Kind of, sort of here in Minnesota. Still chilly but not too bad. This is the latest start for my flower beds and gardening ever. I laid down 10 bags of mulch and need about 15 more bags yet it seems. The area in this photo has Lilies, astillibies, Lily of the Valleys, Beebalm, seedums, and newly planted peppers also. Do you use mulch at all for a weewd barrier and water retainer and ground cover?

We had a frost warning last night, so I had to bring in my started plants..I don't use mulch, don't have the money and even if I did, it is cheaper to move it myself and I have no means of doing that..So I pull weeds the old fashion way, with my hands..lol

Catch it when it's on sale. This stuff is fairly good mulch and only $2 a bag so not costly at all. Plus some cities also have free mulch. But you have to haul it. If I had a truck or van I'd fill it full each year.

True. I use about 20 bags every 2 years or so. So it's $50 or more for me. I spend roughly $200 to $250 each year total for all the garden needs and plants etc. Most the products go to my wifes work for serving there. LOL.

Even at 2.00 a bag that adds up when it takes a lot of bags for my variety of gardens. I don't think my city has free mulch, if they do I don't know about it and even if I did, that is when I'd need a good pick up...Oh well, maybe since I am at least trying to get a degree, I can finally get a job to purchase some mulch for next year..:)

Hi Grandpa Bob
Well our calendar says it is Spring but I am sooo cold. It is so chilly still here. I remember all the fun while getting my garden ready. Sadly I don't own my house any longer so I have to relish and appreciate all your pictures and hold on to my memories.
Gosh I remember leaving work at 6pm and rushing to the garden centers at this time of year to begin all the mulch and prepping.
Enjoy Grandpa Bob and thanks so much for sharing the picture.

It's been a rough Spring here in Minnesota as well. We had snow on May 2nd. But the next 2 weeks look warm. Well, near normal, so it's safe to plant. I hope it is anyhow after the work I did today. HAHAHA! I usually have my mulch laid by mid April. Thank you as well for your time reading and responding and adding comments to the photos.

I am another one that can not afford mulch. I need to do something, though, as I get lost of grass and weeds. We have a compost pile and we also will lay down grass clippings to kill weeds and hold in the moisture.

The weed barrier is really cheap too. I got this 200 foot roll for under $20.
They have smaller rolls as well. 25 foot is the smallest I think.
