All H--l broke loose this morning!

I went to sleep last night worried about whether I would wake up on time to go to an appointment. I drank the contrast for a CT last night before I went to bed and I thought that was the end of it. I woke up at 4am to a loud gushing sound. I had a two-piece appliance on and I had such bad diarrhea that the bag actually separated! Not only did the bag fill up between midnight and 4am, but it overfilled! Now I can't go back to sleep because my bed is a mess and I got up and took a shower, but I still don't know why it happened! I don't remember having diarrhea like that any other time I drank the contrast for a CT. At times like this, I wish I had my own laundry facilities and that I wasn't living in a motel. I could have changed the bed and washed everything tonight/this morning. Now I have to wait until the cleaning staff gets here and have them bring me clean sheets. Oh well...

I'm sure other people have gone through the same thing at one time or another. I will ask the doctor about this when I see her on Monday. I'm pretty sure it was just the contrast because when I drank the other bottle of it today, I had pretty much the same kind of diarrhea but since I was awake I was able to clean it out before it got too full. I emptied three times in less than an hour and two of those times it was pretty full. It is no wonder I had a problem last night. I think I'm going to take a nap now. I'm so tire. Thanks for the response!

I drink whenever I can. Sometimes I realize that I am thirsty and by that time I know that I waited too long to drink.

That's a very pitiful situation leaving alone and no one at help when you need one. I hope you're ok now.

That's what happens when you live alone. For the most part things go ok for me. I am not totally an invalid so I don't need to be in a nursing home or anything like that. It is just a nuisance to have such things happen in the middle of the night. If I had been awake, I would have been able to keep the problem from happening because it would have happened again after I took the second bottle of contrast except that I relieved the pressure before it built up too much. I guess next time I have a CT, I should drink the contrast long before I go to sleep.

I am sorry that happened, it must be distressing. I wonder if they gave you a greater volume of contrast than you are supposed to have.

I got the same two bottles that I always got before the test. One the night before and one the morning of the exam. I also had severe diarrhea today, but since I was awake I was able to dump before I exploded. I think I am just reacting to it differently now than I did before.

The rest of the day has been uneventful. Now if I could break myself away from the computer and get a little rest...

Oh wow so sorry the contrast did not agree in your system. It can be that your immune system has changed and or you perhaps have developed an allergy to some of it's substance. I hope your stomach is not irritated by it now. Do let the testing people know what happen to make sure the effects of it is still working properly prior to the test. Yeah it has to be a pain to have to await for the cleaning people, don't worry some day you will get back to what you had and not have to await on them as you will hopefully some day have laundry faculty on site. Maybe I would suggest slowly request extra of everything. Like sheets, towels and anything they normally supply, just so this way you can change them and be able to get back to sleep for a while longer. Hope all goes well at your appointment today,

I hope that this doesn't happen to me again. When I found out that it was time to take the contrast, I told the lady at the desk what had happened last night and she said to let her know if I have a problem today. As far as requesting extra sheets, if I would have felt like it, I could have cleaned all the stuff stored on the second bed, but I was too lazy. I am done with my appointment and it wasn't supposed to start for another half an hour. Thanks for the response!

That is awful! Hopefully that doesn't happen again. That would be shocking to wake up like that and I bet it was embarrassing having to tell the cleaning staff.

That was embarrassing! I know now that if I have to drink that stuff again, I should do it much earlier so that I am awake for at least 3 hours in order to empty the bag at least once before going to sleep. I had to empty three or four times in about an hour within three hours of taking the second bottle of the stuff. At least I was awake and able to do it that time.

Hi daeckardt Sorry to hear about the problem with the contrast, a friend of mine who never suffered from diahorrea before had to have a temporary peg put in their stomach because of health issues, and they started to get really bad diarrhea, like you, they said it would just gush out ,their gp gave them some medication which has now helped,I think you need to mention what jhappened to you, to your doctor. All the best. jojo732

I agree. I will be at the cancer center today for the CT and when they access the port, I will tell the nurses and see if they will let the doctor know. I just hope that it never happens again. Usually I can get through the night without a problem. I told the cleaning lady, and I hope that she isn't too grossed out. Thanks for the comment!
