Option of sending a short message with a friend request?

I am thinking it might clear things up to be able to send or get a short message with a friend request. If there was someone new that wanted to be friends because they enjoyed a discussion or thought you had and interesting profile, they could say so. If they were looking for referrals, they could state that too. This way everyone would know when the request was made what they might expect from their new friend. There have been a lot of times I have accepted new members and got spammed like crazy with referral links..and then there have probably been some that I haven't accepted because they had so many banners or only had discussion in the online money section. I always check the profiles now. I think there are other people on here that are looking for referrals or people to share them with..maybe it would make it easier for them too. Do you think a short message with a friend request would help clear things up? Do you think it would be helpful to both members if they knew upfront if they wanted discussions or referrals out of the new friendship?

Hi Jen Now this is odd because once a member did request me and I have no idea how he did this but he requested with a message that said my pigtails are cute. I though huh? how did the member know how to send a short message with the request. I searched and searched and am still puzzled on how he did this?? But yes it would be nice and I will tell you why. I get many, many requests for friends daily. While I do not know how to say no, I have well over 700 almost 800 friends now. I do not mind friending anyone because I came here with absolutely none. Though I never requested anyone the requests came pouring in. But recently I have taken a back as to who to accept right away. Reason is that many who do request have never interacted with me at all, while I cannot understand why request if they have no idea what I am like. After viewing their activity, I have recently left them in pending to see what they interaction is like because I have way too many already who NEVER comment back on their numerous discussions. So yes I would love to have that option as well because this way I too can reply back and say how come? lol

That is odd! I wonder if there is an option to send a message with a friend request and we just haven't seen it. I usually never request someone unless I have seen their participation either. I have alot of friends that never bother with me too. I have seen some that have never responded or started a discussion at all that have a load of friends. I check the profiles too. I know that if the only thing they have participated in online money or a load of banners..they are usually here for the referrals. Thanks for responding!

Hi GF Me too is in that category - "many who do request have never interacted with me at all" - I remember we started interacting beyond discussions much late... but when we did, I am quite happy to make find a great friend in you

I generally do not send FR requests as I have been very fortunate in being friended. The reason why I would like the option of asking how come is that I am amazed as to how many request me and we have NEVER interacted at all. In fact 99% of them I have never seen until the request. Though I understand some perhaps feel that because I am very active they can benefit from me being their referral, but I don't have an issue with spamming and can understand why anyone, especially when they NEVER comment back in their own discussions want to FR me. I don't usually complain about members not commenting back as you and I both know it is their loss, I will earn if I respond. However like I tell new members, take their time in friending because I will NOT, respond for the sake of earning, if I have no clue and or interest in the topic then how can I do as such. This later leads to be ignored and I can only imagine them feeling this way. Most do not listen and friend anyways. I can't contribute to things like cricket and in fact I have never heard of cricket until I became a member here. Hi thesis. And hugs to all

I think that's a real good idea, Jen. I have gotten leary of accepting new friends. i always look at their profile. I don't accept as many as i use to. If i do select them & they start out w/whatever i just go right back & delete them. Hope u have a great weekend. Hugs.

Hi, Jen That sounds like a good suggestion, why not, if myLot is willing to place in that kind of feature. I often wait and see if someone who requests friendship also contributes to the discussions and shows their motive to be here. If the motive is spamming, maybe they don´t start any discussions at all and I am very reluctant to approving their friendship. In cases like this, it may help to learn a little about the person who wants to be your friend.

I am reluctant too. I always check their profiles and recent activity before accpeting or requesting. I try to figure out if it's me or just the potential of making money off me. I think that it would help referral hunters find each other too. I bet it is frustrating for them to keep trying and being turned down or fussed at. Thanks for the response.

Another good idea, help the referral hunters find each others.. They could go there and join under each other in different sites and get referrals that way. I have done a bit of this kind of exchange in the past.

Some sites let you set up your personal security so that people who aren't on your friends list cannot send you personal messages. And alot of people don't state what they are really about anyway so even if they could could send a message with the FR wouldn't do much good. I really don't feel that in alot of situations it would clear this up.

There might still be some people that say one thing and then spam the fire out of you when you accept them. It has to be frustrating for people that are looking for refferals too though. They might be able to find people who want to participate with them versus wasting a ton of time on people who get mad about them sending them links. Thanks for the response.

Hi JenInTN That is an awesome idea and this is the way it should have been - in real world too when we start off with a friendship we at least ask "Hi, How are you?" instead of handing a message - which is plain and blank and appears on the mailbox with my icon. I would love to have this feature. Spammers will always exist on the Internet and I know this might make things some better for them - They can attach the report feature on the PMs too to make life easier for all of us who dislike spam, but then they are just a few in Number here and there are many more who would catch the appreciation and help in making great friends. When I would send out a FR I would definitely love to PM the "WHY" and also love recieving the same with the FR.

Me too! I like the idea of saying..I loved your discussion...or getting..hey I got some great sites to share...that way I would have a choice when it came to spam or not. I think it would make the request more personal and not so black and white like you said. Thanks for responding!

I was planning to clean up my friend's list now. Because I keep receiving messages on from some people who needs referrals. I don't say it's bad. I do send referral links but not without the person's consent. And Well, I merely hang around with mylot because of the discussions that are so entertaining. Not much on online earning section though. I love discussions about life and relationships most. Well, it's a tip for me to check the profiles first before approving the friend request. What you're suggesting would also be helpful though. Thanks.

Hi chuyins! I think it is very respectful of you to wait for consent or interest. There are a lot of people that just assume that it is what other members want and the truth is, I am here more for the friends and the discussions. I'm sure there are members that would love to share in the referrals and a message box would help those people find each other too. Thanks for responding.

I don't usually offer, as sometimes offering could be irritating too. So it's more on they ask of it and I gave it. But here in mylot I didn't send much referral links.I am not so much into promoting something here in mylot. I am more on enjoying discussions and it's responses.

A time or two I have had that box pop up for a short message, or I have received one. So obviously there is a potential there. Not sure where they came from or why they are not always an option.

Thanks ElicBxn! A message might at least give an idea. It wouldn't mean I wouldn't accept them, but at least I would be expecting it when they started spamming me. It might help them find what they are looking for too.

Yeah, I'd be more apt to accept them if they came in and said "I like cats too" or "I love science fiction, lets be friends!"

If they were looking for referrals? Referrals for where? We're already members so it couldn't be a referral to myLot? I, too, have often wished for a message box for requesting friends. Most all of the other sites have this. I think it has been proposed before but obviously not acted upon by the administration.

You are in charge of your friends lists, why not delete those you don't want or al least tturn off the notification button? Life is to short to have to deal with this on mylot, which is a time for enjoyment and fun.

You are very kind. There aren't that many people that do that though. I have a lot of people on my friends list that I haven't even heard from after their request. I also had a couple of pretty heavy spammers. I am thinking it might clear things up for everyone. You are a well respected member..you wouldn't need a "reason" per say..but maybe if I request someone, they might wonder why. Or if someone is very new. Thanks for the response.

It isn’t a bad idea Jen. Of course right now we cannot send a message to anyone unless they are a friend. I too have encountered spammers when I accepted their request for friendship; it is so disappointing to discover that all the other member wants is your money! I stopped accepting every request a long, long time ago. I always check profiles carefully before accepting.

Me too Paula. I check to see how they picked me and what kind of participation they have. Banners too. I know that we can share our banners but when they have a ton of banners with participation in solely the online money interest..that usually means they are goping to spam you..lol. Thanks for responding.

i sure think that might help. but you would likely still get some that would spam you. i always look at the profile and i just recently got one i ok'd only to have them spam me TWICE! the next day maybe you got the same request? of course their not my friend now.

Maybe..lol. It has been a while since I have been spammed a lot though. I always check their activity and profile. I know it is sometimes unfair to beginners who really want to be a part of the community, but a few have ruined it for all of them. There is a lot less chance to get accepted when people aren't sure their motives. I'm sure there will still be the sneaky spammers, but I bet they would be a lot less than the ones who just want to find other to share their referrals with. It might help them find others like them too. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

I was half-expecting mysD to be already in here. I see what you're saying. The same as in FB, where you could include a short message. I think that's a great idea. It would help weed out the spammers from those that really are good friends here.

Right..because people here who have been spammed by a few new friends usually become very funny about who they accept. It's not fair to the ones that want to be active and make friends. It's hard to determine sometimes..maybe an option like that would clear things up. I'm sure it would help the people looking for referrals too. Thanks for your opinion!

I didn't know that people would send friend requests just for the sole purpose of sending referral links. But it would really be great if we could send, say a 140 character message stating what we would want out of our friendship here at mylot. So far, I'm perfectly fine with the friends I got since they really start great discussions I can relate to and learn from.

Well...they are not supposed to use myLot that way..but there are people that do. I think that sharing links is ok as long as it's not in discussions nor an aggravation for the person getting them. I love my friends here too and they are great discussion starters. There is actually an option that a friend introduced to us on page one. Check it out. Maybe you can use it in the future. Thanks for the response.
