Bah hum-shoulder!

So I got off my duff and went to the doc about my elbow that's been bothering me for months. And the doc sent me to physical therapy. And the therapist said I had some lovely thing called "frozen shoulder", and proceeded to yank my arm around all over the place and torture me, and then send me home with exercises, instructions, and appointments for more torture. Damn this hurts. Has anybody ever had frozen shoulder before? The good news is, I might actually be able to hook my own bra in back some time in the next year. Bah...

That must be awfully painful more so since it stays with you all day long for a long ti,e and comes in between you and your independence. Seriously, follow the instructions and go slow with the exercise. Overdoing might be more painful.

Yes, overdoing could make it worse, but so will not using it.

Hiya dawn, Just to say that there are bras that you can slip over your head till you can get the movement back again. Sports Bras can be very expensive but there are bras around that have no clasps or anything on them. It was a nightmare trying to fasten mine from the back and here I could not find one that fastens at the front so I opted for the one the Lady in the Shop showed me bless her little cotton socks. I still wear them as I can´t be bothered to fiddle around with the others. Also I am now able to put my injured arm right behind my back again and touch the other shoulder blade.

For now I am fastening my bra in front and then turning it around. Works for me so far... It's harder to find a lot of choice in bras when you're DD, but I'll have a look around.

Hiya dawn, I tried that too but it kept coming undone again for some reason. It never happened when my Shoulder was normal. What is DD, by the way? You look around you will find a solution I think you will. I also found running more hotter water for a few minutes on the most painful area worked for a while too. However I got dressed very quickly after and kept massaging the upper part of the arm very gently it does do something but only over time.

I have not heard of frozen shoulder, let alone have I ever experienced it. If it is frozen, why not take a hot shower to thaw it out? For any consolation, I have 2 friends who have terrible pain in their shoulders and arms. One has to have surgery sometime in February, and the other has to go through torturous exercises in the hopes a nerve on her spine that is affecting her shoulder goes back into place so she can avoid a surgery. I hope you are well very soon. I hate pain, and I hate to see others in pain.

Actually they recommended ice to reduce the inflammation in the shoulder. Apparently, I hurt it, and then I started avoiding the movements that were hurting, and that caused the shoulder to lock up. So anyway I have to exercise and do therapy and put gel on it and ice it and a whole bunch of stuff. Hopefully it won't come to surgery.

AT night take some calcium with magnesium and zinc. Calcium is a natural muscle relaxer! It helps me sleep very well and does help to loosen the muscles. I feel wonderfully well rested and muscles are not tight whenever I take it. The magnesium and zinc helps get the calcium to your body. I hope you will not have to have surgery.

Sorry, Dawn, you're having so much pain and hopefully the therapy works. I'd never heard of frozen shoulder. Did they say what might have caused it? Anyway, wishing you the best in your therapy. Therapy is a pain, but in the end, it's always worked for me.

Probably a combination of not using the arm last year when I had tendonitis, computer work and/or falling on it (though that was after the problem started).

They said that the pain in the elbow was caused by the shoulder. I did have tendonitis a year ago, and that may have been a contributing factor, since the arm hurt like crazy and so I avoided using it.

I forgot to mention this before. You said your elbow was giving you trouble and that's why you went to see the dr. Then they diagnosed frozen shoulder. Did they say anything about the elbow? Or do they think the elbow will heal itself when the shoulder gets fixed? I've had three surgeries on my elbows for tendonitis (golf). Computer work sure as heck didn't help before, during or after, though. Thankfully, I don't have any trouble with my elbows anymore, but I still can't golf worth a da*n.

Luckily and thankfully no, but a co-worker of mine had that in the past, and to be honest with you he still has it, not as bad as before, but the pain is sometimes still there depending also on the weather. He went to therapy for a few months, but like you said, he also claimed the pain was unbearable and sometimes instead of making it feel better, it just irritated the pain more. So eventually he stopped going to that particular therapist after a few months. Actually just the other day, he came by the office and started complaining again about the pain, which has been gradually increasing again within the past week, and he is currently going to another therapist, he said he wouldn't go back to the other and so far it's been going good for what I heard. I guess really all depends on the treatment the therapist give, I personally believe that some are to rough.

The therapist that I saw did say that too much movement could make it worse, but no movement will also make it worse. Seems to be a combination of therapy, exercise, ice, heat, gel (for pain) and a few other things that help it.

be very careful o f this therapy. After my cancer operation I lost movement in my arms lefting them up was hard to do DOc thought I should be getting more back so ordered home nurse to come in and strech me and theyn on to threapy for shoulder got to hurting from the streching. One day after the therapy I almost passed out from the streching they did. So I told then I wasnt coming back for what happened the lst time I was there told them this was plain torture since the home nurse streched me and was getting worse well had to do an MRI on shoulder they found that my rotor cuff was torn hmm so sent me to more therapy diffenert style and exercises which didnt work. I stopped going did my own thing and it got well. BUt if you feel GREAT pain when they strech your arm over your head and they put the pressure on make sure they havent tore your rotor cuff

It hurts like hell when they do it, but I feel better afterward. But if therapy doesn't help, the doc is going to send me for an MRI.

Not last year, but the year before, or was it the year before that... anyway, I hadn't had to lift my left arm to put up my hair all winter and when I tried to do so, I couldn't do it. I went to the doc, and he gave me a referral, but instead I just lifted my arm up (with the other arm) propped it up on the door frame and did my hair until I could do it without lifting and propping! I've been careful to not let my shoulder get that stiff this year, even tho I did get my annual, fall hair cut!

There is a yoga stanse you can do that helps lumber up that portion of back and shoulder. Yoga is great. I bet it would help you and wouldn't be so agonizing.

I do feel better after I do yoga, but I can't say for sure that that is enough to solve the problem, so I'm doing the exercises that the PT gave me that are specifically for this problem.

My that sounds like a pleasant vist. I ahve never had a frozen shoulder. Sounds like a dislocated one to me..I mean that is what they do for a dislocation. On the brighter side..pinning your bra in the back is a plus..they do have some very nice front pinning versions too though.

If it was dislocated, they'd pop it back in, and I'd do ice until the swelling went down. This isn't dislocated, it's just inflamed and I cant' move it certain ways.

Just like the physician - your elbow hurts so you must have frozen shoulder! lol! just sounds funny. I hope the exercises help. I have an injured thumb but I'm not planning on going to the dr anytime soon... it'll just have to hurt!

That does sound funny. I had no idea it was the shoulder until the doc started moving it around and determined that i had lost a lot of motion in my shoulder. The PT said the pain in the elbow was actually coming from the shoulder.

Hiya dawn, That was another time I could have said "Ouch" as when any of these tried to touch my Shoulder I would wince even with the slightest brush of anything. The liniment really did work and I applied heat a lot too. Hot towels and Hot Water Bottles wrapped in a Kitchen towel and placed over my Jumper or whatever and holding it there for ages. Then I tried to do movements and I would shriek it was that bad. But I did persist and that is what is most important. You can recover it and you don´t have to be stuck with it. Good luck with it hang in there dawn.

Hiya dawn, Yep I know that it hurts like mad but the pain will gradually subside. I did not take one pain killer only used Sloane´s Liniment and moving the Shoulder little by little every Day. I also had some sleepless nights as every time I moved it really hurt. So my back really ached next Day trying to sleep in one bad position all night. Moral of the story I am not overloading myself with anything too heavy for me again ever for anyone.

Hiya dawn, Had something like that last year and it hurt like mad. With exercise and plenty of Sloane´s Liniment at the start of it a few times a week not sleeping on your "bad" shoulder it does eventually where off. Yes I can fasten that back up to again but it does take a very long time about ten months altogether. Lesson no more carrying really heavy things around without using your other hand for support and so on. If you have to carry heavy things not too many at a time either. I can reach my left arm behind now right up my back woohoo but it really did hurt so much last year. Hope it gets better soon dawn.

Hiya Alice, Love it thanks for the typo alert. Last thing we need are amputations you´re right about that too. Sloane´s Liniment has come to my rescue not only for Shoulder problems but back Problems too. Did it work for your Dad then. Some People don´t recover altogether from the Injury as it takes such a long time to heal we sleep on that poor old shoulder every night and it takes some beating does´nt it?

Hopefuly you don't have surgery, I leep my fingers crossed for you! You should search for non-traditional ways of treatment. A friend of mine had a nasty discal hernia near the neck and she found a guy who heped her without any surgery.

They said ice. I know it will help with the inflammation, but heat should also help with the tight muscles around the shoulder.

Nope, not the same thing. There is inflammation in the shoulder, so it doesn't move every way that it normally would.

My own frozen shoulder endsd in surgery and so did my sister´s. My theory is that computer is the main cause for it and for other ailmentas thant people did not have before. I hope you caught it on time. Try to use the computer a little bit less.

I'm sure the computer is a contributing factor, also all the darn conference calls. I did get off my rear this morning and hook up the hand's free device for my phone. Maybe that will help a little too...
