I've been snoop'n around the net for some crochet ideas and blog I happened upon had this neat spare tire cover made. The person/crochetingfool did an excellent job don't you agree?? http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ljBMkQrExtE/Tb8Yb6LC7SI/AAAAAAAAA1I/p_BzfrLFmmo/s1600/red%2Bcar%2Bcover.jpg I would just hate to see it get ruined from the elements.

From what I read they modified a pattern for a doily. Which would make sense if you find the right materials and hook size to guage it.

My girls are interested in it and of course with a craft like crochet it's quite a process to learn. Sadly my 5yo wants to try so desperatly but I cannot explain to her how to hold her yarn but show her and she doesn't understand how to hold it just yet. I used to make skeins of chains because I couldn't understand how to make a second row at the time.

Yeah, that makes sense. When I was just a kid, about 10 or so, my aunt taught me to crochet using those steel needles and the #10 cotton threads. I started by adding the little lacy edgings to pillow cases and bath towels. Can you imagine some kid doing that today?

Glad you thought so too! I don't think it would be as time consuming as covering a car ect. especially if you probably need to replace it say once a year give or take. I read further after posting this the pattern is on Ravelry.com so she can find it there.

Cool looking. I saw a picture once of an entire car covered with a pattern of granny squares. I thought the same thing, it would be a shame to ruin it.

I think I posted that picture too on here. I believe it was either a VW Bug or one of those Smart Cars. Perhaps they are able to remove the cover in bad weather or they used a more durable material than yarn to make it. You can find some thin nylon rope in bright colors that I would think would be just as easily used and more durable for such a project.

That is pretty amazing! I agree it would be bad to get it ruined from the elements, but I guess that was their intention. I would hope they would put a clear plastic cover over it for some protection.

That would be an excellent idea if they could locate a clear cover for the tire that way it would preserve their work and still show it off at the same time.

Hey that is pretty cool and nice looking. By the way I could use a new one as my very expensive one was swiped off my truck.
Sad on how people take what is not theirs and I am shocked to because this is a really great neighborhood and sadly it was on my truck for two years until 2 weeks ago.

I don't know what a person would of done with your one wheel outside of thinking of selling it or something else foolish as criminals often do.

I am learning slowly. I guess the intent was to perhaps steal the very expensive wheel attached. But unfortunately for them it has special locks that cannot be removed unless some tries to break it off, but guess they did not know that the dealer themselves can't break off that lock. lol *sad*

It is beautifully done, the fact that it is a very simple pattern makes it all the more interesting. The only pity is that with all the wear and tear it will probably get destroyed, though depending on the thread used it can be quite resistant. My cousin still has a sheet with a crochet trim which was made by her great-Grandmother as a child, the cloth is old and worn as is the trim but it is still intact. So who knows, the worst part is if it were stolen instead of the elements.
I just want to share some more little crochet things I found interesting

That looks really nice but I am sure it's something they don't expect to last very long, afterall the elements would have a field day with it, rain and snow especially. Not sure wind would do it any damage unless it was really really bad winds.
It's very cute and looked like it took quite a bit of time to do.

Possibly, isn't anything susceptable to being swiped if not nailed down?
