Mostly senior programs and an outreach program for the poor. The worst loss could be people not being about to get to donated food that is now being sent to outreach programs and the next worse is no transportation to medical appointments for the poor and elderly. Most people here would have to walk miles to get to a bus station and taxis in the country cost $20 to $30 one way. the cost of gas is going up, so many poor won't be able to get to food banks in our city from the country, that's why the outreach areas are sooo important. Congress is having one vote on much of this March 4th. So what cuts have you heard about that could hurt your area?

All I see so far are school programs and I haven't even seen those first hand. The H&W offices have changed. Other offices answer for them and so forth. Different when you go in too. Our city food store has closed it open door policy. They used to let you come in and get bread and toiletry items but they don't anymore. I don't know about the senior centers. We have pretty good programs here.

It was in our newspaper what will be voted on, what might be cut, and how it will affect our area. You don't have similar in yours? It's not on your TV news? Radio?

I don't watch the news. I have severe depression and certain things I am extremely sensitive to. News tends to get me not alittle aggitated. I decided long ago to take care of my little corner of the world and let the strong, and healthy take care of the rest. I do catch a story here and there but I try not to.

Most of the people I run into are pretty much like you are. I just don't have it in me anymore. I am so disappointed in the US and the big banks, and all I hear about that I don't care who is in office or who is doing what anymore. And more and more laws. I haven't voted for a president since Clinton and I probably won't. I really tried this last time but I could not do it. Neither party had anyone I wanted to see in office. I haven't changed my mind either. I figure I have 20-30 more years and I will fight to keep things for my kids and after that come back and haunt the jack a's that didn't do a good job.Heehee I am a very curious person and so I feel the conspiracty theory is just my speed.

My area is cutting transportation for the elderly and reduced bus routes. There are less buses running, so not everyone can get on the bus, which means its hard to take the bus to a job. Now when the bus is full it doesn't stop unless somebody wants to get off. Its really frustrating. The high price of gas is the reason more are taking the bus just wish the city would increase the number of buses.

How frustrating for all. What people often don't realize is that what hurts one group often has a trickle effect and ends up hurting everyone. The high price of gas is killing us up here. We only have buses for people who have no cars and need to go shopping once a week. So we can't even take a bus to work. To loose good things that you gain that people need for work. I'm sorry to hear that. My brother is an ARC client (he's intellectually disabled). He can't drive. He used to be able to get a bus from the ARC to go to work. Now thay don't have buses for community ARC people, only ones that live in their houses. So my husband is bringing him to work right now. Luckily he only works once a week, but it's 25 miles each way (total 50).

Semcac (? sp) might have to cut the dinners for the elderly at the senior towers building here in town too..that is the only hot meal some of them get and it's a well rounded very nourshing meal...some it's the only real meal they eat each day. I do hope that they can continue to give them these lunches! So many would be stuck either not having anything at all or very little, maybe just snacks!

All those "little" things is what they cut. For heaven sake, let's not cut any politician or government person's expense reports! Of course, let's not have them pay for their own car and gas. This is what makes me so mad. Our tax dollars pays for these people's cars, gas, maintenance etc. Yet we pay for our own. Never is there a "spending cut" to their expense reports that we have to foot the bill for. They vote themselves a pay increase! However close..these unions where we tax payers pay for their retirement and health insurance, when most of us don't even have a retirement plan from our jobs nor can afford health insurance for ourselves, but these union people expect us to continue paying for theirs. Ok, off topic. I just get tired of always being among the ones that get the spending cuts and the tax increases while those that are making those spending cuts and tax increases never vote for anything that effects them! Again, sorry...off topic. We dont' even have a food bank in this area....have to drive a ways to get to one and then since you are not in "their" city, you are last in line.

Those are the cuts that bother me here too. Education cuts bother me but the cuts on the needy are the worst. I hate what the government have laid on our elderlys shoulders. It is too much.
