Another busy day!

So, today being beautiful and warm, the roomie and I got into the laundry room and culled our clothes! The reason it needed to be beautiful and warm is because the room isn't heated or air conditioned and we were going to take the excess clothes to Goodwill, didn't want them to get wet. Now, this room has just been JAMMED packed with tee shirts and stuff, a lot of which were stained or bleached or had holes. But a lot of them we never wore either! But lets start at the beginning. I woke up about 6 a.m., the roomie got up about 7. We talked for a while then got dressed and went over to IHoP for breakfast. Then we went by the bank when it opened so we did some shopping and got home about 10:30. We goofed around for a bit before actually starting on the laundry room. Before I got started, I loaded up Maggiepie's clothes and ran them over to her house to get them out of the way. Meanwhile, the roomie did get started on the project. I get home and she's pulled a few things, but I had gotten some bins out of the car and we started sorting stuff. Socks and undies here, towels there, you know... that kind of stuff. Once I got home, she started pulling down shirts and we went thru them. We discovered 4 shirts exactly alike, 3 went to Goodwill. Another shirt we found 3 times. We knew we had a couple of several other shirts and the best of them stayed, the rest went away. If it had stains... it went away, bleach spots... gone, holes... bye! After about 2 hours we had filled 3 large black trash bags with clothes and cleared off two of the poles along one wall. We had also filled a black trash bag with hangers. We decided it was time to take a break and deliver this load to Goodwill, it filled up the back of my new car. When we got back, we attacked the hampers and bins that the other roomie had been filling up. We found a whole lot of things, and hung up all the clothes that she had just been stuffing in these things. While going thru these things, we filled a couple of more bags with clothing that I carried outside, but I couldn't put them in the car. When we were finally finished I had taken some stuff out of another clothes storage place and was having them also go away, and by about 4 we had re arranged the laundry room, lowered one set of elfa shelves and the clothes bar on it and removed another so to allow another bar to be raised. We went back to Goodwill with 2 more full bags of clothes and another bag half full, and another bag of hangers! At that point we hadn't eaten since around 8-8:30 in the morning, so we rewarded ourselves with a good early dinner before returning to the house to wrap it up. We pulled 2 hampers out of the laundry room so the other roommate can't stuff them with stuff again, and put a couple of laundry baskets up on a shelf. We put the fabric for a project of mine in one of the bins that previously had winter clothes in it, but have set aside a few other bins for the winter clothes when winter is over. I swept in the room and honestly, the laundry room hasn't looked this good in YEARS! I still had to wrap the roomie's great nephew's birthday presents but that's done and we are ready to go to the party tomorrow. Needless to say, we are rather sore and tired, but the satisfaction of a job well done makes it so worth it! Have you accomplished anything today?

well, the roomie is bad about wearing rags, and why should we when we have perfectly good things and the rags could be sold as rags for recycling now the OTHER roommate literally does wear rags - we only see her in about 4 things and they are full of holes until she puts on her uniform and goes to work.

sounds like you had a great day. its good to go through your clothes every once in a while to get rid of things. yesterday i went grocery shopping and did some other errands. i bought a flowering plant for my mom and mother in law for valentines day and we delivered them too. (my dad passed away in 2009 and my fil has altzheimers), so hopeflly we brightened their day a bit.

well, we did it a year or so ago, but not so ruthlessly - we still have lots of clothes, but almost everything we've not worn for whatever reason is now gone!

Uh... Let the cat out. Let the cat in. Fed the cat. Let the cat out. Let the cat in. Fed the cat... Uh... doesn't look like I've done anything so far today.

our cats are inside cats and we free feed, but we did have to make sure that the cats in the office didn't get to helping us too much in the laundry room.

That sounds like a normal day. Only at my hose it's let the dog in and out a gazillion times a day. The cats have their own door. Feed them, feed them, feed them a dozen times a day. They are not spoiled. I'm just their slave who also has to pay their rent and heating bills.

That's awesome .. which reminds me that I need to do my own Samaritan packing too. Lots of clothes unused , might as well give it to the Salvation Army or something. Normally on a non working day , I'd spend myself watching news on TV , and I love watching several news to get my own perspective. Watch some cable shows , go out , tidy my room or the whole apartment if I have the extra non-lazy cream syndrome , LoL .. and then go out. I need to be out on a free day if not I'll go crazy. Just somewhere nearby will be fine. As long as I go out for a bit and then come back refresh to sleep or just do something constructive like hanging my pile of clothes on the hanger or folding them up. And the storeroom ! There are no garages for most homes here in Singapore so I'll have to clean up the mess in the storeroom. That one has been postponed for ages. Thanks for the indirect idea. Now I know what to do next ..

I know that you probably weren't thinking of taxes but did you know you can deduct charitable donations? It's wise to take a digital picture and you must get a receipt but you can take a deduction for stuff like that. I've done that before, too, although I didn't have that much stuff! It's nice to get rid of clutter and stuff we no longer need or want. I usually give my stuff to the Salvation Army or other charity because I've become very disillusioned with Goodwill. They charge $3.79 for a shirt--you can get a new one for $4-5!! Goodwill has become a business rather than a charity. Regardless, it's good that you got rid of some stuff in a positive manner!

Well, the roomie likes Goodwill a bit more, tho they have stopped fixing things as training like they used to. But they do a bit more for the disabled then Salvation Army and around here, they actually charge more at Salvation Army... I know about the deductions, but only if you make enough and donate enough and I donate a lot, but don't make enough to make it worth while... used to be that you could deduct but not as much now... my bro is a CPA...

I need to do my laundry room. It's also my tool room and cleaning supply room. What a mess. A while ago, I cleaned out half my closet. I have 1 large bag for charity. I still have a way to go. I will find more things I don't want or need. I love getting rid of things that aren't going to be worn or used. I even had some old curtains a friend gave me. I don't want them, I will never use them. They are retro 60's. Actually they were probably made in the 60's. No thanks, but I'm not going to hang them in my house even if they are in perfect condition.

ooo and if they are from the 1960's the fabric is probably YUKKY and you'd never dream of making anything from them! If I could get to my front window, I have some curtains I want to hang, as of right now I've got some cloth shower curtains up just for privacy!

I couldn't sleep last night, so I went in there and put the winter clothes in to baggies, sat on them to get the air out and now have winter clothes in a bin for the summer. No, not all of them, but MOST of them! Kind of gray today, but not cold.

Sure, have. It's taken me all evening to read this epistle. Seriously, if that had been me three fourths of it wouldn't have been done. When I'm doing stuff around the house, even cooking, I have to stop and sit down about every 15 minutes. I can't stand for very long at a time. Do you think y'all could come to my house and 'straighten' things up? I'll give you a Tootsie Roll Pop.

I kid you not, my feet are KILLING me, I think my right ankle has gone on strike and the roomie's arms are about ready to fall off (she is tall enough that she could reach OVER the junk and pull the shirts off the top pole.) While working on the lower shelf/pole, she sat down, but I was moving things from here to there in the office (that the laundry room is off of) and when I thought I had a full bag, packing it up. I was also trying to figure out about the hangers! Now, we can easily pull a tub out and get to any thing. I need to get a shot of the room now that its done!

This has been a lazy Sunday. Since it was finally warm and sunny, I walked both ways to each church service, 3/4 mile each way. After lunch, I read the Sunday paper and took a nap. A very pleasant day.

I don’t remember what I did four days ago but I know my day was not as productive as yours! I went through my clothes on the weekend and now I have a pile that are ready to give away sitting on a chair. My niece is going to go through the pile to see if there is anything she likes and the rest are going to be donated to The Salvation Army. It is a cleansing feeling when a room or a cupboard gets cleaned out after a long time. Good job guys!

I need to follow your lead and get rid of a lot of clothes. My house is so small I really don't have anywhere to keep them. I have clothes from when I was 16 and they still fit. When I change clothes from winter to summer I get rid of a few things, but not as much as I should. I have two closets in the whole house and the clothes are stuffed in them, and in all the drawers. Just this last Christmas I said I wanted sweat pants that would fit over braces I have to wear on my legs. I told everyone that I would get rid of the old ones. I got 6 pair. I did get rid of some, but some I kept "just in case". That is my problem, I keep thinking I can wear things around the house and I keep items that I shouldn't. I have far too many clothes for someone that doesn't work or go many places. I just can't seem to part with most of them. When I do, a few months later I am looking for an item that I don't have anymore and I regret it.

Well, I kept all but about 3 shirts with collars, because I really don't have TONS of those, and I wear them every day because I put my pouch around my neck to carry my cell phone, I carry the pouch instead of a purse. We kept all my jeans, but again, I have, maybe a dozen pairs. Mind you, I can go several weeks without washing clothes... even with the cull, but I really shouldn't! We kept some nice tops in case the roomie has to get another job, or for going to a nice place for whatever reason. But, where before we had about 14 feet (over 3 meters) of stuffed full clothes rack, we now have about about 10 feet (just over 2 meters) of less tightly packed tee shirts.

My response just disappeared. Hmmm! Anyway, I regularly clear out my clothes, especially ones that I know I'm not going to wear anymore. John is a major problem though as he hoardes clothes, even ones he's had for years and has no intention of wearing. I am currently trying to sell my bike on eBay. Someone came round but she wasn't interested (and did tell me why) but the price is up to £7.25 with a day to go, so it will sell and I'm glad because it upsets me seeing it in the shed. It needs a good home with someone who can spend some time getting it right for riding again.

Besides fielding a cluster of phone calls (including 2 from the Johnster cuz)(& there went a 2-hour chunk of my day....), & 4 visitors (you being one), & taking care of some bank business--I finally got almost enough sleep! Now YOU get some rest so you can work without dragging on Monday! You hafta put all that laundry of mine away, remember! havent accomplished much except to pi$$ my son off yesterday, he and new gf went to pick out some living room furniture since we still had a rather empty house since, ex-ex, took all the furniture practicly when she left. this morn bright and early about 8 am, is early for me on sunday. they delivered when they werent supposed to till 9am. anyway, the door bell went off, coco went nuts of course and hadnt even been out to potty. they were bringing things in and im not to nice when i wake up anyway, so try to stay away from people. but my small love seat type couch was in the way and a few other things. so i just told son, why not pull it in to the kitchen there till we arrange things later and he said, no, the tables going there. but i said gee, unless the tables hummungous, the couch can sit along the wall till later. he got mad at me and said ok, proceeded to pull it over and set it on his foot! the dumby. sometimes for an intelligent guy, he surprises me. so, i got blamed for the hurt foot, when actually he was just in a mood from getting woke himself. he was irrate with me till a couple hours later.

My morning starting not good! I think I am getting the bug that is going around! I had to push myself to get some laundry done. My washer and dryer finally got hooked up during the week! Then I loaded up my car with steel and aluminium cans. Then headed to the recycling center. Then grabed lunch at McDonalds which I really should stop going to! Another story for another day! Came back home, spent some time on the computer then took a nap. Then I went to feed horses at the stable. After that I ran to Walmrt and got some things. Was not happy waiting in line to check out! Wish Walmart would have more checkout's open when it is busy! Then came home and have been on line since. Soon bed! That was my day!

I had the bug a couple of weeks ago, think I've about kicked it now... I wish we had more time to do things, but the roomie took most of last week off and just vegged and seem to have gotten over some of the stress she's been having lately. I need some time off, haven't missed a day since last January when my car broke down and before that in 2008 when I had to have my gall bladder removed. I need some time off!
