Again I encountered a cobra!

China
June 11, 2011 9:23am CST
In spring of last year,I almost stepped on quite a big cobra while I was walking home from my grove (I have told you in one of my previous discussions). But just 2 hour ago,I confronted another cobra again in my kitchen! My wife went to Nanning early this morning,so the whole day I just had rice porridge for meals since it's so hot. After finishing my supper I carried the rice cooker into the kitchen when I heard a kind of long-lost whiffing sound.I glanced ahead on the right. My!A cobra of a thumb size was sliding away whiffing continuously!I think it must have been so scared by my walking that it had to slide away in a hurry. But then it's my turn getting frightened! If I had stepped on it,what would happen?Little had I thought there was a cobra in my kitchen! To be on the safe side,I got a bamboo pole to move aside all the sondries to find the snake and hit it till it didn't raise its very oblate head.I felt relaxed now. Some minutes later,I wanted to put the "dead" snake into a small plastic bag.As I used a short little bamboo pole to lift the snake,it raised its oblate head again! But thanked goodness,it didn't attack me!... I've survived twice in front of a cobra,I hope I'll never encounter cobras again,I don't have the heart to kill them, and I never want them to bite me.Thank God,and thank cobras!

OMG! I do not know what I would do if I saw a cobra - let alone had one in my house!! I cannot believe you didn't have the heart to kill it! yikes! I do not kill snakes that are not poisonous as they pose no danger to me or my children. Plus they eat other annoying critters, like rats! So there is some benefit.. but I have no hesitation at all killing a poisonous snake!! But I hit it in the head - then cut the head off. If the head is not detached I always assume it's still alive. I have seen most kinds of poisonous snakes we have here in the US and had no fear, caution - but no fear! But a cobra!! wow... glad you are okay!!

I mean I absolutely hate snake. I can't even watch them on tv. I was tell my husband shut that thing off or change the channel. Just think the move in a slithering motion. Now the word slither to me even sound creepy. Don't you think? Best Wishes!

I would hate to have to kill them too but, hey, a cobra can bite pretty good can't they. I am so mezmerized by the guys that play the flutey thing and make the cobra dance. Oh my goodness. I don't want to be that close to one. I saw a black snake in the grass as I came out of a restroom at a stop off when I was traveling down south some years ago and I nearly lost my voice screaming. It was just a small water snake and I felt silly. They do scare me terribly though. I don't see them where I live. Thank goodness.

Oh,I think if you a snake-dancer,sometimes you can feel pretty good when you are bitten!I'm not a snake-dancer,so I dare not enjoy the biting of that kind, and I know how a cobra can be led to dance, either. Yes,a snake always scares us especially those who never see snakes no matter if it's poisonous or not.

Oh my! You are very brave! I didn't know cobras were found in China. India yes, but China too? I live in the middle of America in a rural area. When I was a child my father would take me on hikes in the woods and help me learn all the plants and animals. I knew how to identify poisonous from non poisonous snakes early in life. I used to gather little 'garden snakes' in the spring and put them in a gunny sack for keepsakes. Needless to say, my mother did not like that. One day when I was about ten, a snake called a 'blue racer' chased me. They move fast! And so did I. Another time I was camping with my mother and step father at about age 12, I awoke to a feeling of pressure on my legs. There was a large 'black snake' about five foot long laid across my legs quietly. I spoke loudly to wake my mother, she came to my side and screamed and the snake move off me and left. As an adult, I've found venemous copperhead snakes in my washer, under my daughters bed and on my front porch. I did not try to remove them, I let my husband do that! I once stepped right over a diamond back rattler while hiking along a dry creek bed. It was between two rocks. My son in law and daughter were about six feet behind me and cried out for me to stop! But I had already stepped over it and moved on. It was sounding its warning after they yelled. I did get a bit worried over that one, as I never even saw it there. I do not try to kill venemous snakes as I am worried about loosing the battle. But I am not afraid of non venemous snakes. My second son had a boa and I used to handle it a lot. I am glad you won over the cobra!

Yes,here in Guangxi of the south China, cobras live in the waste places outside. Oh,you are a snake expert! When I was ten,I was scared away from the vegetible garden by a big cobra! Haha, the snake was so friendly to you and slept so well with you but it never harmed you!My mum ever found a green snake at the end of my bed when I was about 5 years old. Two years ago,I saw a small cobra of the little finger size in my grove. Wow,you were very lucky, the rattler didn't attack you. As uasual,we always attack a shake as long as we meet one.But the chance of facing a big poison snake is very few now. From now on I'll never begin a battle to a cobra,I think.

Oh my six Second time and thankfully you are okay. Wow try what ever you do not see a third, oh my goodness, I think if I encountered one I would be eaten alive. lol I think it has to do with you working in the fields that you are able to think smartly in a situation as this. I would not want to confront, kill and or be in front of one ever. Too scared.

Hi,girl! If you encountered a boa,I'm sure you would be eaten alive because boas love swollowing females. In fact I saw a smaller cobra in my grove two years ago and I killed it,too. And the cobra that I encountered in my kitchen is the third one that I killed. I won't want to confront such a poisonous snake next time,or I'll not be that lucky as before.God bless me!

Very frightening. I don't want to encounter any kind of snakes. I am still lucky I haven't seen or encountered one. I don't know what to do if ever, I will surely die if I will see one.

It would be bad enough to encounter one outside, but in your kitchen??? That would be scary! I hope that you don't have that happen again. I wouldn't want to run into one anywhere. Not so much that I'm worried about bites, but I just don't like snakes in general no matter how small they are. Have a great weekend!!!

Why did you hit that small snake? Okay it can kill you but there are special tools to capture a snake. Buy something like that, because now you can be convicted for hurting an animal! And yes you can go to jail for that! If you encounter a snake, try to catch it in a safe way and release it somewhere else safely. That's the best thing you can do for yourself and the snake.

I'm so glad that you love animals so much.I know that cobras are protected in China, but in fact snakes are always bought and sold in the street here in my town and many places of my country. And as usual,we always kill a snake instead of catching as long as we meet it.

It was a near thing!Fortunately, your wife was not at home,or else she was terribly frightened for sure.I have never encountered a cobra in person and have seen it on Tv before. Its neck can expand several times thicker than usual when It is infuriated. It is a sort of frightful poisonous snake.

Yes,if my wife saw it,she would not cook in the kitchen any longer. So I haven't told her about the cobra though she's home now.I don't want her to feel fearful.

That would be very scary. I'm glad that you didn't get bit.It seems like you handled it good since you were able to get it out of your house. I'm glad that cobra snakes are nowhere in the stater where I live.Snakes rarely get in peoples houses too. My sister had lots of snakes get in a house she had one time which was scary. Her daughter had to stay at my house until they got all of the snakes out of her house.

Do cobras never live in the United Stats?I know there are many rattlers. I guess your sister used to breed snakes,or why did so many snakes come into her house?

In my native culture men are not allowed to scream, but immediately I see a snake which are the small black one's I just forget the culture and run away shouting like a little baby. I hate snakes and the way I continue hating them the more I encounter with them.

I'm not a snake fan, but I wouldn't want to harm them. I would probably freak out if I saw a cobra, I've only ever seen them at zoos. I've had experience with rattle snakes, copper heads, coral snakes, and water moccasins, which I guess could be close to a cobra (seeing as they're all poisonous and can kill you and cause tissue damage). You're lucky you didn't get bit. Young venomous snakes often excrete too much venom because they don't know any better. You could have ended up in the hospital for quite some time. I'm all creeped out thinking about this now. I don't know how I'll sleep tonight :x

Hi,lady!I don't like any snakes but I've really encountered a poisonous ones so many times and at last I survived. So I don't want to encounter any poisonous snakes so closely later and won't kill them any more. Haha, there's never a cobra in your home and you don't have to get so frightened,my friend.Did you have a great sleep that night?

I'm curilus. Why did you end your naration with "Thank God, and thank Cobras." I understand thanking God, but why thank cobras. Were you thanking them for not biting you, or is this just an Indian expression?

Since snakes are animals to live on the earth,we don't have to kill them as long as they don't harm us.In fact snakes have become rarer and rarer here in my country.

Those who have experienced living in forest are will just smile to read this. In summer season its natural that the snakes creep inside homes, seeking perhaps something cool. We find them coiled under the bed They crawl up even to the attic to catch insects and rats, People leave them aloof until it does its work and it gets out. But it is also common that people leave free the snakes to get out by hissing. yes there are quite a lot who kill the snake for the fear that at any time one may stumble upon a snake and get into trouble. Those who have highest regard for the snakes and those who care for echo balance may not harm the snakes. Whether to kill the snake or not? There is no dogma. But one has to safeguard his safety.

Yes,I could see that a snake used to get into the kitchen of my old house to look for rats or others for food when I was a kid,and we usually left it aloof. Hehe,as a child I was almost stumbled by a black snake while I was feeding a cattle outside! But it slid away fast in a hurry and didn't harm me,that's my first time to encounter a snake closely! I'll be very, very careful of snakes later, and never kill any as possible as I can.

Wow! that is incredible! i scream when a little spider walks across the room! What a fantasticly scary thing to happen. in the UK the worst thing would be a wasp sting. where are you living that a cobra can come in your kitchen? i think instead of a dog or cat you might want a mongoose!

I'm afraid of spiders and wasps, too. I live in my village, and the surroudings behind my kitchen are rather waste since I haven't grown vegetibles there these two years so that a cobra came inside. In fact both snakes and mongeese are much fewer, and the snake-capturers have become more and more.

Hehe, this is a very commen countryside kitchen, and it's too waste there behind it because I am always busy with my grove without planting any vegetibles as before,I think that's the reason that I encountered the cobra.
