In our life we want to make it better, eligant and easy, nobody wants a life full of struggle or sacrifices. So we are thinking a right way how to achieve such wants and dreams. There are many things needed to our life as basic necessities, means required because of this and this. How about house? Yes as family we don't want live in a rental appartment, means necessity. How about car? Is it necessity or luxury? Why We know car or family are very famous now, but it is needed or there is other priority before that.. Your answers should be with explanation. see you around

Where my family lives, having at least one car is a necessity. There is hardly any public transportation available in my city. All of the nearby grocery stores are outside of reasonable walking distance, especially if you happen to have a small child to take with you. I'm not sure what my family would do without a vehicle. My husband needs reliable transportation to get him to and from work. Without that, we wouldn't have a place to live or food to eat.

Well here in Calgary it's a necessity because there's poor public transportation and Calgary is large and flat where people travel everywhere. In like Tokyo everything is up and you have everything you need in your building.

Cars are identified with status and so it is considered luxury in many countries. But some people need a car badly according to their work nature. A boss or an employee who has to travel a lot within the city limit daily will feel better with a car than a bike and it can be understandable. But it is really luxury, if you want to have more than one car or change the one frequently in the name of updating fashion.

It depends on the user and how will he gonna use it. If the user buys a car just to make an impression to his friends then it is a luxury. But on other hand, if the user will use it on purpose then it is a necessity.

In some situations cars are a neccesity for instanse if you live in an area with mo public transportation or work in an area with no public transportation. I have been in that situation in the past, I had to turn down a job offer because I didn't have a car and there were no other ways to get to the village where the job was. In some situations we are able to go by bike or walk if there is no public tranportation and we don't have a car, but it depends on the distanse, and in some situations a car is not a luxury, it is the only option. Right now I live in a village in the countryside. I would be possible to live here without a car, but it would be very difficult, because there are few busses.

I used to see a car as a luxury item. More and more it has become a necessity to me. The more things I have to do and the more places I have to go make having a car such a necessity. Being without one would make things much difficult to accomplish.

i think necessity because both of them are use with the same function. to have a speed access to your destination but if you want a faster and smooth driving then by the luxury cars, although it is cost about millions and millions. if ever i have lots of money, i'll go and buy the luxury cars.. by the way, what is the most expensive car? and how much does it cost?

I see ownership of a car, or families with several cars, not being necessary in many cases but not necessarily a luxury either. If you can afford it it's not really a luxury in ordinary cases, it's a means to an end. A car is a luxury when you have a chauffeur to drive you everywhere I reckon. It is also a luxury when public transport in a crowded city is readily available. I live in a small village far from anything. Without a car I would be isolated and not able to purchase provisions for myself or visit the doctor. This is the basics of what I use my car for personally. There are elderly people living here so I have become a volunteer driver and carry those who are unable to do so to doctor appointments, shopping and other necessary trips and so of course, my car comes in handy for me to do that. It is certainly no luxury but an absolute necessity on a couple of fronts.

I think that it really depends on the user and his or her situation. For some, it might be a necessity, while for others it might be more of a luxury than anything else. The needs of the user will really come into factor. I think that this might determine as to whether it's a necessity or luxury.

According to me all those private vehicles are the luxury ones. And all the private vehicles which are running by petrol or diesel causes the atmospheric pollution. If we ban all those private vehicles then there will be no traffic jam.

In the past, cars used to be a luxury and it's only for the rich or the above average classed people. Now, cars are more of a necessity as we need to go to places which are far and taking public transport is very troublesome. Cars are indeed convenient and with them, we don't need to worry about being late unless there's a traffic jam. As for luxury, it's maybe just two or more cars for one family which makes them rich.

Life is too hard already with all the responsibilities. Getting a car to make it a little easier won't hurt. I guess it only becomes a luxury when someone buys a very expensive car when he knows he can buy another one cheaper than what he has. Cars aren't luxurious in it's whole sense. They're invented for transportation mainly. As i've said, it only becomes a luxury if the whole motive of buying a car is just to show it off when you can buy a much cheaper, simpler looking one.

In these days of traffic and busy days, having a car is surely a necessity. The time spent in commuting or waiting for a ride, or getting stranded by traffic will surely save us a lot of time and money if we have our own car.

As far as my situation is concerned, any car would be a luxury. I live alone in a small town where the shops are too far away for me to walk. There is no public transport, and everyone goes everywhere in cars. Even though I am very poor, I am forced to phone for a taxi to go anywhere. I shall no doubt always be poor, despite my best endeavours, and therefore will be car-less for the rest of my life. I have no friends, some relatives who are not interested in me, so no-one is avaiable to give me lifts into town.

Nice discussion. We all humans are behind two things. One needs or necessities and another Wish --which converts into demands.Car basically a luxury or you may call status symbol. But if for your job(business/service)it helps for promotion of job and at the same time your workplace/native don't have sufficient transport facilities, then car is necessity. So it depends .

Are you studying to be a teacher? LOL I think its a necessity, but the type of car you get could be the luxury. Most cars have a base model and then things like radios and air conditioning are extras. So you could make that necessity a luxury. Where I live there is no public transportation, no buses and to get a taxi is costly becuase we are outside the city. We are too far to walk to any necessary place like school, work or the grocery store. So for us a car is a necessity if we want to keep our luxuries. Great question!

I live in an area that has great transit, so I can get around the whole city in fairly short times... really not that different from having a car. I would like it if public transportation was available to everyone, just as good, if not better, then how I have it... but there are a lot of car companies that don't want that... same with oil and gas companies, same with insurance companies... there is so much industry in the US that makes it's money off of private transportation. There are way better ways to get around... but I doubt that it'll really take off...

Car is not my neccessity, if yes, then it must be somebody else. I live in a place, where cars are everywhere. The sky are grey not blue due to air pollution. I don't know why people buy many cars as a kind of luxury, it is a waste of money right? If I have money, I'll buy many things that is important than cars, for example, a house. I will not show off to tell how much I earn, when I buy a car, it really help transport me to some places.

I get by without a car, but then live near the centre of a large conurbation. If I lived in a rural community a car would be a necessity.

I think in certain areas it's a necessity. But if you live downtown it's not necessary at all because it's much better and usually faster to just use public transportation. However, if you are stuck out in the suburbs like I am it's quite necessary to get a car. I couldn't really find a job because I didn't have a car so I could only apply to places that were within a 2 mile radius. I don't have a car right now. I don't plan on buying one until I have a job that necessitates it, which will likely be after I graduate. I am not looking forward to it because I personally hate driving, and I am not looking forward to car maintenance. Half of my siblings have a car and the other half do not. I wonder where I will stand in a year's time.
