefender. Well, I try to stay away from Mcafee and Norton due to huge system requirements that lags my laptop and PC so much.

Hi Jacobus1919, Yes its true that Norton anti virus uses a large amount of system resources and slows down computers very noticeably. but i was amazed to find out that their version 2009 and onwards is now very light on system resources and does not slows down the system. I used to hate Norton ant virus. but now... it is a good if not the best paid anti virus program out there.

Like many of the folks have said AVG is one of the best free anti-virus and spy ware programs on the net currently. It has frequent updates and it always protects your computer from most threats that exist on the web at this time.It has been around for a few years and is well know and trusted and I run it on all my computers and laptop and trust it completely.Every time i am on the web and hit a bad site or file it quickly contains it and deletes it without damaging any system files in the process.

most of new anti-virus today can detect malwares and virus. Make sure that your anti-virus are updated daily. I can suggest you free avast. But i am using today was AVG. Use free AVG. I will protect your PC totally. It run smoothly behind your pc. There are a lot of Free anti-virus in market like Avira, AVG, Avast. Update it daily.

well.. not only antivirus is only responsible for virus or malware attack.. you should also take care while surfing, downloading or inserting new media like cd or pendrive.. while inserting pendrive/cd just keep shift pressed to prevent autorun.. also not allowed any site to install their toolbar including yahoo or msn.. by the way.. coming to your question..good free antivirus is avg and if you want pirated version or buy a licence.. go for quick heal, norton or mcafee.. and if you os is genuine I recommended to install windows defender too..

So far, the AVG Antivirus 2011 is the best. AVG's products have always been trusted and efficient. They have a wide variety of virus definitions and keeps it up to date. The next one would be Trend Micro's Housecall. It's a free online scanning software which scans your computer for hours. But, it's a powerful software. It eliminated every virus that it sees. So, pick your choice. I would take the AVG.

use avast anti virus, it as strong prtection towards viruses. its the best free protection you can get, don't install avg, it as less detection rate and your pc will be surely affected with virus. avira is doing good, but in recent test it was unable to delete malware. check http://www.av-comparatives.org/ to know more about anti virus anti virus alone protection is not sufficient, malware protection: as i have already mentioned avast as stong protection towards viruses and can detect all malware, but question is whether it can remove them?? use malwarebytes which is free but doens't have a real protection but hte protection level is stong. it can remove all malware in your computer, it is a malware removal tool spyware protection: avira is good at detecting spyware and also removing them, but avast is great at detect but can't remove all spywares. use superantispyware, this free is equal to malwarebytes in detecting spyware and as not real time protection. zero-threat:this is different than original anti virus, anti virus first need to internalize then find virus, but zero threat software detects all suspicious moves. install threat fire. (you need anti virus for this to work) firewall protection: default firewall is not sufficient for protecting your pc. as your using windows xp, use comodo firewall which as sandbox technology. patching software: by patching software, you can prevent entering of hacker or other potential threats.....use psi to patch all your software's. this is not recommend one, if your using ie then you should use this software: spyware blaster: it gives extra security to ie, can only track cookies in firefox.

Hi yugasini. I'm at this time studying on the third year of computer electronics and every one in my course is using Avira has a free antivirus. If you want a paying version you could go with Norton, but in general there's no need for that.

hi equidna, thanks for the response, sorry for late reply, so you are recommending Avira antivirus ,most of the responses suggested about AVG,first i will install AVG,then i will check,if i find it is waste then i will go for other antivirus or paid antivirus, any how thanks for the response, have a nice day

the best one for me is kaspersky i have full version and its working great, but i wouldnt say its the best because there is always differnet kind of viruses wich neither of antivirus software can recognize, so you have to combine antivirus with some tools like malwarebytes to keep your pc clean from boring viruses--....

I used to have avast I didn't like it that much it seemed to slow my computers system a bit, I also tried avira good but seemed to stop working after a while even after updating it. my best advice is go to Cnet.com. its a website with a good amount of free open source antivirus software there tested safe and the site provides reviews from other users who have tried the software's But currently I went back to AVG because right now it seems like the best over all, but go to cnet and check out what they have to offer remember that they have free software's to download or you can try em before you buy.

Hi yugasini, how are you doing? :) I use Kaspersky, and I am satisfied with it. The thing about these viruses and malwares is ... they are created almost everyday, antivirus software behave like police. Obviously there will be more robbers than police. A few will get caught and pushed behind prison, a few will continue to rob somewhere. :) It is difficult to say which police department is good. Today one smart police officer who has experience in a particular type of crime may be able to get hold of some criminals, tomorrow, it would be another type of crime. So what we are basically getting is an antivirus that is updated...all are updated whether it is AVG or Kaspersky. We can never ever be 100 percent certain. These antivirus software people would try to improve their products each year otherwise they would go out of business, so we just have to believe in that logic and move on...

I agree with the posts above. But jut to be sure, use AVG WITH Malware-bytes anti-malware. From my experience it it the best protection you can get. But you need to "research" on how to make your FREE AVG into PRO, if you know what I mean . Same with Malware-bytes.
