Anyone find they have a lot of time on their hands? I imagine mothers who have kids snowed in from school wish their kids had more to do today. It must be hard keeping them busy. Around here all the schools are closed. But it's too cold for the kids to go outside and play. So I'm thinking about the poor parents who are stuck inside with children who want nothing more than to get out and build a snowman! I woke up yesterday and knew it had stormed. But I looked over and in two places on my "patio" door, there was an inch of snow inside on my carpet. And I'm on the TOP floor. The snow had blown inside my apartment. I knew there was a gap because when I saw on the floor in my living room it was freezing cold. But until I saw the snow on the carpet, I didn't know how much of a gap it was. Across the state some got a foot of snow, while others got several feet. I got a little over a foot, but with a lot of wind to blind you if you want to go anywhere. The mail didn't come yesterday, and it probably won't today, so my apartment complex is going to just have to wait for all of us to pay our rent. I don't think they care since they didn't come to work. I doubt they'll mind since no one got their checks on the first, and they won't today, on the second. Plus, even if they have direct deposit for their money, they have to pay the rent in person, and no one has been at the office. What are you guys doing? Thankfully, my electricity only went off once, and it was for a very short time.

I am glad to hear that your electricity came back on. We just missed the bad storms here. Hope you all get your check soon so you can pay your rent. We are getting a few flurries here but that is about it. It is just now starting to stick to the ground also. I am going to work online today. It is too cold and windy to go outside.

I haven't seen you around lately. Maybe I just haven't been in the discussions you have been in. Have you been gone?

Right now, the situation where I live is not nearly as bad as yours, but we've had some rough times this winter, and it's not over yet. A couple of weeks ago I found myself at home, and the electricity went off, and, just like you, I had too much time on my hands and no idea what to do. My life at home revolves around the computer and the TV set, I was lost without them. So I started on a long overdue project of cleaning up a storage room in the house. Unfortunately, the electricity came back on in a couple of hours, which wasn't nearly enough time to scratch the surface of the junk deposited in there, and I haven't made any attempts to resume the work ever since. Maybe during the next blackout / snow storm I'll manage to do some cleaning

The idea that there's enough of a gap in your patio doors to let snow in during those kind of weather conditions just gave me a shiver reading that! In January,we had temperatures here down to the minus teens (degrees celsius)-I use bottled propane for my stove and the tank is outside-I thought my gas was running out until the thaw came, and it's back to working fine again now a couple of weeks later..I didn't know freezing temperatures affected gas! I didn't have the central heating off for days while it lasted, and I was still at risk of getting frozen water pipes...thankfully,there was no problem here with the electricity..it would have been bad without that..I could cope without power longer than I could without water or having busted pipes. There was rumour the cold conditions were to make a return now in February..It felt cool outside last night, and the weather report predicted maybe some sleet or snow on high ground..I hope they're wrong!

It sounds incredible. I have never faced conditions the way you have described ever in my life. I am happy that your electricity was only interrupted for a short time. I was praying that it would not be cut off. I was scared that you would be alone in the cold without help. That would have been dreadful. Any chance that the weather will improve? I don't want to rub salt in the would but out here the sun is shining with a slight breeze. About 80 degrees or a little more. Am just teasing Keep warm and safe.

Oh gosh did I ever, as along with the four feet of snow our home was down with no internet for 9 days. So my home is spotless and I was so bored out of my wits. As I do online assignments that I cold not get to. With all the snow and frigid weather there was no way to get the car out of the parking space and most businesses were also closed.

The worst is over here. The sun is shining. We have continued to have power, none of it has gone out. Gas heat, electric blower. Our cold water to the washing machine is frozen, but that is all. It is chilly here, even in my house, but it is old and drafty. It is below zero of course. Many things are closed and it seems that as many people who can stay inside.

At least you got snow, we only got and and my son isn't too interested in making an iceman.. I don't know what to do with my 2 boys, I know they are starting to get cabin fever, so I guess I'll search online for something for them to do. Our mail did come yesterday and probably will today, I think the only time it doesn't is if the snow is too deep, like a good foot or more. Our electricity went out last night at 8:40, and soon we were getting cold, so my husband decided to do what he was going to do today, and picked up some kerosene. Except my the time he got back, we were all in bed, and the electric came back on right before 1:00 AM. In my post where I talk about this, I said 2:30, but my oldest son said he was up, and that it came on earlier.. We are fortunate, there is still 50,000 without power right now..

hi AmbiePam oh it never snows in California in the wintre time'to paraphrase an old song about Indiana. We have had colder than usual nights and early morning but it goes up to 65 or 70 most days here in Southern California but these cold nights and mornings get to me as our houses and building are seldom insulated. So now the rains stopped we are having lovely weather here Hope your weather warms up a bit and you have no more power outages I always dread that as it means once the electricity is back on I will be knocked of the internet and have to reset modem and router too. we do not have many power outages only if we have a wind storm or a mild to moderater earth tremow here.I am mylotting this morning and shopping this afternoon. lol lol

i remember when mine was out at times in ohio when they were little. nearly drove me bats at times but my 2 daughters played together and the middle son even played pretend things or watched tv with them. kids have more to keep them busy these days and yet they say they are bored more then back when mine just had tv and books and board games. its a shame. mostly i played board games with my oldest from the time he was 7 and 8yrs on. he loved games just like me. i sometimes think thats what made him learn so well and made him so intelligent. the others didnt like to play because they couldnt handle it if they lost and ended up mad at everyone.not snowy here altho its quite cold. we just watching tv and on pc. such is the life in az. like i said its the only time i like az.

I wish I had too much time on my hands! I'm still not done with my school work for the week, which I usually am done with by now for the most part. I also have work work to do at home. I have all those stupid training videos I need to watch because the computer at work is too slow to get through them, so they want me to do them at home. Each video is around half an hour long, and I have no idea how many more I need to get through! That's on top of my usual chores around the house and online. Plus, my youngest son has a doctor's appointment today at 3 and then I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning, and hubby wants to go look at a car tomorrow afternoon. Friday half of my day will be spent shopping and getting some bills paid, then I'm working that night. Also our taxes should be here on Friday so that means we'll have a lot of running around to do in the next week, getting bills paid, buying me a new car and getting it on the road, all that fun stuff.

We have a dusting of snow; some of it's blown up against the fence, wall, etc. and created baby snowdrifts. But they've delayed school and some work places, so we'll see what it's like in a few hours. Most of all it's just plain cold and very windy. I won't be going out today... And since I did all my deep cleaning last week, I just don't feel like cleaning. I'm sure I'll find something to do. Maybe I'll even go back to bed; it's only 7;30... I let the dogs out this morning and they did their thing and wanted right back in. It was too cold for them too.
