The coat rant - part 2

So for those of you who didn't see this in my responses to my discussion about Dearra's lack of a rain coat, here goes...
We went to Burlington Coat Factory on Saturday. It was a half hour drive each way.
We got there, searched both the women's and children's coat sections, and didn't find anything that Dearra liked. Liked? Ha! She positively hated everything.
For half an hour while we looked at coats, all I got was that they were:
1. Ugly - something her grandmother would wear
2. Too long - who would want a rain coat that covered their legs?
3. Too complicated - who needs all those buttons and things? I just need a zipper and 2 pockets.
Ah, teenage opinionatedness!
So we headed back in the direction of home and ended up at Sears at the Sunrise Mall. I expected another long, painful ordeal. Instead, she immediately liked the very first coat that she saw. It fit, it was deeply discounted, in short we were both happy.
Naturally, having taking care of the raincoat problem, the rain has stopped, and there is no sign of another storm any time soon.
I'm just hoping she doesn't outgrow the thing before it rains again.

We're looking for a new coat for hubby because the one I bought him a month ago has already ripped! So far we haven't found anything he liked. It's really too bad he doesn't like bubble coats, Bass Pro had them on sale for $15!

At least it's end of season, and you should hopefully be able to find a good deal...

I guess we got lucky. They didn't really have Dearra's size, but they had a petite that fit her, and luckily the sleeves were not too short.

Or they're too picked through and no good ones left in his size. That's pretty much what we found this weekend.

Oh gosh with all the hundreds of selections at Burlington Coat Factory somehow I felt she would not like any of them. Mine never did like anything at the first stops, lol
But glad to hear she was happy at the Sears store. Now let's hope for rain!

Your adventures with your daughter make me laugh. First, because they're funny, but secondly because I don't have to deal with that any more!
I raised two daughters but they're both grown and on their own now, so if they need a raincoat, it's up to them to find one they like and buy it. Raising kids is like nothing else, though, so enjoy Dearra while you have her.

I am glad you were able to find something that was reasonably priced and did not settle on something that she would not wear. Teens can be so fussy about things.

Ah, yes, they know what they like and what feels good. I remember taking my daughter shopping for swimsuits at that age. She tried on eleven of them, at the mall, in assorted stores, before she found one that would do. She was very modest, very tall, very long legged, very slim. Two piece would have worked but there was this modesty thing going on. They do outgrow it. I could go right now and pick out a swimsuit she would wear, if they had them in the store. I think she did eventually stop growing. She is only 5'8".

Samantha wore a two piece when she was five, but not since. They can be really cute.

Seems like you got lucky at seras place. i personally am not that style conscious myself, i just go with w/e feels decent and comfortable but this incident happened with me and i got really annoyed and tired. It was the pujas me and my 3 friends went shopping and we were browsing through shops for like 7 hours straight and yet they didnt find anything that would match thier want, when i got my stuffs that i wanted right about as soon we got there. after being roaming around almost all the shops they finally bought their clothings which i didnt like at all ._. That day i made a note to myself.. to never go shopping with them again xD

I just go in, get what and want and leave. Going with somebody who takes forever and can't make up their mind and so on would drive me nuts too.

It's great you were able to find your daughter a jacket that she likes. But why didn't you just go to Sunrise Mall to begin with? You could have avoided so much...including a rant that way.
LOL
So, did you see a movie while you were there? Or did you go there just to get a coat?
Next time you go, be sure to invite me!
Although I prefer the Galleria...
Happy mylotting!

If we had gone to the mall first, I wouldn't have had anything to write about! Nope, no movie. We hit Fresh Choice for lunch afterward, and then she went home and did her usual (video games and/or tv).

Isn't that the way of it though? I am so glad Josh is that bad. He will wear nearly anything you throw his direction. Just let him go out and play. He is such a funny kid. A boy to the limit. My granddaughter was like a prima dauna or something. Nothing was good enough. She went through a goth phase too and drew spider webs by one eye.

Yah, all that rain, and now it's beautiful weather . . . of course that would happen, eh? Right now my daughter likes all the clothes I get for her - discounted, hand me downs, whatever . . . but oh I wonder what will happen when she wants to pick them out herself at her stores - and at what price!! I did that to my parents and drove them nuts - but then I learned you could get more clothes by getting them at cheaper stores (like second hand). Well, if she outgrows it, is Naomi close to fitting into her stuff yet?

Naomi has so many hand me downs from Dearra that there isn't room in her closet. And she's so small that she stays in them forever. But she has started complaining that some of here things are "so 5 years ago". She gets new things too, but not as many as Dearra. We open a box when Naomi grows a size, and it's "the ghost of wardrobe past"...

Oh! Don't I know it!
I bought my kids some winter coats this year, and not even before winter was done, they were already tight. Which of course means I'd have to get them new ones by fall this year.
But maybe I could will the 4-year old to grow as big as he could so he would fit the 10-year old's coat.

Ah, I keep all of Dearra's old stuff so that Naomi will never not have something. Of course, she is getting to an age where she doesn't always appreciate hand me downs...

Awww, the joys of shopping with your siblings, great isn't it? I haven't been to a Sears shop but I have been to a Maceys is it? In Vegas. I find it very odd that the tax comes AFTER the transaction rather than on the item itself. You might know what I mean seeing as you've been to the UK and can compare the two..er, systems!
Has everything gone up? It has here!

This is my daughter. My sister would have been more fun,and she would also have paid for her own jacket. lol This was a pretty decent price, but it was end of season clearance. YOu get used to the tax thing...

Do you have to work it all out in your head before you reach checkout. Our VAT currently stands at 20%. It was 17.5% when Labour were in and it was reduced to 15% for a year (that was ace) but, really, why can't it be 10% and be done with it.
Oh my, I'd be a popular Chancellor of the Exchequer wouldn't I?
