I almost slipped in toilet today

India
April 7, 2011 10:15am CST
Due to diabetic the nerves on soles of feet and fingers are damaged. When I touch something, it feels as if my fingers have soap over them. If I stand, my soles feel as if there is no grip on the floor. Today in toilet my feet almost slipped, I was able to hold a water tap, thus I was saved. I was so scared of another hip bone fracture. I got major fracture on acetabular of left hip in 1985, was bed ridden for 8 months; I had to wear a plaster cast from neck to toe for 3 months. If now I face a fracture, it will never heal up. The toilet has anti skid tiles on the floors. Did you ever face any accident, fracture? What about toilet floor, are they tiles or cement floor? Please respond. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

I suggest my friend to put some anti-slippery mat on the floor. If possible keep your toilet floor dry, by using rubber wiper on your floor especially after bath.Same case with my grandma she falls once from there, she get fractured on her waist thats makes her bed ridden for 2 years.

My home flooring has vitrified 2x2 tiles which will only slip if there is water. My toilet tiles are ceramic with a rough finish. So far so good. But I did have a road accident a pretty bad one from which I have now fully recovered.

But you need to wash them and put up for drying after each use and so you need to have atleast half a dozen of them.

I forgot to add that we have bath mats in the bath room for safety and supports to hold on to should there be an accident.

My mother had been having diabetic for nearly 20 years now. Due to her diabetic complications, she need to take extra care whenever she walk anywhere. She need to avoid slippery areas, since she had a hip bone fracture, a few years ago. So, we always makes sure that the toilet and kitchen areas are always dry. Because it is really sad to see her in pain due to the hip bone fracture. Hope you and your family will take good care always.

Same here, my mother still feel pain in her hip bone area whenever she walks too much. I want to help her solve her pain problem by asking her to use wheelchair to move around. But, she didn't like the idea, as she still prefer to walk around by her self.

Its good that you save yourself for accident. Sometimes we need to be careful also. I am sorry to hear about those accidents you have and bad experiences, just hope it wont happen again. Be careful next time you enter in your toilet. But in my case, I can say that for 29 yrs of living. I have not experience any accident. Thank you Lord. I am always been careful, now that I am practicing driving and will go in driving. I hope that I wont meet any accidents. I'll be careful. Where as in our toilet its all tiles but in the entrance door we have this mat to protect us from slipping if ever.

Well, due to being Diabetic I have a wound that will not heal. It seems like it starts to get better for a short bit, and then gets worse again, and in reality there is nothing no one wants to really do. I just know that as a Diabetic life is fragile and something we have to watch. Most people never understand or can relate unless they face it too.

hi Professor you and your wife have my deepest sympathies as a fellow diabetic . those who do not have diabetes and know so little about it do not really understand all we have to learn and know, and kind of have to put up. I used to never worry about falling but since I contacted diabetes n my mid fifties I have lost my sense of balance. The hip fracture you describe has always been my main fear. We also here at Gold crst have tile bathroom floors which are so scary for us whose sense] of balance is off. I am glad yours has non skid tiles. As you m ay recall I recently had a bad fall on the tiled floor just outside the elevator I was hurrying to take. I prayed to God when I sat u p dazed and bleeding please don't let me have broken my right hip or my knee.God it hurts so bad. and after x rays in the ER no fractures but my nose, really I think its a facial bone fracture as the soreness is above my nose. But I know I am so fortunate.OI am so sure that someone had spilled water there and my feet slipped on that and down I went. I am pretty well healed but still have pain in my right knee. oh do take care Professor I s ure do not want to hear of either of you getting a fracture in hip or leg hugs from hatley a fellow diabetes sufferer. t'

Hi. Professor2010. I am very sorry that this almost has happened to you. This is very scary, I must say! I have tile flooring on both of my bathroom floors. So, I have a strong grip on standing up. We used to live in an apartment last year and we did not have any carpet at all. I was so scared that one day, me or my kids would slip and fall. I was on edge all of the time, when they would run and walk fast in the apartment. I am glad that nothing bad happened to you at all. Stay safe and be very careful!

It is really fortunate that you are safe. Bathroom slips can lead to severe injuries in hip and head. I have never had one before because i am extra careful every time i am in the bathroom. I have heard some scary stories of people getting themselves injured in the bathroom. That is why i am so careful every time. Take Care of yourself.

THank God you didnt had an accident. But almost having it is already alarming because it might happen again. I experienced the same in our bathroom. We have kids in the house so i immediately bought an anti skid mat. I placed it under the shower so we could step on it while taking a bath. I also placed a mat near the door, outside of the tub where you step out. Also at the foot of the toilet. So far, it really helped a lot. Especially in the shower area. Water drains is the part where it is super slippery because it is where all the soap and sods collect and might not go down the drain entirely.

you should always be careful professor. Accidents are scary and it might harm you if that is your case. I have not experience such but i did slipped when i was 7 months pregnant with my second child. The floor was wet since my nephew spilled water over it and i didn't know and it is not obvious since we have linolium on the floor and i walked and slipped it is a good thing i was able to control it and i did not slipped hard. I immediately went to the doctor to see if my baby was harmed inside and with God's guidance, i was not. It is scary and the adrenaline rush is so heavy! do be careful always.

Dear professor, say a simple thanks to god that you are safe. This is a warning for you that you should take much care. Once I visited my cousin. her eight year old boy first time took bath all alone. it was a very big bath room. I went in to the bathroom as soon as the boy came out. as the water was spread all over the bathroom, i slipped there and fell down till lying position. I thought every of my bone had been broken. thanks God. Nothing happened to me.

Oh please be careful next time Professor. A fracture is not good for diabetics because as you said they never heal. What could have happened when all the while you anti-skid tiles?Maybe you were in a hurry. Don't be when you are at the toilet. It's a good thing you find yourself something to hold on.
