US citizens, how long do you have to be working before....

Well I got an interview, and of course I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch, there's a chance I wouldn't get hired, but if I do how long does one need to be working before an apartment usually will approve you for living there? that sounds weird I know but let me reiterate. I know there's some sort of a time process if I'm not mistaken, wherein apartment managers and companies will not let you move in unless you've worked a set number of months at the same job. I will have to wait anyway because I won't have the money for a deposit yet, but I was wondering if anyone can fill me in. It's been awhile since I've been apartment hunting.

It can vary from landlord to landlord, but usually what they are interested in background and or credit check. They do want to know the source of income to make sure that one can pay the rent. With the way the economy dropped in the recent months I think it is easier these days to be approved for apartments as a lot of landlords need to pay their mortgages. Like GG, stated above, I too have done mystery apartment shops and was not asked about my source of income but did require background check and credit checks. I do hope you get the job and a new apartment too.

I really hope that I get it too as I need the money and I want to be out on my own. Having my own apartment would definitely be very beneficial to me. I've just gotta pray and hope that I can get something.

I have been unemployed for over a year, and pray desperately daily as I might have to move out South and really do not want to. I will include you in my prayers as I know how you feel. I will pray too that you get both a job and a place of you own.

I am not sure how it works in your State but here in California an apartment looks into your credit so they see how money you have in the bank, your credit score and also your income. This should be most likely for 3 months as many understand things are tough. But if you have a bad credit score well then it might be a lot harder to find an apartment as you are deemed a risky investment.

My credit score is really good so that won't be the hindrance. I know I've had to have a credit report done on me from apartments a few years ago and I imagine it's the same. The county I live in now doesn't provide oh what's it called, section 8 housing but davie might and if they do... well if I could qualify that is...

It has been a long while since I have lived in an apartment. When my kids moved to another state, they did not have a waiting period, but they did have a background check and credit check. I recently did a mystery shop of an income based apartment complex, and they did not say anything about length of employment, and I even told them I was on unemployment. Some may require that, so I guess you would just have to wait and see. Save up that deposit. This one only requires a $200 deposit, even though the rent is over $500 per month. I am glad you got an interview.

I imagine the deposit I'd be looking at is $125.00 or around that as the specific apartments I am talking about are $425.00 for a studio apartment. I may call and talk to them tomorrow provided I feel I did really good on the interview.

it depends where you want to rent i would guess. most of them need some kind of proof of your income, so something like your first paycheck. so if that were the case then it would be around 2-4 weeks after you get hired. of course, some may need to see 2-3 paychecks so it would just depend on how long it would take to get those. like others have said, your credit rating also does hold a part when renting from management owned rental places. what you can do is rent out personally from a private owner and they might be able to show some leniency.

most of them just check your cedit other than that not suure about how long on the job ya might have to tell like 3 months Just thinking I cant remeber them doing anything but doing a credit check if it was ok ya got to move in . If you have prblems with that find one that dont check any thing.

Well that's not as easy as you might think. There are only three apartment places in the county I would be working in. I really really need this job though and will do anything to keep it, that is if I get it.

I think it really varies from one apartment complex to another. The one we moved into here in the Phoenix area evidently didn't have any kind of wait time because my husband didn't have a job yet. All we had was a bank account that proved that we could pay the rent for three months, and a very good reference from the complex we were moving out of in Arkansas. We had never been late or had a bounced check etc....

I would think different apartments have different rules. Depends. You might find one that doesn't ask how long you have worked at the job. If they are a prominent apartment complex they should have a website and you could check it. Or just call thier office and ask and don't tell them who you are.
