At the moment my husband and I are painting our house, arranging the furniture and decorating the rooms. I think it is fun to experiment and I have already moved the furniture many times I looked for inspiration online, but most of the time I just followed my own ideas. One of the sites that I found was created by an interior designer and it was full of before and after pictures. I found it interesting to see the way that they had transformed the rooms, but I have never used an interior designer myself. If you didn't have to worry about the money would you like to hire an interior designer? Or you prefer to experiment on your own and follow your own ideas? Do you often rearrange the future or change the decorations in your home? Or do you prefer to keep the the rooms the way they look at the moment?

Wow, that is really fun. I love to browse interior decorating magazines. I always wish I have that kind of money and space to redesign my home 4 times a year. A new design definitely give a wonderful feeling, a breath of fresh air. I would prefer to get ideas and be innovative. Redesign and decorate myself would be more fun and self-satisfaction. A sense of achievement and I would appreciate it more :)

I also like to read interior decorating magazines. I think it is fun to look at the pictures and sometimes I get new inspiration that way. Some time ago I got some very old magazines about interior decoration. It was fun to look at the old wallpaper and the old furniture, at that time it was top modern, now it very oldfashioned I like to experiment and use my own ideas when I decorate a room. Sometimes it is a challange to find the right ideas. I had several problems with our living room because it is very big room, but I was happy when I finally found the right solution.

I am like your son. I love bathtubs and in the past I always tried to find a hotel room with a bathtub when I was staying somewhere else. Now I have my own bathtub. Our bathroom is small, so it is only a small bathtub (about half the size of a normal bathtub) but I am more than happy. We also have IKEA shops here and I like to look at the furniture and all the other things that they sell. My husband and I have bought several things there. I am not that good at assempling the things, but my husband is usually good at it.

You are so blessed to have such a big room. I always wish I have a big room to be able to put in the interiors that I like. The last time when I renovated my master bedroom, I check with the renovator, he said my bathroom are too small to fix in a bath tub. In my bathroom only have shower. My son love bathtub, that is why he love to go to hotel room with nice bathtub. Moreover, I had won a 32 inch LCD television but I just can't fixed in the corner of my master bedroom. I think I will just put it in my living hall then. Interior designing is a great hobby and very challenging! I have a friend who loves to go to IKEA to shop and DIY.

I like to change colours and sometimes change the place where furniture is, but I like to do it myself. It is a nice game to play, such as getting ready for a party. I would never hire an interior designer although I can´t even visualise myself as extremely rich. In my plans are redoing my bathroom, painting the living and dining rooms and changing the garage roof as it leaks. I have a small problem of cash flow though. But I´ll get there. My friends are wonderful helpers when they know how to do a job.

It is great that your friends can help you. I also like to change the colours and rearrange the furniture. When we moved into our house many of the walls were yellow and we have painted them in other colours. We are not done yet, but the house already looks different. I like to decorate the rooms myself. The living room was a challenge, because it is a very big room, but it was fun to experiment and try different things.

When I want to do something in my house that is beyond my posibilities I ask for help. I make a big meal and have tools and old clothes for them so they won´t destroy their good ones. One of my living room walls was entirely done by my eldest granddaughter when she was 12. She would not let anyone help her so that she could claim it as her own. I hope she wants to paint again now that she is 20

No matter the "money" situation, that I would find myself in, I don't believe I would consider an interior decorator. I know they have their place in life, but not mine. In life, I have had many occasions to be in higher-end homes professionally decorated, and I always felt something missing...and I think that was the personalities of the habitants! I have my own quirks and foibles, that I am sure would not align with the fads of decorating....so I applaud you wholly for taking on the task yourself, and creating something that you are comfortable in, that reflects you and yours...to me that is making a house a home. But, yes my furniture tends to be transient, and it is almost a point of hilarity with my son & I, when he comes home to visit, he asks if the rooms, even, are still in the same place! I do admit tho' I tend to be a seasonal decorator..with pillows and accents that reflect the seasonal colors...Why, I don't know..but it's fun! Good luck..I'm sure you will be pleased with the end product!

YES..you can gloat in the self-satisfaction, and be proud of what you have accomplished. I just recently had a bit of a battle on another site about Feng-shui, apparently the new guide to home decorating. There is so much about in nowadays, that you almost feel guilty if your home is NOT feng-shui'd..and truthfully so much of it, went against my grain, I would not have enjoyed a moment in my home! I, too, have an awkward Living Room...27 feet long, 14 feet wide, and one wall 18 feet tall...it provided it's own real challenges, but now I think I am happy with it....UNTIL I dream up something else! Enjoy the nest you created...congratulations!

That is a good point. The professionally decorated homes might be beautiful, but they don't reflect the personality of owners the same ways that other homes do. I have rearranged the furniture in our living room several times since we moved in. The room is quite big and I found it a little difficult to create a beautiful room. I had to think about it for a while, but I am happy about the result, and it gives me a feeling of satisfaction to know that I used my oen ideas instead of getting professional help.

I don't even have the money to redecorate it myself. I spring clean every year and every year I say to myself, "This room needs a paint job bad." In fact I said that not twenty minutes ago as I cleared out a corner of the kitchen.. I think even if I did have lots of money, I'd still do it myself, because I don't need anything fancy anyways..

We are very lucky, because my husband's aunt works in a shop where they sell paint and wallpaper and we were able to get very cheap paint. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford it, because we have a lot of extra bills at the moment and we don't have much money to spend on decorations and things like that. I don't need a lot of fancy things either. It was fun to look at the before and after pictures at the websites, but I found it a little annoying that there were no "ordinary homes". The rooms all belonged to rich people and they were full of expensive things that I don't need or want.

Yeah I hear you, we need a redecorating site for us commoners... That's great you are able to get paint like that. I could use a relative in the paint business as well as the carpet business, I desperately need new carpet and I do have a roll of nicely used carpet a friend gave me, but no one to install it..:(

Even though they may be experts at what they do it can be quite expensive to hire the services of an interior decorator. if you can do it yourself and enjoy it you can do just as well to do it yourself. I would love to rearrange furniture and create new color schemes for my rooms. Unfortunately, i live in a rather small place. Space is an issue.

The first apartment where my husband and I lived was also quite small. It was okay for one person, but there weren't much space for two people and it was hard to rearrange the furniture, so I know that problem. I enjoy decorating the rooms myself. I think it is nice to experiment and try different colours and different kinds of decorations. Some of the rooms have been a bit of a challenge, but I still think that it is fun to do it myself.

I would love to see an interior designer do some magic around here. This place is a mess. (typing this while inside my room)

Hi procospino, i always change the paintings or the interior design of my house, i don't like the same look everytime, so i take a chance, hmmmm though if i'm not bothered about money then even i with my friends or parents join to bring a new look , the way we do gives a cool and pleasant feeling then the work done by others.

I also like to change the design of the rooms in my home. I think it is a nice way to get new energy and inspiration and I am happy when I get a new look. I moved in the end of January and it has been a long process to get the rooms ready, because we had to repair some of the walls etc. Now we almost finished the practical work in the house and we can move on to the interesting part like designing and decorating.

Yes, a situation like that is a great chance to practice your interior designer skills. It is also a nice way to use your creativitity, and it is fun to experiment and arrange the furniture in the different ways. We moved to a new house in the end of January and since that I have already rearranged the furnitrue in the living room several times. Now I have finally found the design that I like, and I look forward to designing the other rooms as well

Starting this weekend my husband and I will painting the bathrooms and then slowly we will be painting the rest of the house one room at a time. My husband and I will be doing all the work by ourselves because it will give us a sense of accomplishment. After we paint the house then we will rearrange the furniture. I would not hire an interior decorator because I want things done my way.

Yes, it does give you a sense of accomplishment when you do things yourself. My husband and I moved a couple of months and we just finished painting the last rooms. It has been a lot of work, but I am very happy about the result. In our living room we have already rearranged the furniture several times. I like to look for inspiration online or in magazines, but I wouldn't hire an interior designer either, I prefer to decorate the rooms and arrange the furniture the way that I like it.

I would hire interior designer but only to give me just ideas and to show me the best stores! I have so many ideas, i like dark rooms, i like colourful rooms, sea rooms... I will need him to guide me through my ideas! He will have the imagination to make my idea work and tell me if i am crazy. Unfortunately i don't have my own home and it not worth to fix others homes!

I think that would be a great way to use in interior designer. If you already have a lot of ideas the interior designer will be able to guide you and help you make the most of your ideas. Some people use interior designers in a different way. They don't have their own ideas and simply let the designer transform the rooms the ways that they like. I wouldn't like to do that, I prefer to use my own ideas. In February this year my husband and I moved into a new house and it has been a challenge for me to decorate the rooms and arrange the furniture in the living room because it is very big room, but now I have found a solution. It was difficult, but it was also fun to experiment.
