Well, with the convenience of our advanced technology, we are gradually getting rid of paper statement from our bank account, and even paper works. That might a be a truth for our check book too. Would you ever imagine someday our checkbook is no longer existed. Because many of us is undergoing online bill pay, or pay directly from our checking account. Money can be taking another form of electronic signal, as long as we recognize it as part of our monetary system. I heard from news, until 2018, Great Britain will abolish the use of checkbooks. So, people might simply use the 16 digits number, or simply everything done it online transaction.

Yep. Pretty sure it will. I imagine it'll hang around for a few good years and then one day our child's child will see the check as an ancient artifact from the stone age.

In the present trend writing of checkbook will continue even after 2018 since change to online banking by all may not be quick.

I'd say that checks are already obsolete. Most places won't even take them any more and there are only like one or two places still producing checks. I have heard, and it makes a lot of sense, that cash will become obsolete, perhaps even in our lifetime. They want to be able to track what we buy; not have to spend money on the manufacturing of coins and bills; and not have it so easily stolen as with checks.

I think so, last time I signed a cheque was to give some money to builder for flat booking. I think that online banking is in trend and everyone will adopt to the same culture, most of us are doing so.

I don't think writing a check will become obsolete in the future. We use it to pay in a staggered manner for a huge debt we owed a lending corporation or somebody. We can issue several postdated checks to insure our regular payment. Writing of postdated checks is an assurance for the lendor that he will be paid regularly by the borrower even if he will not be physically present . It ties the borrower to the lendor that he will make good of a promise to pay, because he is afraid that he might be sued if those checks will bounce. Whereas those credit cards would mean an outright payment of something purchased. No one will lend you money personally if you pay by credit cards because a credit card could be suspended anytime and has a limit.
