My daughter will be doing her first horse show soon and I am very excited for her. I think that she is going to be very busy and nervous, but I think that she will do okay. She has an 8 year old paint horse that she is going to be showing. Have you ever done a show and if so how did it turn out for you?

I haven't done any horse shows, I've taken some pictures at a couple but it's not really that usual here. I used to do some show jumping when I was a teenager, and I still do dressage. I've rid only one competition in the last 2 years but I plan to start again at some point.

She would like to do dressage at some time. I think that she is enjoying learning different things about horses and different ways of showing. I think that she will mainly show in western pleasure. She done well in her halter class and her showmanship class considering that it was her first time in the ring.

I agree with you. She doesn't really know much about dressage, but she would like to learn. She also is talking about learning to run barrels.

Congrats to her! First time is always a bit scary :-) Competition are a good way to meet other horse people too, at least here (especially in the lower classes), the social aspect is as important as the competition. Cheering for eachother and commenting on horses :-)
I used to do some show jumping but never really liked it so I settled for dressage. It's not point in jumping when you close your eyes before every fence!

Sorry to hear that you didn't like it. I hope that she does. I know that it is a lot of work but it shows discipline too.

I have never owned a horse to do something like that with. I think it would have been fun when I was younger though.

I hope that she has fun and learns a little bit. I really don't care if she doesn't win as it will be her first show. I am hoping to get her into some other shows this fall as well.

Oh..I bet that is exciting! I think she will do great too. I have never been in a show like that and neither has my daughters. My oldest daughter used to be in the cheerleading competitions and she would be a nervous wreck...she had the back flips and the tuck parts of the routines and she was always worried about falling...she never did..lost footing a little a couple of times but no big deal.
Great luck with the show!

Thanks I will let you all know how it turns out. Her best friend is also showing so it should be a lot of fun for them.

i took my horse ricochet to his first show back in august i have shown before but it was my horses first show it did not go the way i would have hoped for it to go haha when we got there he was so nervous and he kept calling out to the other horses i finally got him saddled up and went into the ring to warm up and he was afraid of the loudspeaker he shyed away from it everytime we had to pass it i entered him into a green english pleasure class and he just bolted around the ring the judge asked me to dismount and step out of the ring so we did not hurt anyone another girls trainer came up to me and said i was awefully brave for trying to ride such a crazy horse
