Not literally! He is basically a good guy. He had one problem and that the love of shooting off fireworks and other homemade bangers! Yup...they scare the living daylights out of you. Earlier I was walking into the kitchen and Bam!!!!! I bet I jumped a couple of inches in the air...there was also a flash with it! I am sure until after the 4th I'll have many moments of getting the beegeevers scared out of me. Fireworks by the way in our state is illegal! Is fireworks in your state legal? Do you have pesty neighbors who love shooting off these big bangers?

Oh yeah. I have neighbors who do stuff like this all of the time, not just part of the year. they have no respect for us at all. We work nights and they know it. We try to sleep during the day but they don't care. They will make every noise possible.

Hi Jill, Fireworks are not illegal in the UK although it is illegal to sell them to minors. It is the animals that get so scared of them and feel they should only be used on Fireworks night in organized displays myself and not all yar round which seems to be the case these days. If they scared you and his seems as you say a reasonable maybe have a quiet word with him and also say that they are illegal in your state and would rather he didn't let them off especially without any warning to you. Huggles. Ellie :D

Oh that is annoying. Setting off fireworks in the city limit is illegal here. I often wonder why they are allowed to be sold to the public when you basically cannot set off fireworks unless you are some big organization that is hosting a celebration. We all know that the law will be broken, just no one cares. No one really cares until someone gets hurt. I wouldn't want to handle them. With my luck I'd set myself on fire.

People in my neighborhood have been setting them off randomly for the last few weeks. The other night at around 1 am I heard a few going off. I don't think it is even legal for them to set them off inside the city limits. That does not stop people though.

If my partying neighbors set them off, I am calling the cops. They threw gasoline on a fire in a fire pit. Scary people sometimes.

Thanks I don't have any neighbors like him.
Fireworks are not allowed here in our place unless there is a very special occasion and they need to get some permission from authorities (municipal/barangay)
Fireworks only favors during X-mas and New year, nobody ever complained (even if we don't like it due to smokes that made me cough and the smell ohhh)
I am afraid to light one either,it scares me really

Only on Bonfire (Guy Fawke's) Night which is November 5th. I have noticed that people tend to go for the very loud banger fireworks now instead of the pretty, colourful ones that hardly make any noise!
I know what you mean about them making me jump. I can't see their attraction can you?
Also, Hallowe'en has overtaken Bonfire Night as a more popular er, celebration and we've the Yanks to thank for that.
Personally, I prefer Bonfire Night as Hallowe'en has gone far too commercial with the costumes, etc. The rest of the year kids are told to keep away from strangers but on Hallowe'en, well, all that goes out the window for the Trick or Treating thing.
What a strange country this is at times!

Well, I live in the Reservation area so Fireworks of any sort are allowed around here as there is nothing that a Cop can do to Stop it. Last night was quite noisey around here, and today is officially the 4th. I will be at work tonight but am sure some of the noise will still be happening at 1 a.m. or so when I get home. Hoping it can be gone in a couple of days though as it is Loud.

Oops, sorry I am so slow in responding. Found this discussion buried in my email. Last year we had fireworks exploding around our house from March to July. It was so annoying because it would happen as I was about to fall asleep. I saw a horrible accident when I was a kid so I am deathly afraid of the big ones. Fireworks of any kind are illegal where we live. However not all parts of Missouri ban fireworks. Our daughter lives about 20 min. from us and they are legal in her area. So it varies from county to county.

That sounds like my husband..Though he has not been setting them off all the time, he did set this really loud one off when my daughter's b/f was here..
(Before he said he won't set them off until the other neighbors did, but I guess daughter's b/f made it okay) Some guys are like this because when they were younger, it wasn't illegal and it was a bonding thing with their dad..Unfortunately some never consider to find a more safer bonding method for their own children..

They're illegal around here, though it doesn't stop people from shooting them off. It doesn't really scare me when it happens, probably because I always know what the noise is.

Hi jill! Unfortunately we have the same problem where I live! They have
already been "practicing" this weekend and I also have jumped out of my
chair! I don't think that it's illegal exactly in NY, but I'm not sure.
I know that there are definitely rules as to what you can have and can't~
They shoot them all over my neighborhood and some land way to close to
the rooftops which worries me, even though the Fire Department is right
down the street! I must say though is that all I have to do is look
out my window or go outside, take a walk and I seem some "serious
firework displays". The may not be "Grucci (NY's Main Firework Display)
but, the are pretty damn good for non-professionals! If only they didn't
scare the crap out of me and my cats!

I'm not certain if I would classify your neighbor as a "good guy." I view with suspicion anyone whose hobbies involve playing with illegal, dangerous, and annoyingly loud objects. But, then, I'm a picky one...
There are a variety of fireworks that are legal here in this state, and they are set off at just about every holiday. Thankfully, our immediate neighbors don't seem too interested in blowing stuff up as part of their holiday festivities.

The other night, one of our brilliant wonders on the next block decided to shoot some fireworks off at 12.23 AM!! That is the middle of the night. I was sooo angry, had I figured out the house that was doing it, they would have had an earful from me. I have 3 neighbors who have to get up pretty early, one at 3 am, and the other 2 around 5am. That is just beyond rude and obnoxious. Certain fireworks are illegal in our state, but that does not stop them from lighting them.
I think our city should ban them, as they are dangerous and people misuse them. They began lighting them off around the first part of June, whenever they got their hands on the fireworks. It is annoying. On the weekend of the 4th I do not mind it, but for practically the whole of summer there is a constant bang boom from somewhere nearby.

I wonder where the money comes from as well. They are a bit pricey, and I could certainly think of a couple of things around the house that need fixing rather than waste my money on fireworks!

I don't have neighbors who love shooting off those fireworks and it's not illegal in my province at all. HOwever i do have a neighbor who makes an equally loud noise and that's her voice. She's one hell of a nagger and would shout at the top of her lungs fighting with her adult children and husband. She does this quite often and her voice is very irritating. She has one daughter with the same annoying voice and also speaks loud it would wake your spirits up while you're sleeping.

We are very restricted as to where and when fireworks can be set off. Unfortunately they shoot them off anyway. We had a couple go off Sunday afternoon that were so loud that my neighbor the new police officer and my neighbor the Natural Gas Employee went out to check our neighborhood and make sure it was not something else. If they are illegal, how does he get away with it?

They know he is doing it and I talked to another neighbor....well he has so many health issues they don't want him in jail for a minor incident.....Last night though...he wasn't the only one doing it....I could hear it from down the street too! Can't wait until the 4th is over....I'll be on vacation while they all blow of the rest of theirs.

My husband has PTSD from his time served in vietnam. This would cause him to go over the edge. There may be others in your area with similar problems. I suggest you call the cops.

They've already started with the noise makers here. Why can't they wait until the 4th? And how do they have all of that money to spend on the mess? These things are not inexpensive.
The cops can't go after and arrest everyone who is popping them off as they would have too much to do. So they just ignore the complaints I think. So making it illegal is of no consequence.
The noise scares the cat and dog and I have to be constantly soothing and reassuring them that they are not in danger.
