Spraying...

No, I'm not spraying the flowers with pesticide. I'm not spraying the dog so he won't bark, or the cats so they won't claw the furniture. I'm not spraying hairspray on my hair. I'm not spraying perfume on myself. I'm not spraying for ants or other pests. I'm not spraying non-stick cooking spray on a pan. In fact, I'm not spraying at all. It's the boy. He's past the age where you put Cheerios in the toilet water for him to aim at. C'mon at 10 years old, he should know how to aim, right? Seems like he is just in a hurry and he doesn't care who has to sit there afterward. How do you get a 10 year old boy to be more careful? Make him do the cleaning?

Just ask him nicely if he would like to sit in pee. He should get the point. This is something that his Dad should address but not if he is going to scream at Carey. And yes, if he has an accident then he should clean it up.

YEP! That would be my stradegy. How else would he realize the mess he is making. Good luck getting him to do it, though.

I think alot of the problem is that too many mother's just 'clean it up' never expecting the 'boys' to do any of their own cleaning. So, they end up slobs. IF they realize the work they are putting you to, as well as the disgusting mess you end up sometimes sitting in, because of them, then you have the problem beat. Or, you could just see if you could 'wet' the seat immediately prior to him going in for a number 2, where he has to sit down. Only water, mind you, but he need not know that. Now THAT would get the point across 110%, I think.

Wish I could tell you. I'm forever sitting on a wet toilet because none of my boys have learned how to do it right. I just keep a tub of clorox wipes near the toilet and have learned to wipe the seat everytime I go to use it.

when my grandson did that at 7yrs still when i lived with them a while, i started not only making him clean it up but calling him a baby. i told him that a man is a baby until he learns to raised the lid, hit the mark and put the seat back down clean. sorry to say, i embarrassed him into learning mostly.

Interesting, maybe that would work too. But said gently, not yelling like his dad tends to do.

I think you are right, he's just in a hurry. Clean up is the cure I think. Surely at the age of 10 he is no longer learning to just his equipment, and I would think the contests are done in a group setting. Yes I think cleaning is the choice for this offense. Blessings.

OF course you make him clean it every time he misses and also around the outside of the bowl too where it runs down I dont care really how careful most are to am right it runs down the outside ot the bowl stains it and looks yucky. you also could make him set in it so he sees how it feels. WE have a 25 year old living with us and he uses my bathroom as its the first in the hall way. every one uses it. but I made him clean he bathroom as a chore around the house and he just didnt clean the outside of the bowl I had to show him how awful it looked I bet I took him in there 3 or 4 times to clean what he missed. My hubby always wiped down the toilet after he peed for at his age he did dribble but he didnt see out side the bowl he couldnt bend down or over So I never said anything to him at all I cleaned myself when I did he bathroom. Seems they are just lazy nott o look or clean!

Make him put the seat up first and make him clean up. Explain (again) the good habits required by a hygienic and germ free existence. Find some gruesome photos of people with terrible skin conditions and horrible disfigurements and tell him "this is the result of toilet germs".

"C'mon at 10 years old, he should know how to aim, right?" You'd think so, but when it comes to boys, they could care less about aim when it comes to using the toilet. "How do you get a 10 year old boy to be more careful? Make him do the cleaning?" Hmm, possibly. Though it may not be a good idea. It might just backfire on you. Happy mylotting!

Well, I would hope he would wipe it if he tinkled on it. I would take something away from him. Something he likes to do. Not for long but just long enough to bring it to his attention. This seems to be the only way to get their attention. And explain it to them before hand. You don't like to set down on it and I would just tell him: "You haven't listen or seem to understood in the past why I asked you to do this so I am going to take ---- away for a day if you do it again. Gets his attention. If he says that isn't fair then explain it isn't fair to set down on tinkle either.

Hey dawny! I have some more disgusting ideas if your're really interested! I don't take that from any boy-man or whatever! If they don't know how to aim then they are going to pay a high price for the punishment! Can you read my mind?

Oh yeah, in my house the entire seat has to be "down" so the cats don't drink the "tainted" water~ (Sometimes we use that blueish stuff) and sometimes the bf flushes too soon! Another punishment!!!!

Wish I could help you on this, dawn, but ever since I learned how to sit on the toilet, I never miss! But my brother however uses the spritzer???? I call it the mini shower hose! He has a lot of fun spraying off his spills when he was younger. Sometimes he plays with water too much at the expense of the ones who pay the water bill but at least we get him to clean off his own mess.

Philippines is a tropical country so there's high evaporation rate! But most of the time, it's the next person who usually ends up doing the extra effort.

1. yes 10 years old should already aim straight. 2. He is lazy and have no care of what happen after hosing down. 3. Tell him, better yet show him that aiming straight is important and hygienic 4. Force him if you have to. Start early (actually almost too late already) if not he'll do it until the end of his life. 5. Tell him stories of germ and bacterias in the bathroom. 6. Lastly be gentle but stern. I hope you well in handling the matters.

Hi dawnald. In your case than it will be different. Continue to teach him to the right way of doing it, and he'll pickup the procedure when it's time. Do it with love and passion, He will do it, cause he nows you want the best for him.

Haha! It's funny how some problems for parents are all the same accross the board. I too have 2 boys. Althought it isn't much of a problem with the 10 year old, the 4 year old still have 'spraying incidents' in the toilet. I've asked my 10 year old to clean up his mess if hes sprays. He doesn't like doing that, so that may have helped his aim. I suggest you do the same.

Grown men can't get it right. Why can't they just sit? The shaking it after also sprays little droplets all over the bathroom. I wish bathrooms had some special paint that showed every drop so the males can learn what disgusting habits they have. Have you seen or heard of the toilets with a fly baked into the enamel to give grown men something to aim for?

That is exactly what I have made my boys, ages 13 and 10 do. Not only have I made them clean the seat when they spray on it, I have also made them clean around the bottom of the toilet and the sides of it whe they have "overshot". It really has helped, and they try to be more mindful when they use the toilet now.

This is the time when things might start becoming difficult for him in the aiming process..I have a grown son and we have been through this. I kept some of those lysol wipes in the bathroom and pointed them out. I also threatened to ground him if I saw one drop...

I don't think that there is anything at all wrong with making him do the cleaning at 10 years old to convince him to pay more attention with his aim. The reason that I think it is okay to do that is because I already do that to a lesser degree with my four-year-old. When he makes a mess when he is peeing I will have him get a piece of toilet paper and wipe up as much of it as he can see. Of course I will follow after him and use the antibacterials, but it seems to be working because he doesn't miss very often now.

That is funny.... Well I think his dad needs to help him on this one, but it's not a bad idea having Clorox wipes nearby and encouraging him to use them!
