I went to Wal Mart Friday to pick up some cat food and a few other things and as I was checking every thing out I noticed that the cost for a bag of sugar had gone way up!! It was 69 cents for a while then 889 cents but I was shocked to see that the price was $2.22!! So I did not get any knowing that Aldi's would be cheaper and so I went to Aldi's and the sugar there used to be 85 cents for a bag and I noticed it had gone up there too but not as much as Wal Mart it was $1.22 or something like that, and I noticed Wal Mart's eggs had gone up on price too as well none for under a dollar so once again I checked the price at Aldi's for a dozen eggs used to be 45 cents now 69 cents but those 2 things were much cheaper at Aldi's so I went for it!! Got the eggs and sugar at Aldi's and a few other things. I guess since those idiots raised the price on gas out there they decided to raise the price of our food too! Will it ever end? The prices we have to pay now? What do you think is going to happen? Do you think the gas and food prices will ever get back to normal so we all don't have such a hard time?

I wish food was that cheap. I haven't seen sugar for $2.22 for 4lbs in a long time. The cheapest I have found here is $2.50 for a bag and that's not even the good sugar. Eggs here aren't under a dollar here either. I paid $2 for a dozen eggs the other day and they weren't organic, cage free or vegetarian fed.
One thing that I was really happy about. Yesterday I went to the store and 8th Continent Soy milk was $1.99 for half gallon. Last week it was almost $3. Very happy about that drop in price.

That is crazy! I know regular milk locally is pretty high. Its a give and take situation for us. Produce is a lot cheaper for the most part (if you shop seasonal and the small farmers stand), but other things - like bread and sugar - are higher.
We live out in California now and there isn't a super walmart nearby, but before we moved out here in 2009 I used to shop at a Super Walmart in Louisiana and the prices weren't anywhere near as low as what you are paying. Count yourself lucky

I highly doubt the price will ever go down but only going up... I noticed the prices of lots of thing have gone up as well at the stores. When we get gas yesterday, we were talking about the gas is going to be $4 very soon...

Yeah, your prices are better than they are here, too, but we don't have an Aldi's. The best I could find for sugar was almost $3 for four pounds. I don't use much of it any more and will probably use less of it in the future, but we have to eat and the price of other things keep going up, too.
The reason (they say) that food prices are going up is because it costs more to transport it. That makes sense, I guess. Gas is up because of the unrest in the mideast where we get a lot of our oil. That and OPEC playing politics with the situation as usual.

The prices you mention are lower then ours and I do believe the prices will continue to rise and then lower but not lower then what they were.
This seems to be the pattern with all products. They raise the price and then bring it down a little so that we think we are getting a deal.

I think the prices are horrible. Gas is up. Every single thing you eat is up. The only thing not up is income. some on fixed income will soon have to make a choice. Eat or take your medicine. What an awful situtation to be in. Was at pharmacy some older guy needed prescription. They told him it was $1000. Those pills better be gold.

Yeah, it's looking pretty crazy with the prices right now. Problems in the middle East and bigger asian needs makes the oil prices to berserk! The food prices going crazy is certainly bad too I agree. As for if how it's going to end is hard to answer. We could solve the problem by producing cars running on alternative fuel or eating less meat, the question is if people are ready for that and if the politicians and big companies want to contribute to this.

All I can say is I hope it gets better for all of us because I feel like this is a shame for all of us in this economy! All we can do is hope and pray.

I am fond of discussions like this, as they always give me an insight into prices in the world....and make me want to vacate my country! And shop in yours!
Our fuel today, is about $5.64 a gallon for gas, diesel is higher! Sugar is, and has been for a while, well over a dollar a pound...Milk is $4.50 a gallon, Eggs very near $4.00 a dozen..and Organics over $6.00 a dozen!
I do NOT foresee ANY decline in prices, as we are so conditioned to these false economies, that we learn to accept the high prices...and before long, anything a little bit cheaper, is a bargain, but it is higher than the old price we used to pay.
I think it is whatever we are conditioned to! I live in B.C. Canada, and get up very early....so listen to Boston, Mass. news, where gas is $1.38 a gallon, and to me that is horrendously cheap, but to them expensive...look at our's $5.64..400% more. I guess what I am saying as it is all relative to what you are used to!
BUT that doesn't mean I like it...LOL! Thanks for sharing and giving me an insight to the economy around the world! Cheers!

Thank you. The sad thing, by the time you reach our prices, our's willhave gone much higher again!
I think the biggest price shock I had in a long time...last Easter I invited some people for a "cookout" as the weather was beautiful..didn't have enough tomatoes, so asked a poor soul to go to the local Corner Store for two....nearly passed out, as two SMALL tomatoes were $6.32! OUCH! Truly makes me appreciate my garden a lot more
!
I see you are in the Boston area, very interesting, as I am way on the West Coast of Canada, small Island...and even right now, I am listening to WGB, Boston. I am up very early..usually 3 a.m. and because you are 3 hours ahead, I can get news from your State. Love it! Sorry bout your weather and flooding! Nasty! Take care and have a great Day!@jahernandezrivas (11287)

O.M.G.!!! That is worse than here but I am sure by the summertime our prices will be the same as there so that is what I have heard! It is a shame to all of us we should not have to go through this kind of misery and torture!!! Boston is cheap!! But I am sure the high prices will soon hit them too! Well good luck out there and have a nice day!

Your prices are cheaper than mine!!!!! I think I paid about $2.50 for a 5lb bag of sugar and eggs have been anywhere between $1.19-1.49 a dozen & that is at Aldi's! I've been buying eggs @ Walgreens as they've had them on special for .99 a doz.
The prices will continue to climb as long as gas does. And if you recall a few years back when gas was this high that all the prices jumped and stayed that way even if gas went down.
Then because they were working on alternative fuels using corn products the price of products made from corn went up.
This is why this year we are expanding our garden yet again!

I receive the same pay over a year. no increase of salary inspite of all the prices in the market shoots up.. a never ending price increase my dear.
