Here we go again.. back to the job search

United States

So for those who "know" me on here know my hubby had been out of work for a while when I was still pregnant last year. Well here we go again! He was laid of today from the job he started back in August. He isn't the only one to be let go. It wasn't even a shock as we had an idea the job was going south so to say. It was just a surprise that it had happened so quick and rather rudely at that. It is funny though that this has happened just two days before the anniversary of his losing the last job.

That's very sad news. I hope he has unemployment benefits and can soon find another job!

He will we just have to wait two weeks for his last paycheck (he was on a bi weekly and we where just paid on Tuesday) and then two weeks after the last check to file. It will be a tough month but we'll make do.

Oh sorry to hear your husband was laid off. A true sign that the economy is not picking up as they say it is. I do hope he is not off for too long and your family can get back to your normal routine. Many blessings and hope his job search goes well.

Thank you. It is amazing what people believe when the government says it. Numbers are down on paper for the unemployed but in reality they are up. The numbers given are people who are on unemployment. The thing is it no longer shows those who did not find jobs and are still looking for them and no longer getting unemployment benefits. It is the normal weaseling around the facts our politicians (all of them) do.

Oh OpinionatedLady you have no idea how many times I say that to people off line and they argue that it is not true the numbers speak. I try not to argue especially when it is obvious that many to date are suffering and I am one. I wish you family all the best and do hope your husband can get a job soon.

Well that stinks. What a pain that must be to start from scratch again. Does he get severance pay for a couple of weeks? I'm not really sure which companies do what when they lay off employees. Perhaps unemployment for a couple of months? I hope something turns up for you guys.

I do not know about severance pay but knowing this company I highly doubt it. He is eligable for unemployment which is good so it's just a matter of searching for the next job. It is a little deflating to have to go back kinda like being sent down a shoot in the Shoots and ladders games, but oh well it's life. No time to wallow just time to work it out.

It is funny how things tend to work out sometimes. I hope he is able to find another job soon. My granddaughter and her husband are out of work and I keep telling them that looking for work is just like a job. I never went very long without work. I have worked in customer service for thirty years.

We did it last year we can do it again. It just was a blow we didn't need to take. Life was back on track and here's another big bump. I am not 8 months pregnant this time so I can go out and find a job at night this time around.

What I could say to you is I feel so sorry for your husband, he is so unlucky that he had lost his job twice within a year. This shows that the economic is still not back to normal and there are still many company that struggling to survive. And most of the company are looking for way to cut down their operation cost from reduce the material cost and last resolution will be retrench their employee. That is really sad for today's world.

Yes it does show how the economy is and how our government is like an ostrich hiding it's head in the sand and refusing to believe it is getting worse not better. The government (federal) put out a list (printed in the paper) that listed our area as having one of the biggest increases in jobs for the nation...this made an alarming out cry for the people as just the week before the state had put out a statment that we would be up for state help in the area do to the sharp decrease in jobs and the increase in not only unemployment but those who are not employed but are no longer eligible for unemployment. The feds basically saw the numbers for unemployment benefits go down so made it sound as though everything was getting better but in fact only 2% of those off of unemployment had actually gotten jobs. Better my a$$.

I really sad about what had happen to you , I do also been layoff so many times so I feel your pain and agony about not having work. Last 2009 until the middle of 2010 I have no jobs and finished my EI ( Employment Insurance) after 3 months of no money I top off all my credit card and getting no money that's really a shocked to my family and been removed from my townhouse which we cannot pay for 3months luckily my nephew lend me some money so we can moved to another apartment. So pray and send a lot of resume on all companies , Good luck to you and your family. I hope your husband can get a job sooner.

So sorry to hear that hubby had been laid off. Anyway, just give him the support and tell him that there are other opportunities out there waiting for him. Sometimes we come to this situation that we can't avoid but just to accept the fact that the economy has greatly affect all of us. Hope he'll find another job soon.

We are not the feel sorry for ourselves types. We see it as an opportunity to improve our situation. Last time he decided to go back to school and so far that has been though difficult a great thing. This time we will see how the wind blows and where we land again. We are not scared of hard work and neither is too proud to take on some jobs others would find beneath them.

I know a lot of people that have been laid off lately. My parents friend was a millionaire and even he was laid off. I said maybe they shouldn't have bought that huge house with the pool and hot tub, they should have saved some more up. But yeah its tough in this economy. what kind of work was your husband in? just keep looking and I'm sure you guys will find something soon that works for you.

He is a diesel mechanic by trade but has been working and has his licenses for environmental clean up. He's the guy in the white suit cleaning up the Hazmat spills. He has for the last two jobs found positions doing both as many of the companies like to have their own mechanics. He is going to school to get a degree in specialized electrical maintenance so he can work hopefully in the solar fields.

Wow. That's intense. Sorry to hear that. Keep you're head up. I know it's easy to say that and harder to live it. I have to say, my husband and I work for the same company. Not a good idea, eggs in one basket and all that. As much as we dislike the company we work for, recently bought out by another company, we are fortunate to have jobs. I don't mean to make light of your situation. All I can say is you are good people and good people get through. I will pray for you and your family. Good things will come.

Thank you. As far as I am concerned we did it then we can do it again. It was just a little deflating and I left it till the morning to go over the budget to see where we can cut back and make changes to hopefully live off only unemployment for a while and not touch what little we had saved back up. Luckily I had paid off most of our bills. The only none house bill at moment is a medical one and an orthodontist for the braces we are living with on my 11 year old.

I'm sorry to hear the news. I understand how stressful it is. My boyfriend has been laid off twice by great jobs that just eventually crumbled. He's always been the one to bring in the main money because my lack of experience has left me only able to get temp/seasonal jobs or crappy part time jobs. It's getting real rough out there. I hope your husband will be able to get a new job soon.

His main concern is finding a job that works with his school schedule. He has 8 months of school left and we will make sure he finishes so that this time next year we will hopefully be getting him not only a new job but one where he earns more money.
