I am dreaming of a wet Christmas just like the ones we never had. The treetops glisten and children listen to hear towtrucks in the rain. In all the years I have lived in Southern Californis we have' neve had this much rain in this long a period. Is this indictative of global warming? YOUr take please. cold wet and dismal out.no sunshine at all. ugh.

I was blown away when I was all of the pictures and videos of the rain there on the news this evening. I mean here in Texas we will be in one of those Rainy summer patterns here in Texas and get a lot of rain but then I see this and its a whole different level of A LOT! Hope everything stays safe for you this holiday and that no one you know or yourself gets flooded!

okay once more lost my comment. I am staying dry but when out in this Sunday to do my Christmas shopping. all the time we were out it had stopped raining but when we got back it was like a cloud burst, A nice young lady with a huge u mbrella rushed over to me and led me dry to the front door. lovely, like Christmas should be. My friend nelda an I took my stash up to my room so she could catch her breath. she emailed me this morning and said her son had driven to work as it was just awful on the freeways and her sight is not so good, she has some retinopathy in her eyes. We are both diabetics.

I think rain is great when it comes occasionally and not very often. We have rains only during the month of June and July heavily. This time it started to rain early in the months of April and May.

I don't know about southern California but northern California always got rain during fall and winter seasons, this year, overall, it seems to be less, with not as drastic cold temperatures. Remember, global warming is about trends over a number of years, not just one extreme event.

Hi Hatley, According to the song, it NEVER rains in California. I live in New England and here the weather is so unpredictable that it is really hard to tell if it could have anything to do with global warming or not. Could be.

With the smog in your area how do you really know if you have sunshine or not. We get inversion that comes in in the winter and lasts for days and days. It is dismal, ugly out and when it breaks it is like we are on another planet or something. I think what your are experiencing in your area is probably indicative of global warming.

hi celticeagel where I am here we are just far enough away from Los Angeles and the horrid smog an close enough to the Pacific ocena we get ocen breezes that keep that smog away.also there is really little to none industry here with plants spewinvg out that black crap.Yes I feat that this was indicitive of global warming. No we do really get sunshine here because thanfully we are far enough away fromn L.A. the towns in close are al ways so grey and dismal. we went to the city of Industry one year when my hubby was still alive.he was looking for a job and that city has a lotg of plants there and the sky was grey and stinky with chemical odors in it. I hated that. I would never live that c lose tol L.a Here we get the benefit of wind coming off the oc ean and that helps to key our air cleaner here.

hi celticEagle I so long to go down to the beach and once my knee is healed so I am pain free maybe i willspend a whole dollar and a half for an all day senior pass to walk along the ocean and just smell that salty air and relax. ending up of course at Charlie's chili he makes the best chili anywhere. Oh its been a long time but' I loved traveling through the Redwoods.

It sounds like a nice place to live. I would like the ocean breezes instead of the Spring and Fall breezes we get here. Brrr! Having the ocean near by would be nice too. I enjoyed times spent by the ocean. We went to a place near the Redwoods that had the pines coming right down to the beach. It was lovely. And I have been to the San Juan Islands that were lovely too. WOuld love to do some more traveling at some point.

hi fwidman I have not seen my son now for a week and a half. He takes the bus to come here then rides on his bike the rest of the way. I know its because of the rains as you cannot hold an umbrella and ride a bike. I have been staying in and dry after my adcenture sunday when my friend Nelda took me Christmas shopping. I t did not rain until we got into the store then coming out it was pouring like a cloud burst. I got out ot her car and here come a really sweet young Asian woman with a huge umbrella and she walked me the front door, so kind an d what Christmas is all about. lol

Hi Hatley, if you were to be in my place surely you would materialize your sweet dream to have a wet Christmas here. Yeah, all those fantastic which you desire to occur mentioned above would appear right before you by the time Here, from the beginning of Dec we are so happy to experience the soothing coolness from the drizzle or heavy rain or shower almost everyday. From your description, I believe the situation of having less rain in your region is mostly probably an indicative of global warming. I learn from the news as well as articles saying that certain places encounter severe snowstorm which have ruined construction, crop, etc. And such dreadful phenomenon haven't occurred before. Hope that everyone would aware of the global warming and be more friendly to our environment in order to save our precious and beautiful planet Take care and have a nice day

It's so true that our planet would remaind healthy and forever if everyone has great consciousness to love and to take care of our environment. I hate to see developers as well as the authorities concenred in my place simply fell countless of trees to make big money and never plan nicely to replace with new plants. I saw many big trees were felled when I was on my way to visit my friend. The road was no longer shady and cool like before. It's really a shame that they didn't realize how difficult and how much time had taken to grow such a big and vigorous green tree. I don't know what project would be carried on along the roadside. I pity the litte creatures like birds, insect, etc have lost their comfortable habbitat. Today is 22rn Dec here. It's still a few days to go before Christmas. I hope you would get all your items ready to welcome the great winter festival. I wish you and your loving son as well as your friends to have a happy Christmas

hi lkbooi yes we all could do so much to stop global warming if we would all work together on it. this long spell is one rainstorm per day rolling in and dumping tons of water so unlike other years when we had almost none. at least we will not be quite as likely to have those dreaded wild fires and their distruction as we have had. I did get my Christmas Shopping done and we got back just as another cloud'bu rst opened up.

Nope, it never rains in California. And it certainly never floods in California either! Yeah, right! LOL I've lived in California all my life. Okay, so I've lived in the Northern part, but still. So I know that it really does rain here. And this past week it's been crazy with rain! There are new ponds of water everywhere and some roads are even closed due to some flooding. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with global warming. Though it's definitely a possibility. Happy mylotting and Happy New Year!

We never, ever see rain on Christmas Day! Traditionally the 25th of December is very, very hot whereas New Year’s Eve is generally a lot cooler. I don’t why that is but it’s been like that for years and 2010 is no different so far because Christmas Day was a whopping 38 degrees Celsius and I wonder if New Year will break the tradition! Did you get your wet Christmas?

California sun - We think of sun, not rain when we mention the word California.
We all have to admit that the weather has been very weird the past month. I am beginning to wonder why as well. It very well cold be global warming. I believe it. When we think of California, we think of sun, heat and beaches....not rainy cool weather. Sunny skies ahead.

When I was a kid, it used to rain pretty good out here . . . but then for many years it was actually kinda warm and dry during what was supposed to be winter. Yep, this year is a wet once for sure!! We are all saying how we haven't seen this much rain in soooooooo long . . . some welcome it (like me) and others hate it. Since we don't get snow, this is as close to "it" as we're going to get - ok, it's not a white winter, but a wet one (different from the boiling hot/dry scene we get during summer - I really dread that). Global warming? I'm no scientist, so I couldn't really say . . . but something strange is going on across the earth. Happy holidays - and hope you stay warm and dry!!

Well, Hatley, it was pretty beautiful out yesterday, wouldn't you say? And today looks like another one!! I did look at the myLot weather coverage - it says it's going to rain over the weekend - but I thought everyone else said it was going to be sunny during Christmas. But as they say about our weather - WHO KNOWS! It has a mind of its own, I'm sure. All this wetness (and dryness) do make our conditions scary. Merry Christmas to you . . . see you in the new year!

It was raining here too Hatley, but I'm not complaining! I know that Christmas would be more beautiful if it were a white Christmas, but knowing what snow entails with everyday life, I'd rather have rain anytime. If this is a sign of global warming, I don't know. But I heard that the east coast and some parts of Europe have been battered by snow, so I really don't know.

I like a warmer climate, Christmas turned out to be cold but really sunny and to day was the same.although weather forecasters are calling for more rain but say it will not be as severe. this past storm flooded streets and in the bu rned areas we had bad mudslides with people losing their homes.

Hi dear, Even in India, where I live also had an unusual rainfall till end of November, which is not supposed to have. Also, after a long period of time, in this December month we have more of cold. I think this much cold was not within 10 years and this year is totally a different climate. May be as you said, of global warming. Whatever it is, I thin, the climate cycle which is conventionally followed is slightly moving ahead and after some more years, the cyclical season changes may vary to the next one or two months ahead. Let's see what all we can see for the coming years due to various changes in the world. Thank-s

Hi dear, Hope you all enjoyed the Christmas. What about the climate now? Pleasing ? As it is climate, we cannot expect anything. Due to weather change, the predictions also can go wrong. However, we can expect a favourble climate would help for the rest of days and which may make more pleasing days and good preparations for the New Year. The timing in the climate change has changed everywhere now. I think we need to take precautions to accept the change in the climate periodically. Thanks for your comments. I heard about all that rain and thought of you enjoying the sun the other day--you have my sympathies! And all that rain will probably come here in the form of snow. It's not global warming, there's no such thing and they admitted as much. We've had some weird weather, though, due to things like the Pineapple Express, El Nino and the rest of the jet stream brats, high and low pressure areas, etc. Be happy with your rain, Hatley. We had freezing drizzle this morning and will have snow later. Of course, I'll be staying off the roads!

hi dragon Christmas day was pretty and sunny, but it did rain again late at night. HOwever today is cool but sunny and no rain yet although more was forecast. At least it did not snow here. all over the various towns here the streets were flooded and basements were flooded. the folks'in the fall wild fire areas have lost homes due to mud slides too. why anyone would build on a sloping hillside with unstable earth under them?they have to know that unstable ground when wet will slip and slip it did. the mud filled the homes through any opening then with mud inside and heavy mud and boulders slipping down behind the mud filled houses they simply pushed the homes down the sliding hillside out onto solid ground. nothing could be ssaved at all.total losses in most cases. the trees and shrubbery that had held the dirt were gone, just unstable mud.

It is similar here too Hatley. At this time of year we are usually sweating as the weather is usually hot and humid. If it rains it is usually with an afternoon storm after a hot sunny day. Twice in the last week I have been wearing jeans. I never wear jeans at this time of year. Usually it is far too hot for them. It has been raining all day so much recently and is forecast for the remainder of the week as well including Christmas day!

Hi Hatley, I saw from the news that somewhere in California, houses were swipe away by the heavy downpour and flooded the residential area. I just hope that you are not in that area. For me, rain is fine as long as it do not turn into disaster. This few years the weather became uncertain and strange in many places and some places having heavy rain and ironically some places having serious drought. I just wonder how long will this happen, will it be more serious in next year? Only God knows.

yspmyl No they were about thirty five miles away. the hillside homes were in the forest fire areas of last falls horrid fires. the shrubbery and trees that wo uld have held the hillsides intact were gone and the earth was oversaturated with rain so mud slide down filled the homes up then just slid on down the hillsie w ith heavy boulders in the mudadding weight to the mud and the homes slid right on down onto solidground. they were destroyed completely. Here where I am we are on flat stable land. this weather has certainly been bizzare.
