Where can I find my childhood stream?

In the rural areas, how is the rubbish dealt with? It's thrown away into the pools, streams, rivers or lakes. There's a stream running by my village.I used to play along it,fish and swim in it,which I was so familiar with when I was a child. But now it's strange to me.As long as I walk along,I can see nothing but ugly, badly smelly rubbish, such as fruit or melon peel, big or small bags of used things, old clothes, floating foam, broken sponge sofas, insecticide bottles, dead animal bodies, and once I saw a dead big pig being soaked in the water! For so many years I don't dare to swim in it.I can't find my childhood stream,it can only hide deeply in my mind, and never comes back to me.So long,my joyful stream.Sigh!!!!!

That's what's happening in most rural areas, and it's common. It's the most convenient way for people to throw their rubbish and it's not illegal by the way. On top of that, people living in those areas are already used to the way life is, and they can't be bothered too much about how the environment around them looks like.

I think so.What they have been doing roots in their conception,it's hard to change. So if there's lack of caring and supervising from the government,no one can stop them.

What has changed? In your childhood, there was, no doubt, less to be thrown away and, perhaps, fewer people to have rubbish to dispose of but people must have had some things to throw out ... and there must have been a place for them, perhaps a public midden. These days, there seems to be so much more to dispose of. We now have plastic wrap, bags and bottles as well as plastics used for fabrics and furnishings. None of these will naturally rot and degrade as much of the rubbish used to do. We also use detergents instead of soap and artificial fertilisers and insecticides which persist in the environment and pollute it. Can you not do something about the situation? It involves educating people and also giving them a place where all this rubbish can be disposed of safely. It is very often up to those of us who are older and remember how it used to be to begin the education but it is also the older, wiser ones who must live with the times and find new solutions for the problems of today. People may lack education and may seem lazy in the way they dispose of things but the fact is that people are no less lazy than they were fifty or more years ago: there is just more rubbish and fewer places to put it than there was. We must live with the times and learn to make provision for them. It is only those with a concern for the environment who can show the way and help to create solutions. We may be old but we must be 'young' in our thinking and our enthusiasm.

Once people get wealthy, they have more rubbish to dispose of.Yes,in my town there are two rubbish collecting workers, but they're only in charge of the streets. There are too few rubbish pools for the villagers around, and they think nothing of littering. Many thanks.

Hi, i also feel the same, i think of my childhood and the places we used to go. Now those place are changed- dry and not beautiful. I think we have started judging things and that is the reason we don't see the old place from our childish heart. We have to be clear from our heart and then all things will be as per our childhood.

Civilization has almost arrived everyplace all over the world, and rubbish comes after it.Something must be done to deal with rubbish in a right way.

Unfortunately, it seems like that is what the world is coming to. There has to be somewhere to put the garbage and it seems that the streams is where it is landing. It is sad that this is happening. I guess if everyone in your community were to make a concerted effort, you could clean up the area and make it at least a little better. Is there somewhere else that the garbage could be put? Do other people in your community feel the same way? If a group of people were to go out some weekend, you could pick up all the garbage and move it to an area far away from the stream and try to clean it up. Other people might think you are crazy, but all it takes is a small group of like-minded individuals to take some small action and eventually it will catch on. It might take years of effort on the part of many individuals, but it is possible to get it back to where it was. Good luck with that and have a great day!

Maybe you should find some like-minded people and start a stream cleanup posse. If people see you doing that, maybe they will realize that what they are doing is wrong. If no one takes action, it will only get worse. Maybe make it a family or school or community project. If it is really important, then people might do something. Good luck!

Yes,in my town really there are two people in charge of collecting garbage and carrying to the pointed place, but they only clean up the streets. All the other villagers far away from the market always throw all the rubbish into the streams. They think nothing of that, their health senses aren't strong, that's the reason.Have fun!

That is sad that it got turned into a trash hole. It is awful what people do to good places that people enjoy.Your right a lot of places that are in rural areas don't have trash service, so they throw there trash wherever they can find. They can get it but they don't have the money too so they throw in wherever. I've even seen people in rural areas have a spot in their own yard where they put all of their trash in an area furthest from their house.

There are two pointed people cleaning the streets every other three days, but nobody is in charge of the trash from the villages around,so the villagers always throw wastes away into the streams nearby.Day by day, rubbish can be seen here and there in the streams.

It happens in my country too. People no longer care about the environment but keep polluting the rivers with their rubbish. The rivers near our house has many fond memories of my childhood. We used to play around a banyan that was growing near the river. We hanged on to the over hanging roots to swing like tarzans and jump to the river. The river water was crystal clear then and enjoyed splashing around until our mouths turned blueish pale as a result of swimming and playing in the rivers for hours. The river has now become a public dumping ground and is covered with all sorts of rubbish and animal carcass.

I think that's all because of two reasons:People's health consciousness isn't strong; The supervising from the government is too loose.

Oldsix, Well, I can assure you that if you do not try to do anything on your part then that stream of yours would not only disappear but will start a chain of reaction starting with pollution right down to severe health problems for people living within the vicinity. So, take out your digital camera or your cellphone (if it has a camera) take some pictures and report it to the local authorities to have this problem fixed. I am sorry but you are no longer a child and we do need to do our part as far as taking care of our environment is concern. I have visited some rural areas in your country and I do see quite a lot of improvements over the years. I am just a little concern about your area though but I am sure your nearest environment and health authorities will like to attend to this problem. Have a nice day.

Yes, I agee that it is in your mind. One way to bring it out is like you did, write about it. For your son, write a story or poem that tells your memories. Then the memories will be with him too. I agree with Owlwings that you should do something to let people know that this is not good and that some other way has to be found to get rid of wastes and trash.

Yes,I should do something for that. But I don't think I can change the things individually, mostly because of the people's health ideas as well as the supervising from the local government.

Yes,that means time that has run by can never come back to us,we can't prevent us from becoming old.But we'd better keep a young mindset to do more things and enjoy life.
