Disappointing...

Well this is one of those days where I see another discussion, and it gives me an idea for one.
I'm a skating fan, and back in the early 90's a lot of the figure skaters were doing numbers to songs from the musical "Miss Saigon". I liked it a lot, so I went and bought the soundtrack, and I really liked it. And then, when Miss Saigon came to LA, I got tickets to go and see it.
I have to say that it was really disappointing, though I just cannot put my finger on why. Les Miserables, on the other hand, which I got to know the same way, was one of the best musicals I have ever seen. Really sad though.
So have you ever really anticipated something, only to be disappointed when you actually went?

Actually, I experienced the opposite, I go thinking it won't be good, only to see it was a lot better than I thought it would be...I am sorry you were disappointed, that can be a let down when you expect a better show..

My parents were always interested in the stage and I've seen many a stage show, including Miss Saigon.
I have seen some "road shows" and many on more permanent stages.
I will tell you that I saw Cats with my mother as a road show, while she had seen it on the New York stage.
She was VERY disappointed, the sound wasn't as good, and the sets weren't as good - they also left out a song she liked.
Now, I went to see Miss Saigon on the London stage without too many expectations, except I had heard the high point was the helicopter on the stage, and they delivered that! However, I didn't already know and love the songs and I honestly can't really remember any of them.
I've also never seen Les Mis, so I can't say I know those songs either.
I have seen Starlight Express, and it had 3 levels of race track while mom said the New York stage only had 2 levels. I saw Phantom in London as well, and actually I honestly can say I liked the movie better - sad huh? We got to see Sunset Blvd. there too, and I can see why it didn't do as well as most of his works, the movie there was better too... the ORIGINAL movie I mean!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you build up expectations and when a show fails to deliver, you are left feeling a bit cheated.
That's where I think I do pretty well with shows, I try to not have any expectations and then its generally all good...

All the time. Whenever I expected something to happen in a good way, always in an opposite. Disappointment is my last name I think. I can't change it, unless I got the superpower from the almighty God, otherwise, I just keep on stay this way. I can't do anything else. Disappointment, disappointment, that is our life.

Like somebody else said here, if you have expectations, sometimes you are going to be disappointed...

There have been some 3D movies I was eager to go see to sit there anxious for them to be over. Sad that you did not enjoy Miss Saigon, as I can certainly understand the disappointment.

yeah, i was really excited about going to see my in-laws for the first time. they say in science two different things can not happen at the same time. i can prove that wrong, for the first and last time i saw my in-laws. like a chimps tea party without the cuteness.

No that hasn't happened to me.. but I haven't been to a lot of things like that. I was lucky enough to have gone to Phantom of the Opera about 10 years ago.. I just wish I'd been more familiar with it before I went because it was sort of lost on me at the time.. but I still appreciate the fact I got to go.
I saw last night that the Lion King is coming to town in September. Tickets don't appear to be too expensive, so I might see about going to that.
Another one I'd really love to see is Beauty and the Beast. Maybe Wicked too since I read that book a few years ago.
Though in our situation I have to be really picky about what I want to spend the money on.. you know. It's not like I can spend that kind of money on something I doubt I'll enjoy. While I'd love to be able to see more broadway type plays and such.. it's just not in the budget at the moment.

I'd played Phantom quite a few times before I actually saw it. I'd love to go see Lion King, maybe Wicked...

That has happened to me a few times. It is usually movies that everyone has been raving about for too long before I get to go and see them. I think my expectations are usually too high because of all the rave reviews I’ve been hearing about the film. In hate it looking forward to something only to end up disappointed!

Oh yes, as recently as Goa trip. They promised the world to me on cruise...and we paid quite a bit for that. Whatever followed was pretty lousy. I mean they were so loud and noisy...we had to move so many times from our seats, and it was so dark all around in the night that the cruise was hardly fun..so no more cruises for vandy. :)

I'm a skating fan too - ha ha - didja know that? I think a lot of times when we are inspired by music, we create fantastic visions in our heads, so by the time we see the "real thing", it's not so fantastic. Kinda like reading a book before the movie - the movie tends to be "lacking". Most movie sequels will disappoint me (although I did like Terminator 2 much more than the first one - but we won't talk about "Arnold" today). I skated to I honestly haven't been to many musicals - and I've loved them all simply because it's a rare occasion that I go (I LOVED The Lion King!!!).

I don't get to go to a lot of plays and musicals anymore, unlike I was in college. So, I would only relate this to movies.
There have been a few that I was excited to see when I saw the trailers. Only to get disappointed when I actually sat down to watch the movie.
The last Indiana Jones comes to mind. Also Clash of the Titans, Alice in Wonderland, etc. etc.

They post the best stuff in the trailers, and then when you get there that was ALL the good stuff.

Hi Dawnald, I always expect big on some of my interests and finally end up with mess and disappointment
. Mostly it would be with my exploration at kitchen on trying new recipes i find on magazines. I expect it would turn out to be a great dinner, but finally i would see my family convincing me out for a dinner at restaurant
. Though disappointing but it would be a funny day for me.

I don't go to the movies often but I had won some passes in a contest so I went to several one Spring. One was Australia which had some big name stars like Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. It was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. There was all kinds of publicity and hype about it, but it was bad, way too long and only had two good things about it which where the parts played by unknown actors as a kid and an old man. Both Kidman and Jackman stunk.

Oh, my comment would not be about disappointment. ehehe I just want to share my experience with skating. I come from a tropical country. And we don't really have the chance to experience snow here. But the thing is, one of the Malls here have their Ice Skating area, we pay Php390.00 and experience skating. hehe :)
I was terrible at it. LOL. I'm such a loser on skating. haha I just can't find my balance I keep stumbling down. And my friends kept laughing at me. But I said to myself. At least I experienced it, after 24 years of existing here on earth.
Good for you there who have all the ice you need to learn skating...

Believe it or Not, it was a Garth Brooks concert. I was so excited to go and then when the concert started all I could think was he's better on TV. I must say, you must've seen a different . I "Miss Siagon" then I did. We went in the early 90s and absolutely, loved it. Sorry, to hear you were disappointed with it. Best Wishes!

Saw it in LA, don't know why I was so disappointed...
Say, maybe you saw a different Garth Brooks than the one on TV.
