Went To The Dentist Today

and got the last implant and good grief! I'm in so much pain! Same amount of pain as I was the first time! The first time I was supposed to get all four put in but the one cracked my jaw bone so it had to be taken back out so the bone could heal and put back in later. Three took but the one didn't. Well it did today. The first time I had six stitches and today I have four. I know once I'm all healed and all, it'll be worth it but at the moment I'm in a lot of pain. I wish I could've kept all of my teeth but I couldn't because they caused me so much problems that I finally gave in and had all of my bottom teeth removed and got dentures. I still have about half of my upper teeth but with my history, I'm sure they'll eventually be removed too but I'm trying to keep them for as long as I can. I had promised an update on myself and my situation and this is one thing and there's a lot more to tell about and I will later when I'm feeling a bit better. Are you one of the lucky ones that still have all your teeth? If you are, take good care of them, brush them every day and see a dentist or you'll end up like me! Now I did take good care of my teeth like one should but they were weak. It's a hereditary thing since it runs in my family. But still, I tried my best but it just didn't work out.

I have all my teeth, but it isn't because I took such good care of them, tho I have faithfully gone to the dentist twice a year. Neither of my roommates have done that and both have had to have teeth pulled. Hope you get to feeling better VERY soon!

You must have good genetics in your family lines. Lucky you! I wish I did but oh well. I saw a dentist twice a year too but poor genetics took over. I'm better today although still in some pain but not like I was yesterday! I'm on the mend! lol

Ouch, sounds painful but worth it like you said. I would have all mine except when I was five, I fell and knocked out my two front baby teeth. My permanent teeth came in, but as I got older, I noticed my teeth were turning darker. The incident when I was little hurt the roots and the teeth became brittle. So I have a crown on one and a partial on the other. Now I have a couple others missing in the back, only because my husband doesn't understand that it is much more inexpensive to fill a small filling than to wait until I am crying in pain to see a dentist. Plus I have a couple root canals, (Ones that got saved,) waiting for a crown that may never happen..I should have had the dentist pull them, knowing I'll never seen him again until another tooth hurts me enough...

Girl! What is wrong with your husband? He should know better! Seeing a dentist and doing what needs doing saves your teeth! If I were you, I'd act like it was hurting so they'd be taken care of. I wouldn't lose my teeth for any man because they don't come back once they're gone. He's not the one who's losing them or has to wear dentures, YOU DO. Don't have your teeth pulled unless you have to! As for myself, I'm doing better today although still in pain but I'm better. I think it's due to rinsing with warm salt water. I know it's really good for our gums.

He has lost some himself due to not eating right or flossing, so he knows how bad it is, but what really ticks me off is he'll say things like, "I don't want you to loss any more teeth." And yet he doesn't help me...This is something I obviously I have to do myself and why I am taking college classes to get my degree..I can either get a job or maybe my book will become a best seller, either way, one of my first priorities is dental for my son and I...

I sure feel for ya. I do not have all of my original teeth either. Some fo the ones in the back are pulled out and gone. I try my best to take care of my teeth also but there is only so much you can do with the basic dental treatments.

Heck, there's only so much anybody can do with any dental treatment. I tried to keep all of my teeth but just couldn't and had had enough of all the shots, which hurt like hell! Being that I had to have a couple of shots in the front of my mouth and it happened two days ago, my mouth is STILL really sore. Enough already! lol Teeth pain and pain from the shots. Enough already!

Hi Jo! Actually I AM doing better today! Still have a little bit of pain but not as bad as yesterday and I think it's due to rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water. I know it's really good for our gums so I think it's working like a charm! Soon, it'll all be behind me. Thanks sweetie!

It does sound terribly painful Cats! As you say it will worth it once all the healing had taken place, you just have to endure until then. I hope it is going to get better sooner rather than later. I am fortunate to still have all my teeth. I have them cleaned by the dentist every six months and have been doing so for the last few years which is great because before that I was rather lazy when it came to going to the dentist! Hope you feel better Cats!

Hi Paula! It is really painful when it's first done and as you already know from my first discussion telling about the hell I went through the first time, this time wasn't as bad but worse than I expected it to be meaning, I didn't think I'd get stitches this time and certainly not four! He said he had to open me up so he could see the bone to be sure it had healed up from splitting the first time. Gee, thanks for telling me that ahead of time, ya know? Anyway, although I'm still in pain, I'm much better today than I was yesterday. I'm thinking it's probably due to the warm salt water that I've been rinsing out with. I know that's really good and healing for the gums.

Oh it does sound painful. In the end you will be pleased with the results. Tooth issues does not run in my family but it does in my boyfriends family. I do have all my teeth, and do try my best to maintain them healthy. Sometimes as you said no matter how well you maintain them they can decay and or have all sorts of issues. I am glad that you were proactive in resolving the issue because left un-taken care of leads to worse problems.

It is very painful at first but that's due to my bone didn't heal right after my teeth were pulled. Now it's all behind me and today I'm doing better than I was yesterday and I think it's due to rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water. Once I heal from this last implant, I know I'll love them as I did with just the three already put in.

Gee whiz Cats, I am so sorry your in pain. So happy for you that its all over with now. Hopefully you heal up quickly. You are so right about taking care of your teeth. I have always brushed them good, had no problems when I was younger. Even had dental insurance back then. Now that I am older, I have issues and no insurance. I wish I had gone regularly when I did have insurance, I probably wouldn't have the issues I have now. My big problem was I am so scared of the dentist, thats my biggest fear. Take care Cats.

Tell me about it Polly but I'm better today than I was yesterday so I'm on the mend! I think it's from the warm salt water that I've been rinsing with. It's so healing to the gums. I'm SO like you, I'm terrified of the dentist and it's why I've said I've had enough and had all my bottoms pulled. Enough drilling and filling and those damned painful shots! Now I get the gas first before they shoot me up with novacain and it doesn't hurt nearly as bad. I won't do anything dental without the gas anymore. We have a new dentist that does things without the needle to numb us. I want to check him out when my insurance kicks in again in October. He sounds right cool! You might want to try carecredit.com for they're wonderful in helping people get dental work done interest free for a certain amount of time depending on the cost. The higher the cost the longer the interest free will be.

I have a lot of my own teeth, and I have three bridges as well. I also have a gap on the back on one side. Mostly my teeth are in good shape.

I had a bridge but it's gone now. I do have a gap on my top in the back too and hoping that I can get an implant there. It'll have to wait till October though when my insurance kicks back in again.

Boy do I know the story! lol I've had all of that too but my teeth were so brittle that it didn't last for long. And thank you, I'm feeling better today than I was yesterday thanks to warm salt water. It's so healing to the gums.

hi catsanddogs wow implants. I always wondered if they were painful in getting them . A friend here has all implants and she said after the initial pain was over they were well worth it. I have a deplorable situation in my mouth as I have four crowns missing and some other dental work which needs doing and my only drawback is I cannot fork out the required five or six or seven hundred dollars at one time to have that all done.So my smile is a short one. I have a tiny tiny amount of dental insurance which amounts to paying for teeth cleaning and a lousy two hundred dollars covered on huge bills to replace crown and as theres not all that much tooth left in some places probably would need a bridge or two. here very few dentists will let you make payments. the greedyguts want a lump sum to do anything in your mouth. dentists bah hum,bug I am a dental scrooge. lol lol loll

They are painful when first getting them but they're well worth having. In my case, when I had my teeth pulled, I was suppose to go back in in about three months to get the implants but I didn't and waited a year later which was a huge mistake because my bone didn't heal right and that's what caused the pain I had the first time. I wouldn't have had it that bad had I gotten them in three months like I was told. We live and learn, don't we? If you don't have dental insurance, you might want to try carecredit.com for they're wonderful in helping people get dental work done interest free for a certain amount of time depending on the cost. i know what you mean. mine are also few and bad teeth because of a genetic gum disease my family has. most all of them end up loosing teeth when they get older. the worse part is, we often have beautiful teeth in my family and smiles. only to loose them over the gum disease. at least you will look good once its all over.

Same here bunnybon, same here. My family had nice pretty teeth before they went bad. All we can do is try to do right by them in hopes to keep them but when the genetics take over, what can you do? I'm feeling much better today than I did yesterday and I think it's due to the warm salt water that I've been rinsing with. It's so healing to the gums.

Hey MB, I think that problems with your teethe and the rest of your body has a great deal to do with heredity. It seems that the only thing we can do about it is go and let the dentist or doctor do something for you when you first notice that you have a problem. It's all about timing and if you wait too long it makes it much more difficult for to treat you and for you to heal. Now when i say you, I am talking in general and not about you because as you said, you have tried to take good care but the genes were in control. I'm just glad that the painful procedures are done and it is now healing time. Hope the pain ends soon. Love You, Leenie

Hey Leenie, I agree, it has a lot to do with genes and on my mom's side they didn't have great teeth and that's where my problem came from. I've been to the dentist in my young years and older years every 6 months faithfully and yet I still had problems. I'm feeling much better today although I still have pain, it's not like it was yesterday, thank God! I think it's due to rinsing my mouth out with warm salt water. I know it's very healing to the gums so maybe that's why I'm much better. Love you too sweetie!
