Thanks To My German Shepherd Toby, My Cat Chopper Bit Me Bad!

Yesterday hubby and I got home from the dentist and the day before we had bought a new table and chair set because the old one had fallen apart and decided to enjoy it for a little while because the weather was really nice. I made a huge mistake and told hubby to let the two big dogs, Toby and Chloe out of the fence so they could enjoy a little bit of freedom while we're out to watch them. Well, our cats were out and hanging out with us too as they always do when we're outside and Chopper decides to get in my lap, which was fine. Toby and his obnoxious self ran up to me which scared the hell out of Chopper and he went ballistic on me. I tried to put him down before he clawed me but he got me and then bit me hard on my upper arm. Boy did that hurt!! Wow! Hubby comes out with two cups of coffee only to find me in a lot of pain. He runs back inside to get hydrogen peroxide and tissue and cleans my arm. We were really hoping that that would do the trick but this morning we noticed my arm was red all around the bite so we knew I had to see a doctor. Went to the doctor and he was really concerned because it is infected and prescribed some strong antibiotics. He marked the site with a pen and said that if the redness goes outside the inked area to go to the emergency room immediately because it's a very dangerous infection that I could either lose my arm or die from the infection. It's called cellulitis which is very very dangerous. I now have a fever and the redness has spread to the inked line. I'm SO hoping that the antibiotics will kick in and start kicking this infection in its butt! I SO don't want to go to the emergency room out of fear I'll be admitted.... AGAIN. I hate being in the hospital! I've been in so many times that I've lost count and just don't want to go because I just know I'll be admitted again. I WILL go if I have to but I sure as hell don't want to. *sigh Now I don't blame Chopper OR Toby, they were acting like a cat and a dog so I don't blame them one bit. I just wish Chopper wasn't in my lap at the time but hey, hind sight is 20/20 but, I'm not a psychic so to hell with hind sight! Have you ever gotten cellulitis? Did you know it's extremely dangerous? Another thing, I'm trying my best to get caught up on your discussions however, I may get even further behind. Please bear with me, I'll get caught up come hell or high water! lol All of you mean the world to me, just want you to know that! I will catch up eventually!

Wow, I don't know what cellulitis is, but it doesn't sound good..Is this from the cat's saliva or because the area got infected? Keep an eye on it, I never heard of a doctor drawing a line and saying it the redness crosses over to go to the hospital, so it must be something to really be cautious over. Take care, and get some rest so your body can fight this thing off...

Hi Jo! I won't say that I don't have a lot of bad things happen to me because I know it's true. I don't know why but I've had this black cloud hang over me for most of my life. I mean, I've had a lot of good things happen but it seems more bad than good. It's no wonder I'm depressed and have to take medication for depression. Go figure, huh? Anyway, I did have to go to the ER this afternoon because it was spreading up and down my arm. The doctor gave me some antibiotics by IV only for me to have an allergic reaction to it so they had to give me some benadryl which has made me so sleepy.... He wants me to take two different kinds of antibiotics for 10 days to be sure to get all strands of bacteria. Soooo I'm on the mend sweetie! I'm on the mend! Love and hugs to you too sweetie!!

Well, I didn't realize it was friday the 13th or I would've stayed home for sure! LOL But luckily, nothing went wrong, thank God! Well..... nothing that we couldn't handle, let's put it that way. *sigh We were at my parents washing a load of clothes and getting a shower plus hubby took our chihuahua Peanut to the vet to have blood work done because he has to be on Lasix for his lungs are filling up with fluid. Everything else we've tried isn't working. The reason we were at my parents washing clothes and getting showers is because the water in our well has become very muddy. Hubby thinks our well is collapsing. I hope that's not the case but dried up till it rains which is what it's doing now. Long story and I'll make a discussion about it either today or tomorrow.

I was told by a counselor of mine that she wanted to put me in a padded room so I could beat the sh!t out of the walls to get the anger of my past out of me. Seriously! This was years and years ago though and it never happened but what an idea! Well I had to go to the ER this afternoon because the infection was spreading up and down my arm. They gave me some antibiotics through an IV but then I had an allergic reaction to it and they had to give me some benadryl which made me so sleepy! Chomper, eh? LOL Naaaa I like Chopper better. LOL But the idea was a good one!

I so so sorry this happened to you. I have had cellulitis a couple of times but was able to heal it with antibiotics. There are different strains of bacteria which cause this infection: Cellulitis from a dog or cat bite or scratch may be caused by the Pasturella multocida bacteria, which has a very short incubation period of only four to 24 hours. http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/guide/cellulitis I shall pray that you get well soon.

No. I have not had any experience so far. But I do know that Cellulites is curable when the patient co-operates with the doctor and does what he says. I am sure your doctor will also suggest a tetanus dose as it is cat bite. If he does not then you could remind him. Give my regards to your pets. It is difficult to understand them sometimes.

I am sorry this is happening to you. I have not personally had cellulitis but have known people who have had it. It seems to recur once you have had it. It is very important to follow the doctor's advice perfectly. The people I have known have had it in their feet or legs and were supposed to stay off of their feet and elevate them, etc. Many refused to do this. Be good, do whatever the doctor says, and take care of yourself.

oh my gosh Cats do not hesitate to go if it does not stay in the doctors'marked circle. I know I hated to go to the ER too when I fell but seeing I could not stand on my right leg without screaming I did give up and went. Infections from animal bites are the pits and you are my dear mylot friend so do give in if you have too. Your doctor meant that the redness spreading will mean you have blood poisoning thats so painful and so dangerous too.I also hope the antibiotics will kick it in its butt too. Also lets all us mylotters send you some needed prayers that God will make those antibiotics really gang up on that infection and send it flying right out of your arm. I had cellulitis in my lower right leg a number of months back and heavy antibotics did the trick plus some prayers from my mylot friends too. Perla my friend here, a sweet Filippina lady old me when I came back from my one night in the hospital to get my blood sugar and dehydration stopped that she had prayed for me and I told her it really worked too.Cats for heavens sakes don't worry about our discussions now just get yourself all well and not infected anymore. My prayer I hope will be joined by others here.hugs from Hatley

Bless your heart Hatley! You're really having a time of it, aren't you? (We both are! lol) Oh gosh, life's trials makes us wonder sometimes, doesn't it? They say "What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger" and I wonder how much of that is true. Sweetheart, don't worry about me, I'll be alright! Seriously, I'll be ok. I'm a fighter and it's going to take a hell of a lot more than this to take me down! Lupus or no lupus, it's going to take a lot more than this to take me away from here! Thank you SO much for your prayers and for getting the others to join you!! You are a dear dear friend!! You're a treasure!!

I’ve had cellulitis before and it is darn painful! I got mine from a nick on my knee due to a shaving cut. Do you believe it? A small cut like that caused a huge infection which landed me in the emergency department to have it cleaned out and that was painful enough too! A course of antibiotics did the trick for me and all I have now is a scar to remind me. I too was told that if I had not taken care of it in time I could have lost my leg or got blood poisoning. Scary prospect...You did the right thing going to the doctor as soon as you did. I hope it is improving and that the meds are kicking in. You poor thing, it must be very sore! Hugs to you... You are right in not blaming the dog...

hi, i feel very sorry for u , i knw the pain when our own pet whom we love alot and care for it does such thing , its not purposely done activity. When they are fighting u went in the middle or by mistake it happened it might felt ur pain and it might had said sorry to u, if u noticed. I had cats so when there are two male cats for some or the other purpose they want a quarrel ,i went in the middle to stop and one which is blacky had bit my right hand palm just down to the right thumb finger , it was a terrible pain i cant even lift or move m y hand.My father brought Tincture i applied it and god knws the pain. After a week i was fine.I didnt go for any sort of medications. This happened some years back . Applying tincture is more painful it just does good to the wound , anyways if u feel u need consulatation with the doc then u take medications. i tried with my resistance and i dont take antibiotics frequently. In a very serious case we should not neglect the doctors prescriptions and suggestions. And as the pets are homely and not out side street ones u no need to worry.

Thank you for caring umabharti! You're very kind! I am on the mend now because I had to go to the ER this afternoon because the infection was spreading. I was given some antibiotics by IV and I had an allergic reaction to it and so they gave me a dose of benadryl to counter it and it worked but it also made me very sleepy.

I am so sorry that you had to go through that ordeal. I had a bad case of cellulitis before on my right index fingers. It got really big like a sausage that has just bursted and boy it was so awfully painful. I had to drink a lot of antibiotics and take an extra strong pain reliever. I also was a high risk loosing my arm because the infection has spread and the veins were no longer blue but red and the entire shoulder was so painful. Don't worry just do what your doc says so in no time it will heal. Mine did.

Ouch! My goodness! You really had a bad case of it, didn't you? I'm glad the doctors were able to kill the infection! You are one lucky gal, I can tell you that! I will follow the doctors orders, you can bet on that! This stuff is very dangerous and mean too but I'm meaner! LOL Even though I have lupus, I'm tougher and will beat it but I hope to do it soon too. Best wishes to you!
