In many countries in the world there are homeless people. I wonder how homeless people can be helped. In my home country there are some kitchens that give homeless people a free meal. There are a number of hostels where homeless people can stay if they need to. The problem is these hostels don't allow dogs and lots of homeless people have a dog. Recently a homeless man helped find myu daughter's lost shoe that had fallen off. How are homeless people helped in your home country? Have you got any ideas of how to help them? Why do you think some people end up homeless?

It's somewhat difficult to say, in my opinion. I know that there are shelters for them, at least where I live this seems to be the case. I still somewhat feel that there is just so much that we can do to help them. I think that for some it is probably a choice to live like this. In which case it can be difficult to do much. It's difficult to say.

I think the government should spend their money giving homeless people shelter instead of spending those corruption money for their luxury. Their primary purpose is to improve the country so why not get those people off of the streets. They should also plan some kind of training for them to get a stable, legal, and honest jobs.

I think your country already does very well for the homeless people. Here sometimes I can see the homeless people shelter under the bridge. Although it seems there are some places for them to live, however, I don't know where they are. I think the best solution may be offer them a job. So they can make a living by themselves. It will be a good method in a long term. I love China

Hi maxi, the homeless people of your country are fortunate enough that at least they have some shelters. But in India,Bangladesh and Pakistan the homeless people have no shelter. They sleep at night in the footpaths, railway stations, bus terminals or any abandoned place. There are many slums by the side of rail lines where many of them live. Many shelter less people are porters, rickshaw pullers or beggars. It is beyond your imagination how miserably they live. They born shelter less and die shelter less.

Maximax, about 10 years or so ago, I saw a young kid sleeping on the island that separates the road. He looked very cute. I regret not having had the courage to walk up and pick him and bring him back. That is simply not done here. But had I done that, many of my problems would have resolved. We have a lot of homeless people out here maximax. And people become indifferent to them becoz there are unscrupulous ones who make a fast buck portraying themselves to be homeless. I cant really help much, becoz some of them might be quite dangerous. But I do feel sorry for them, and once in a while I do give monies to the beggars.

In Malaysia, we have the charity home for those people who are homeless, there are people who will look for those peoples who are homeless and send them to the charity house, where they will provide foods and place for them to stay. Most of the homeless people here are having some metal problem or some old people where their children do not want to take care of them and just left them at the street.

I think the way our economy is right now it has made a lot of people lose their jobs and their homes and caused them to be homeless. Where I live there are soup kitchens where the homeless can go and eat. There are also shelters where the homeless can go and stay but they have to be in and out by a certain time each day and not everyone can stay. It's like first come first served. I think if more people would offer jobs to the homeless maybe there would be less people out there that are homeless. Some homeless people don't want to be helped though. My grandfather's brother used to be homeless and they tried to help him all the time and he didn't want to be helped. He ended up dieing homeless from drinking too much. It's very sad.

i believe that some people choose to be homeless and live that way. i believe the social networks that are out there do a fairly good job (at least where i live anyways).

A lot of homeless people are mentally ill. Some even choose to be on the streets probably in part because of mental illness. Some might just give up on life. A person has to have motivation to want to change you can't force them to. There was a TV show a few years ago where this filmmaker knew this homeless guy he had arranged for the homeless guy to find a huge sum of money (forgot how much)but it was a couple hundred thousand dollars. He documented it to see what this life changing amount of money would do for this homeless man. After buying some friends some things like a truck and other things He got an apartment but within a short amount of time he was right back to living on the street. He was so used to that lifestyle for so long no amount of money was able to change that. There will always be poor people some can find the motivation and resources to change, some can't. Help those who want to help themselves.

People end up homeless because of circumstances in their lives. Mostly because they can't find a job. But there are some who are homeless because they want to be. Some people enjoy the freedom of it. I have talked to quite a few homeless people here where I live and quite a few of them are living on the streets by choice. Some people don't want the responsibilities of having and paying for a home. My daughter and I run a house cleaning business and we collect clothing and blankets from our clients and we take them to the homeless. We go to an area in our downtown where the homeless hang out and we deliver right to them on the streets. The blankets go pretty quickly but the clothing takes a little longer to unload. Most of the homeless don't want a bunch of clothing as they have to take it with them where ever they go and it can be bothersome for them to lug them along. So we quite often end up with a lot of clothing we can't get rid of on the streets so we take the left overs to a woman's shelter and they distribute them. If we get children's clothing we don't try to give them away on the streets as most of the street people, thank goodness, are adults, so we give those to the woman's shelter also. But we don't get a lot of kid's clothes, mostly adult clothes.

Hi maximax, In our country, India there is rehabilitation centers for the homeless people. specially those victimized by communal violence. They get food stuff, medicine, schooling facilities, and security. Only after houses are built they are shifted to their own home. These camps regularly get the basic needs from the Govts. With the Govt's new policy every individual family. After settlement people go out for a daily wage earning.

We have a lot of squatters here in the Philippines and usually the homeless are those who were released from mental institutions. In a way it's hard to be homeless here because our government's not too strict with people just building a home, a shanty most of the time, where there's a vacant spot. Most of the time, they're referred to the social welfare department or when they ask for food, we give them leftover food or money. We don't really have a soup kitchen like in the US but I think that should be something some non-profit groups could start.

hi according to me the govt. should help them by building special rehabilitation centers for them..by providing them necessary food at low cost and clothes like blanket etc. the other most important step we can take to help the homeless guys is that we should make them to give their children the EDUCATION..which is the main cause(i.e. the education)here in my country there are lots of schools that teach without any fees...so they must send their children to school so that they can build a better future... the another way by which we can help them is by taking the help of the rich people...i.e. the rich ones should come forward and provide the homeless with shelter, food and clothes..i guess thts the best way we can help them..... taking it to ourself..we should save a part of our income or pocket-money to help the needy and the poor..take a resolution that i will save that part of my income for the poor and provide them with whatever i can..hope this helps thanks.

In our city, there are hostels and free meals offered too. There are also a special group of social workers working on individual cases. There was this one social worker who put together a soccer team for homeless people. They went to played in this world cup match for the homeless and won. The program has successfully helped some off the street and start a new life again. http://www.homelessworldcup.org/ As many homeless people remain so for long time because they have given up fighting. Bringing them together as a team gives them a change in the life style and become the first step towards returning to a normal life.
