When do you rate your discussions?

I notice some of mylotters will put a discussion on and never seem to rate it. I sometimes wander on to a discussion and notice its been sitting there for months with no best response. Does rating your discussions assist you in a higher rating on mylot? Just curious what everyone knows about this. While I tend to go back and rate mine if I see activity still forming on that discussion I tend to wait a bit longer, but I think its awesome when I get a notice in my email that someone has marked me best response. That makes me want to return the favor and try to mark my discussions as well. How about you? Do you just start discussions and never look back or do you genuinely take the time to go back and read what others have said and mark a best response?

Rating and marking Best Response are two different matters. On my discussions I rate each responses/comment when I am commenting. I then award the Best Response much much later if there is only one that is worthy of it. If there are more than one that deserve it then I don't award it at all. I have started very few discussions but most of them have many pages of responses and rarely is there just one response that deserves it. When there is then it will receive it but a long time after I started the topic as many topics receive responses for a long time after I first posted them and the Best Response could ocme much later too.

Hi Mom! We almost share the same thoughts on this. I believe that rating positive comments on your discussion is your own way of expressing your "gratitude" to that person who took time and responded to your post. The best response award must only be given to those who deserves it, as you have mentioned, but sometimes, it's really hard to decide, don't you think? Before I mark someone as best response, I always make sure that I always play fair. I don't want to base my decisions on best response just because he / she my close friend in MyLot or something.. Ya know what I mean?

hi marie, There is difference in rating others & selecting best responses as already explained by mysd. As per me i rarely give negative rating to any response & give positive rating to responses if i like & find that its good. I have not started many discussions but if started i have not selected best response instantly but waited till i observed that i am not getting more responses on my created discussion. When find out that now no new responses i am not getting i check the responses & select BR.

I SHOULD, but I seldom do, I know, I'm bad, but I just can't seem to get interested in doing it!

I usually respond more than start discussions. The few that I did start, I would wait a week or two to pick the best response. My thinking is that there may be more responses, so one of them might be the best. I have responded to a few discussions that have already picked a BR even though the discussion was just started. I always wonder why the people do that so soon

Hi marie: Honestly I think it's difficult specially when people give you some really interesting answers. I rate almost all the answers that people give me as possitive just because they have made an effort and they try to answer my questions and share their own point of views. I only rate them negative when they just want to create controversy or they are insulting which is an odd case. Now, in relation with the best answer, I wait until I have 20 responses to find what's the best answer. This is totally subjective, specially when there is more than just an answer that you like. In case I don't have this amount of answers I give the best response award after a month. ALVARO

Thank you for simply explaining how you do your rating on both levels. I just happened to be on some discussions somehow that were a year old, while browsing and saw no best response was ever made. that made me think to start this discussion. Unfortuantely I confused mylotters between the rating and best response. As I read each discussion and reply of course I rate them. But while its easy to start new discussions I had just wondered how many come back and finish their whole discussion by best response. You have a wonderful day.

Hi marie, As mysdianait explains above there are differences with rating and best responses, therefore please review that there. As for me, when I start a discussion, I generally rate at the time that I am commenting, because I am right then reading the response and this way I don't have to re-review later to if it warrants a rate or not, because the topic is fresh on my mind. Anything neutral remains neutral. As for best response, since I do not start very many discussions it is not hard for me to remember something that was outstanding and or very well contributing upon receiving the response. Therefore, I don't find it difficult to select one. I don't select the best response right away, simply because my discussions have been loads of pages and come in daily therefore, I usually wait ample time and decide when it is right. If ever I felt there was more then one BR I would definitely assure the positive is given to those and select one. I can say that in a years time here, I have looked back many of times at my discussions because even though I have selected a BR responses have still come in and I do comment back to them. I certainly feel as you that it is awesome to receive the BR and am always grateful.

I start so few discussions these days, that I tend to forget to rate them.

Thanks for bringing this up. Maybe you will get people responding a bit for a while at least. I know I tend to be a bit lax. Some times I rate things quite a bit. Other times I let things go for a long time. That isn't fair to anyone. I realize we all have time constraints, but we can throw a few responses in now and then.

I currently have a lot of discussions I need to go in and rate. I don't know if you get extra, but when you rate someone else it does affect their rating. I think it is probably good to wait at least a week or two before going in and rating a discussion because otherwise you may miss a response that was even better than something that was posted the first day. I should probably go in and do that pretty soon. Thanks for the reminder! Have a great week!!!

Well rating your own discussion will only deem that you are seeking an active response from others and also get better viewership.I think the whole idea is to keep the discussion live!!

Hello Marie, as i know, Mylot suggest people to wait as much as possible, to read good and to reread every response later, so the one who started the discussion to choose Best Response with the thought it was more reasonable, original, creative and helpful. I by myself pick best response easy - that's the response which touch me really much at the moment. Rating system is also something good. It is nice reward for all of us, who try hard to reach what we want to

I always rate the discussions or comment I read in my lot. Rate and mark as a best response are not same. Marking positive is not mean it take you to near mark of best response. "Mark as a best response" can be done only by the discussion starter. If the discussion opener think that a particular response give a solution to the questions or topics, s/he can mark as a best response to it. Normally, most mylotters wait 1 or 2 months to mark it to attract more participation to his or her discussion. Once the discussion starter marked as best response to a particular person or discussion, others mylotters loose interest to comment on that thread I guess. Because, the discussion starter got a solution to his or her questions or discussion. Many mylotters also get confused to mark as a best response because so many people give good solution or nice answers in a discussion thread. Therefore, they sometimes avoid marking the best response as more than one best responses are available. Positive(+) or negative(-) or report abuse (!) marking can affect your mylot reputation or earnings. Hope you get your answer marie2052 :-) Happy Mylotting :-)

I always rate the comments from other mylotters, especially when I am the one who initiated the discussion. The comment thread following my comment will also be rated, even if I am not the one who initiated the discussion.
