Insurance Frustraits me

When I went in we killed 2 birds with one stone you could say & I took DD1 with. I took her because she was entitled to an exam yearly and there was a discrepancy in her vision tests. The school tests and she passed in fall. However, a couple months later at her well visit the nurse said her vision isn't up to par. How can this be? The school tested her and it was fine the ped tested her and it wasn't. So she had her appointment and it turned out her script has changed ALOT!!! BUT she's not entitled to anything but new lenses & her exam at this time. So I had them put the new lenses in her current frames and she's wearing her frames the cat nibbled on til the glasses come back. Though what's lousy was that she'd be entitled to a whole new set of glasses in Nov. BUT if her script has changed ALOT and she is dyslexic would that not seem foolish to wait sooooo long?!?!?
She needs to see ya know?!?!
So then I guess in Nov we go and order her frames and I'll get the lenses elsewhere like at Wal-mart. As when the glasses the cat chewed up needed to be fixed or replaced within 9mo's of getting them they said a replacement pair would of been about $250... so she got fancy Hilfiger frames & lens from another place for $50 and they were ready next day. Though since we are doing the insurance thing so it doesn't cost us anything right now we are just replacing the lens and then we'll go from there I guess.

Zenni Optical! $8 a pair! I have a friend who tried them and he says they are great, he's very happy with his glasses which would ordinarily cost him close to $300.

I have found a pair or two I like on there for her similar to ones we saw at Target Optical for $130. I just need to ask her opinion and of course the spare cash to get one more pair for her.
I was thinking of finding out what they'd be w/ DH's script. But I don't know if they'd do a lens with a prisim in them which of course makes them quite expensive.

All you can do is ask. Wouldn't that be great?! Let us know how it turns out, everyone I know that's dealt with them are very pleased.

I hope that there isn't a physical reason for the sudden change in vision. It is possible that there is a problem and you should keep an eye on it. But then again, it is possible that your daughter could make out the symbols that the school was pointing to even if it wasn't really clear. That could be the cause of the discrepancy. Hopefully that is what happened. I agree that it would be foolish to wait if she needs the stronger lenses in order to be successful. Insurance rules suck!!

The script she had was a really light script. The Dr said that it's not uncommon for the first pair to be really light when they are so young. Exactly that I thought it would be foolish to wait she already has a learning disability and her vision should be at it's best so she can keep paces with her peers.

Yes, but it is good that you recognize the importance of the Rx being right so that she can do her best in school. We jump through many hoops to get things we are entitled to.

That's just it! Seems silly to wait for her to be entitled. I would think within a specific calendar year but not be picky about the month benefits are available KWIM?

I wonder if your doc could get the insurance to make an exception. I know they take protests sometimes....

I never thought of asking him that. Though the glasses are already off being made. I guess next time I'll have to have a cow and see where it gets me.

Well that doesn't sound very fun. I hate dealing with insurance or anything like that as well, of course I've not had insurance but twice since I've been out on my own and doing my own thing. Sounds odd, but let me reiterate, both times it was through my job that I had the insurance and that is much easier for me to handle instead of going off and getting it on my own and having another bill. It being paid through my job for the most part... well you can see I've not had to deal with it too much.

I don't even have real vision insurance! My insurance gives me like a 5% discount on items.. like frames.. not lenses, not contacts.. just particular stuff. And I think we pay like $7 a week for this insurance?
We're kinda ticked at our dental insurance right now because of all the notices we've been getting from them pertaining to my dental work a few months ago. They almost didn't cover it because they thought I was getting replacement dentures. No.. I've had some teeth pulled before and had partial dentures, but I didn't have full dentures and I wasn't going for replacements. I mean geez.. they saw the bill for the extractions, why would they assume these are replacement dentures? Duh!!
So we decided we're not going to get the most out of our dental insurance since we're paying for it anyways. We got hubby's root canal, and next month all 5 kids have an appointment to see hubby's dentist.

Insurance is really great until you need to use it. That is when we find out our coverage is not what we thought it to be. I live dawnald idea, ask the doctor if anyway he can do the write off.
It would not be a whole for him, but as a loyal patient they at times to this. Best of luck and I hope all works well.
