For the perfectionists....

For those of you out there who are perfectionists like me and have a hard time forgiving (others or even yourself), I'd like to share one of my favorite lines from the movie "Mary and Max". How do you like these lines? Anyone else a fan of this movie? Do you realize that we're not perfect or do you have a hard time accepting this?
"The reason I forgive you
is because you are not perfect.
You are imperfect, and so am l.
All humans are imperfect,
even the man outside my apartment
who litters.
When I was young,
I wanted to be anybody but myself.
Dr Bernard Hazelhof said
if I was on a desert island
then I would have to get used
to my own company
just me and the coconuts.
He said I would have to accept myself,
my warts and all,
and that we don't get to choose
our warts.
They are a part of us
and we have to live with them.
We can, however, choose our friends
and I am glad I have chosen you.
Dr Bernard Hazelhof also said
that everyone's lives
are like a very long sidewalk.
Some are well paved.
Others, like mine,
have cracks, banana skins
and cigarette butts.
Your sidewalk is like mine
but probably not as many cracks.
Hopefully, one day
our sidewalks will meet
and we can share
a can of condensed milk."

I've read the lines and I really like them. Yes, I realize that we are not perfect and if someone pretend to be perfect is just a vain person. That's not god in any way. I find it hard to forgive the imperfections of others because many times I don't see my own shortcommings. I try to be aware of them and learn to accept them too. I haven't seen the film but it could be a good idea to see it.

The doctor makes alot of sense. You and the coconuts. That makes alot of sense. The 'lines' were very meaningful. Why would you want to be anyone but yourself? That is sad. Nobody is perfect. And you work from there. I am not big on condensed milk by itself. Now in fudge or potato soup it is devine.

It is delicious. Just cut some potatoes(two to three good sized ones) to bite size. Book in just enough water to cover them. Pour off about half when they are tender to a fork. Pour in about half a can of condensed milk. Add about one to two tablespoons of worchestershire sauce. Let it cook awhile and thicken abit. Just before you serve it put in afew teaspoons of butter. Have it with biscuits, sourdough bread or whatever you like and it is very good.

Well, spoken i Brooklynese, "ain't nobody perfect." I just that I would throw that in there. No one is perfect, if we were life would be real boring. There would be no competition and all the interaction would be like robotic.

I don't think I've ever heard of the movie Mary and Max. And I don't quite understand where the condensed milk came from. =P
But I really like the beginning of this quote.
The reason I forgive you is because you are not perfect. You are imperfect, and so am I.
It's accepting not only that you are not perfect, but also that I am not perfect. And that I can make mistakes just like you. So if I think I deserve to be forgiven, then you too deserve it.

I love this quote :) Its really great! I've never really been a perfectionist but obviously there are parts about myself that I don't like or aren't happy with. I think what we must remember is that no one is perfect but we can always strive to be the best person we can possibly be. Once we have done that, then we can accept ourselves with all our imperfections as well.
