My wife sat outside watching me today doing this garden bed in the photo attatched. She had surgery Wed and still is not up to par. Anyhow, her watching made me even more tired afterwards. In this bed I dug out about 2 inches of dirt, laid down a layer of weed barrier near the top, then replaced the dirt with rougly 400 pounds (10 bags) of black top soil. All told it took about 3 hours as I took many small breaks due to my asthma etc. Plus I had to have my coffee in between as well. In this area I have green beans, green early cabbage, and Brocholli. I have sweet corn, tomatoes, and eggplant to plant yet is it. Time to rest for a couple days i think as far as gardening goes. Yeah right! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

You should take it easy for a while though! I know you probably want to get it done but believe it or not...it will get done even if you take a little break!

I can't wait to get my plants in the ground. Since this weekend is mother's day, I figure I'd save everyone money and trouble and just ask them to remove the wood where I want my garden..You think it'd work? If so, my garden will be planted by Sunday evening..:)

Each Mothers Day we usually go to my daughters and go to Pauhls a HUGE nursery to buy our tomatoes and whatever else we feel at the time. Hopefully my wife will be feeling better by then. Can't hurt to see if that'll work. LOL! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yeah you! We are planning to get more dirt this weekend so I can re plant my veggies that washed away during the flooding over the past two weeks. We flooded twice . My white onions though where too far away to get it and doing great as are the carrots, lettuces and radishes we planted in a box closer to the house. My potatoes are ready to go out but their box (we have a frame we refill with new compost each year washed away. We did get it back minus the dirt we had put in so that needs to be refilled. I also have Roma and yellow pear tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, lemon cucumbers, egg plant, bell peppers, butter crisp as well as butternut squashes and pumpkins all started from seed ready to go in. I love gardening Grandpa Bob!

Oh, I bought a six pack today. . . of pickling cukes. Looking forward to them as well. I got a couple of attractive planters at a reuse area in the winter. I am putting a lot of red, white and blue (purple) flowers in them.

Bummer. Luckily I live far enough away from the Mississippi that I am not in fear of flooding. I'm about 1 to 1 1/2 miles from the river. Plus my yard is sloped away from the house so that helps with standing water and heavy rainfalls. Good garden going for you it sounds. Good luck and happy eating. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I went out today and bought more plants and flowers. At this point everything is going into containers or a raised bed. Two years ago or maybe last year, my son helped me bring in about 600 pounds of soil to the one bed. I am really emphasizing tomatoes and peppers and my mouth is watering just to the thought of home made salsa, and bowls full of little bite sized goodness. I am planting some herbs as well. Give your wife a gentle hug from us.

LOL. I know what you mean. Gardening is some hard work. We finally got to go get our tomato plants and corn yesterday. We will get the garden tilled again this week and the plants in the ground finally if the weather cooperates.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of work! The weed barrier is a good idea, I had not thought of that. My little garden is overgrown with grass and weeks right now and I'm seriously considering not planting much at all this year--by the time it quits raining there will be so many weeds I won't have time to clear the space. I'm considering container gardening with just beans and peas. I'm just too tired this year to give it much effort. Rest up and rejuvenate! I look forward to seeing your garden's progress.

I got a 5 foot by 200 foot roll for $20 or so I think. More than enough. I'll have lots left for flower beds etc. That's if I ever feel up to it. LOL Our cold and snow up until May 2nd made me not want a garden. But then......... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Firstly who can blame you from being tired. After all the pictures thus far that I have seen, gee it is no wonder. You are doing quite a bit and so fast too. Coffee breaks are always great reasons to stop for a bit. I seriously doubt you will stop for a few days. You will peek out there and soon find, whoops this too has to be done kind of feeling. I think you are doing an awesome job, I have missed out for sure as it sounds like you have been doing this for so long, from what I see they way the others have responded. Wow I am visualizing the cool and great tasting salads you will be savoring sometime this summer. Thanks so much for sharing, it is always a pleasure to see the pictures.

Well, not really fast though. A normal healthy man could have it all done by now. But with my bronchial asthma I need breaks after a bit so I don't have an attack. It's supposed to rain Sat and Sun so I'll be taking a short break. Maybe. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Awesome stuff. May long weekend up here is usually the time to put in the gardens- I can hardly contain myself; I am too tempted to just go out and plant them regardless of how the weather is :D. I'm excited to try farming herbs this time, as well as planting much, much more produce- about 1/2-1 acre of land :D May your produce grow plentiful and tasty!
