Today at lunch, I was so hungry so I ate pretty fast. I kept putting food in my mouth, one after another. I get this way when I'm pretty hungry and I know it's not good. Are you a fast eater? I'm fairly pretty slow unless I'm hungry. I heard that you're supposed to chew at least 26 time for each scoop of food in your mouth. Do you follow this? I've tried it and the food flavor and texture changes to not so great. I wonder how much healthier I can be if I did eat like this though. Know the benefits?

26 times? I dont count how many times I have to put food in my mouth. I don't know if it will be beneficial to me but I might try it since you mention benefits

It's not the times you put your food in your mouth but the amount of bites you make for 1 scoop.

I have heard that you should chew more than that. hahaha... So as to help in the digesting process thus reducing the chances of the food storing in our stomach as fat. I tried it sometimes but when I reached to 20 bites, the food was so grinded and slippery that I tend to swallow it already...hahaha...

And the flavor gets sucked out and the texture is not cool either, huh?

I am a very slow eater and usually the last one to always finish my food and usually the cleaning is getting done in the kitchen and im still eating. It takes me forever probably becaus ei hate throat surgery to stop chocking on my food and to help me get better. I have never heard of chewing 26 times for each time you put a piece of food in your mouth. I think that is alot and i think the food would be gone by the time you even probably got to the 20th chew. Not sure as i have never tried this before. Im sure if you start eating slower you might not feel so heavy after eating and you might not feel so good about what you just did. It might just be in your head about eating that fast but you should check up on the benefits of eating slower.

I'm not sure the benefits unless it's easier digestion. Maybe even better for someone that suffers from an upset tummy. I'm like you..sometimes I eat fast and then other times I savor it more.

I'm typically a slow eater. Once in a while if I'm really hungry, I find myself eating faster than usual. I'm the girl who is always still eating, at the table, when everyone else has finished. Not sure how it happens but it always does. I don't feel like I'm eating slow, I just eat slower than my other family members I guess!

Well I don't eat fast but not very slow either... I do pop food in and can take my time with the food... enjoying the taste and textures etc... but dont do the whole 26 chews!! LOL I love my food but dnt fancy hurting my jaw... although it would put me off eating all my dinner and hence lose more weight! Could well try that!! Happy myLotting!! xx

I heard that by chewing your brain tells you that your full so it's good to chew a lot if you are dieting.

I know that it is way better to eat slowly. It is better for digestion and so avoids indigestion. Also it takes 20 minutes before your stomach registers that it is full. By eating slow you avoid overeating. However, when I'm very hungry I eat fast. Also, when I'm eating by myself and not doing something else at the same time I eat fast. I like to keep myself preoccupied. Sitting and staring at the wall inbetween bites is painly tedious.

I am the same way. I find I take in air and burp too which is discusting. I realize what I am doing after a bit and slow down. Tonight we went out for dinner and I had salmon. We had to wait awhile and I was pretty hungry when my salmon, baked potato and sauteed mushrooms came. I did as i described above and realized it, and stopped and slowed down. It was awfully good.

Hi Lore, I can be a Fast Eater and gulp down the food as quick as I can but only at rare times... when I am in real hurry. But normally I am a slow eater though I did not know about the 26 time chewing of each scoop. I was told that the more you chew the better it is for digestion as it mingles and blends with the saliva which contains something called enzymes. But yes, the texture and the flavor does seem to change many a times if I do try chewing longer and so I think practice tells what is best for me and maybe you too.

I usually eat my food at a slower pace. I have ate fast at times and I don't like the way I feel due to over stuffing myself. I don't know how many times I chew a bite. I do know that it is better for your digestive system if the food is chewed more.

If you eat faster, you will have flatulence. That's because, out of your haste, air enters your stomach, creating flatulence. Eating in moderate speed will give you more time to digest your food. It is said that eating in that way will also help you maintain your normal weight. I am glad i eat in a moderate speed.

I am usually a fast eater, especially during breakfast and lunch time because it seems that I'm running out of time to do my job. However, as much as possible, I try to eat more slowly and take time to chew my food. Experts have said that chewing the food breaks it into smaller particles so it becomes easier to digest. It is also mentioned that chewing signals the rest of the gastrointestinal system to start the digestive process.

My brother actually eats so fast that its really like hes swallowing his food whole. I personally love to chew my food more than normal and very slowly to take the work load off of my digestive system. The food tastes better to me when I really savour the flavor and slow down the process. Really helps me think about and appreciate the meal I'm eating.

Actually, its good for your health if you chew food properly. Chew each mouthful of food thoroughly, chewing between 25 and 50 times. Chewing your food is the first step in the digestive process. Few benefits: 1. Carbohydrate digestion begins with salivary alpha-amylase 2. Chewing relaxes the lower stomach muscle 3. Triggers the rest of the digestive process 4. Incomplete digestion can lead to bacterial overgrowth

Hi. Lore2009. I love to eat lunch. I try to eat more slowly now. I don't chew at least 26 times though. I don't think that my food would taste so great after leaving it in my mouth for this long though.

I am a turtle when it comes to eating as I take forever to finish my plate. Although I have never counted how many times I actually chew, and I do not think it is 26 times as I think that would be exhausting to me. Although I eat slow I really can't say it is because I am chewing longer. I think I am just a procrastinator and simply take long for the next spoonful, hehehe.. I have been this way all my life.
