I had a job offer online and he's asking me to send him a copy of my resume and passport for him to know if i'm eligible to work for him. My question is, is it safe to do it? Thanks!

It's something hard to tell. Personally, I would not send it before being confirmed for the job, just to be sure for anything that may happen. In addition, the reason seems weak to me: "to know if i'm eligible to work for him". Your documents don't care at all for seeing if you are good or not at a job, he may instead ask about your abilities and experience like in every interview. Your identification would come into play only when you're already hired and he wants to build a record of who you are and all that. Mostly coming from something online, I would doubt about everything. I'm used to say that "if it's online, it's not a job, but if it's a job, it's not online"

i wouldn't do that. Only if you can take it to him in person just to show him. But don;t send a copy especially because you don't really know who this person is.

Personally I would be afraid to send a copy of my password to a person I don't know, and I think that you should do a lot of research about the company before you decide if you want to send a copy of your passport or not. It is possible that the job offer isn't real and that it is just a way to get your personal information, so I think that you should be very careful. Search the name of the company and see if there are any bad reviews or scam reports about the company.

Make sure the employer is credible. If he is, send him the copy of it. There are scam employers out there who might get a hold of your personal information and that's something you don't like to happen. They can use your information for fraud.

Every employer abroad requires valid passport but you need to verify if the job and the employer is legit. There are many many scams today with different strategy so you have to investigate every online transaction.

Hi shing2, I think you need to ensure looking for real job from eligible and legitimate job board website and always checking the offer came from..I have experience when my resume being published by one of the head hunter without my permissions..It's really annoying especially when people call me and I no nothing about the vacant job being offered..So I recommend you to always vigilant and check every time somebody ask you to share your identity online... have a nice day and happy mylotting my friend..

I wouldn't like to give out that kind of personal information on the internet. Ask yourself is this job in your country or state, i mean is it possible for you to apply in a store or office for your job so that you can meet the person face to face. If not and you are keen on this job and dont think its a scam ( it sets off all my scam alarms i have to admit) then i iwould blackout some details and copy over it so you are not just sending your passport details to someone who wants to reproduce it.
