So yesterday Dearra did her presentation in language arts (what they used to call English). She had intended to just do it in front of the teacher and a friend, but she got up her courage and did it in front of the class. She thinks she did pretty well. Hooray Dearra! So we went out to dinner, nothing exciting, IHOP, and the topic of Lady Gaga came up. And I sang "rah rah lost my bra", and Dearra put her head down on the table and told me I was embarrassing. Later she spilled her water all over the table, mostly ice cubes, actually. So I asked her which was more embarrassing. Later, when we were walking out, she said, "geez mom there was somebody from my science class at the next table." And then I went home and got online, and there was an e-mail from my sister reminding me that the Jeopardy online test was going to start at 8, and there was still time to register. I had already registered actually, but I needed to download a plug in. So I did that, and then took the test. I've mentioned before that I tried out for Jeopardy and didn't make it. Also that my mom had been on the show. Well I regret to inform you that you will not be seeing either me or Wendy on Jeopardy any time soon. Those questions are HARD. But we did both get the one about Lady Gaga. :D

I don't know who embarasses who the most, me embarassing my mom or her, me. I think we take turns. Sorry, you didn't get on Jeopardy... There's no way I'd even try out. I just don't keep up with current stuff (celebrities, music, etc.) and I've forgotten all the old stuff, if I ever learned it. You going to try again? I'd have a better chance, even with my "no luck", on a show like Deal/No Deal.

What I need to do next time is have one of us do the typing and the other stand behind and provide answers. :D But seriously, I may try out again. I will need to study up on a few things though. And popular culture is one of the things that might do me in...

Well, if you do try out, I wish you the best. And if you do get on, you'll have to tell us when it airs (I normally don't watch it...). And if you win, do you share much?

You are one silly woman! I wish my mom could have tried out for Jeopardy. She was very wit and smart and she had a thing for Alex. I think it would have been one of the highlights of her life. She never did try out. Had the social anxiety like me too so they probably would have had to wheel her in and out. Heehee. Sorry you didn't make it. Maybe next time. Can congrats to Dearra.

I've read everything including the responses and comments (very unusual for me, if you are wondering, I tend to read the main discussion, then write a response first, then skimp around the other responses) The thing that struck me is, and I quote,'language arts (what they used to call English)' Amazing how things changed. I thought I keep up with the changing world, seeing that I am not that old and all.....I am realising everyday that I am far from keeping with the changes. My daughter is learning how to write, in a completely different way from the way we used to (not that I remember that far back, just what I remember how it was taught when we were kids). Forget about Current Affairs and Celebrity stuff, I can't remember what I had for lunch.

I tend to do that too, though there are some discussions where I want to read the responses first. Yep, language arts, physical science, life science, etc. It's a new world...

yeah they still call it math. I should suggest "numerical science". Maybe not....

It is indeed a new world. Language art, indeed...what do they call Mathematics these days? Do they still call it Maths or is there a different name now?

After a certain age it seems that looking at them embarrasses them. LOL.. Shucks sorry about you not being a contestant on Jeopardy as I am sure it has to be a bit hard, especially while on the show when under pressure to get the answer right. I was so looking forward to seeing you on TV.. LOL

50 questions, 15 seconds to type in each answer. Some of them were quite hard...

From what I see on the show I see they can be hard so 15 seconds gosh that would be way too hard for me, and actually harder then being under pressure on the show. Whoa.

I read a lot of the responses. I think there are lots of different names for math, but not very many of them are "Math" My kiddos took Algebra I and II, and Geometry, and Calculus. There is also "Consumer Math" or something like that. I think they should all take "Practical Math" cannot balance a checkbook with Calculus. Thanks for keeping us up on the family activities. What was Dearra presenting on? They start the kiddos out with oral reports in second grade around here. By third grade they have annotated speeches on assigned topics. I know I would not make it on Jeopardy. Maybe Wheel of Fortune, as part of a couple with hubby.

Dearra's presentation was about Athena (they're doing mythology right now). And she's done presentations since 1st grade, but last year suddenly she was afraid of them.

my moms favorite show was jeopardy. she was really good at it. but i dont think she ever really tried getting on it. im not much of a fan of lady gaga. she tries to mimic all the outrageous things madonna did and then some. I could never understand why someone with a beautiful voice like madonna had to do all that crazy stuff to get popular. but i would probably do better with a question about her then lady gaga.

I don't know, I think Madonna has an OK voice, and I think she did need to do something to stand out, but she did it very cleverly and it worked for her. Now Cyndi Lauper, she really has a great voice, and I think she should have done much better.

Hey dawny! I think I'm quite impressed! At least about the Jeopary thing. I'm quite a fan myself, well at least when I get the answers correct. I am a bit surprised that you are such a Gaga fan. Definitely didn't picture you as one of her many "Monsters"~[em]confused[/em]
