Twelve Grumps of Christmas: Extreme Weather = Climate Change is a Myth

please get a grip conservative newspapers - you are not ten - weather proves nothing but extreme weather, constantly repeated, indicates a trend. i.e. the climate is changing and almost certainly because of careless human activity.

"a trend. i.e. the climate is changing....." Agreed...happens all the time on planet Earth. ".....and almost certainly because of careless human activity. " Not so much agreed on. Human civilization has been on earth for less than 0.0001%(not a made up number) of the time Earth has existed. To say this period of climate change is caused by humans when the tens of thousands of other climate change periods were not, is pure speculation and conjuncture. I can point to plenty of other scientists who agree with that notion. To say something is "settled science" requires broad concurrence and that is something we simply do not see. In fact, there are 5 times as many scientists who say it's nonsense as there are that believe climate change is anthropological. **Wanders off to carve lumps of coal in to carrot shape and paint them orange....

Well, if people can't blame people, then everything's pointless to talk about. If everyone only... Drove spaznoid midget circuit cars that got .2 miles per 9v battery charge, and lived in huts without luxuries Gave 90% of earnings to help fuel government so government could save the poor Killed evil with kindness instead of bullets Saw Michael Moore's latest movie And agreed only minorities got to keep religion Everything would be okay and we would be saved as a people.

the last time there was this much carbon in the atmosphere the world was a lot warmer, yet the sun was smaller. we have done this - time to accept we have made a mess basically.

Too many people, too much farting, that's my theory. Well maybe not really.

But the "too many people" part does spark some very difficult policy questions. There have been a few - such as Jonathan Poritt - who've come out and said that population growth is the underlying problem here. It stands to reason: more people use more stuff and burn more fuel. Problem is setting controls on people's capacity to reproduce is an even harder sell than telling people they can't drive their hummer anymore.

Instead of focusing on some snow storm maybe we should be focus on the disappearing North pole ice, which is producing the fable northwest passage. We could also focus on what is going on in Russia right now. No, we chose to focus on a snow storm that happens when it is suppose to be snowing, ridiculous.

you could but the point i was trying to make was why are yet more record cold spells meant to be proof that things are NOT changing?

I think the weather is consistently inconsistent. Climate change, possibly. I am not one to say it is not happening. I think it has happened for years. Do we need to straighten up and take care of our environment, yes we do. This is not just something we see in the winter, but we see it year around. I think the most that we know is that we do not really know much at all.

well climate scientists know more than we do, and the vast majority of them say the same thing.

I so agree! Careless human activity. Running these big cars with all the bells and whistles and the emmissions too. We are a nation of spoiled folk. All the water we use, and the power, and the debt the country is in and alot of people as well. Hope you have a nice holiday old friend.

Send some global warming my way. PLEASE. Usually here all the kids need in the winter is a light jacket. It stays in the 50s usually. The low tonight is suppost to be 24 and the high tomorrow is suppost to be 39. That is WAY cold for here. Last winter it was colder than usual too and we got snow one day which had not happened in like 10 years. They are already talking about snow again this year. Hope this trend ends. I HATE SNOW. I HATE cold weather. I moved this far south to get away from it. But it looks like it followed it...I say that is stalking..I think I should be able to get a restraining order for that. No weather colder than 50 is allowed no nearer than 3miles to me at anytime. Know a judge that would go along with that?

if/when the gulf stream cuts off here it will be even colder. i hate snow too - horrid cold white stuff - and am quite willing to cut my carbon footprint to make darn sure we don;t get more of the stuff.

The conservative newspapers and Fox News can't wait every year until we have the first "major" snow storm that makes news so they can go on and on about how it totally debunks the whole theory of "global warming". I wish the term "climate change" had been used more frequently years ago instead of "global warming" because that's the only thing the right and other deniers focus on. Ooh, it's cold somewhere, it snowed in the northeastern U.S. or the midwest or somewhere else where it snows all the time, so that proves the earth isn't getting warmer. Therefore, we're off the hook, we can drill, baby, drill wherever we wish to our hearts' content and continue to do everything we can to waste energy and cause more pollution - at least the followers of Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity will because that's actually what their idiotic "heroes" tell them to do just to somehow spite Al Gore! You're absolutely right, they're not ten; every ten year old I know is far more mature than they are. Annie

and a better understanding of science. and logic. i don't get why the conservative newspapers *here* bother with this one, they do not have connections (as far as i know) to the oil industry, [ok they probably do, thinking about it], most conservatives i know aren't in a state of denial about global warming and there certainly is no strong religious element in the moderate british right. actually there isn't much in the british far right either but who cares what they think.

yes, the climate is changing, In JA we got rain in October and May. These were the rainy months. The grounds would be prepared and we would plant to make sure the banana suckers took root. rainy old time - in fact it is raining right now. The hurricane season ends in November and two years ago we had a hurricane in December. We all thought that we had heard the weather forecast wrong but it came for true why people cannot except what is happening is a mystery to me.

because it doesn't suit them. i really wish they were right but this denial of the obvious (because the aforementioned newspapers etc told them to think it) is very, very unlikely to be right.

You are definitely right there. Global warming is not just about the temperatures getting hotter. It is about these changes flowing on to create other weather patterns which in turn create more different weather patterns. The whole world is connected. Methane from cows and other food producing animals, landfill and other sources as well as deforestation and a loss of the worlds topsoil can cause weather patterns to change in areas that seem far removed from the source! Climate change is real! The hottest ten years on record globally have occurred in the last 12 years!

yep. i still can't get why record snow (combined with record heat, record droughts, record floods) in any way constitutes proof that climate change can't possibly be happening. hate to say it but the logic here is very simplistic.
