Man is unique in his power of expressing his thoughts through speech which has differentiated him from other animals apart from his intelligence he can boast of. Man can express himself not only by his behaviour but also by the words he can speak out which no other animal is able to do. Do you agree?

I agree 50%. To tell the truth women still are more unique in terms of speech. They could go on for hours talking and they make good teachers. What is admirable to men is their ability to control their mouth.

COWBOY: I've seen no evidence of this. Both men & women can run off at the mouth. OR be silent.

The way in which man communicates is unique. All animals can communicate. In their own way! And, yes, I think he can communicate by his behaviour as well. Sure I can agree to that. I don't however agree that no other animal is able to communicate in the same way. I have seen several primates who can make the same expressions and movements as man does.

I am not so sure that the human species is unique in this. The Humpback Whale's communications vocalizations are much more complex than are humans. It has been speculated that if an alien species were to visit us that they would, after analyzing speech patterns, contact Humpbacks since the complexity of their vocalizations reflected the greatest intelligence on the planet.

It may be so that Humpback Whale's communications vocalizations are much more complex than those of humans, but they definitely cannot speak like us.

I actually don't really think that this is the truth. I think that other animals are able to communicate within their species just as effectively as human beings are able to do. The reason that we don't tend to acknowledge this fact is because we are not able to understand what the animals are saying. However, I know that they communicate because I don't think that they would make noise if they were not talking in some way.

I think that man hs a great advantage over the other beings of this world. His ability to communicate and get his point across and conversate with others is something that would be hard to beat.@DoctorDidi (7018)

It is no doubt a great advantage but it often also causes sound pollution.

I don't think so. There are many ways to express yourself. I don't like to look for the power of others by speech.

Whilst it is true that many animals communicate with various degrees of sophistication we should no confuse such communication with language. Language differs from other communication in several ways, amongst which are that it is only intelligibly to those that have learnt it, that that any word is not rigidly fixed to that which it designates and that it can designate abstract concepts

Well, science has found that certain breeds of parrots actually understand much of what they say. Granted, their vocabulary is limited, & granted that the human brain is wired to speak, but that science has shown that certain species, while not equipped to form words, still understand quite a bit of human language, then my answer must be no.
I believe it's not unique to humans, & that others can understand, if not speak it, so it's just a matter of degree, not of kind.

Its not that communication is unique to humans its just that our communication is the most complex.Communication allows a species to cooperate other species communicate and cooperate such as insects like bees or ants. However we communicate on a deeper level, our communication isn't purely about survival and finding a mate so our genes survive. Our communication is on topics such as philosophy and science and other worthwhile topics allowing us to improve as a species.

of course we are.humans are higher in thinking and behavior than animals.that is why i hate it when some people say to somebody things like 'son of a pig'. but we are animals too.we have tendencies to lose our advantage when natural drives such as hunger and pain strike us.but let me ask you, what prompted you to start this discussion?are you a philosophy student?
