cottage cheese

How do you enjoy a bowl of cottage cheese? Do you eat it plain? or add something fun to it? Or do you use it in other ways to add to other foods you enjoy like lasagna instead of ricotta cheese? I wish my kids would try this as the tubs they sell at Aldi are rather large and I never finish it all before it's forgotten. Though I've heard people say kids are always very fond of it because of the texture. My kids love dairy products and this is one I can't get them into.

I have never been fond of cottage cheese myself. I never buy it. Who would want to eat curdled milk? That may not be a totally accurate description of what it is, but that is how it looks. Too bad you can't get smaller containers. Maybe you can find recipes that use it. Have a great day!!!

I want to say at some point a company did make smaller conatiners, like yogurt size with fruit in it. But I'd hate to pay by the cup inflation to get smaller portion.

I don't know if dividing them into smaller containers would make that much difference because I'd be sealing them persay not the factory. I don't eat much of it, maybe a bowl a week or every other week if at all.

So how much of the stuff do you eat at a time? It seems like there should be a way to keep it from going bad without having to pay the higher price of single serving containers. Would you be able to open the package and put it into other smaller containers and seal those until use rather than leaving it in the original container? That might help it stay fresher longer since you wouldn't be opening the same container multiple times.

I love my cottage cheese with fruit. I buy frozen fruit and add it to the cottage cheese after I put it in the microwave for a couple minutes with a sprinkle of sugar on top. It makes the fruit have a bit of a sauce after microwaving it. I just add it to my bowl of cottage cheese and I have my breakfast or sometimes I will have it for dessert. I have had the same problem though, it goes old and I end up throwing some of it away before I get a chance to eat it all. So I now buy the smaller container rather than the huge one and I just go buy more when I run out. At least this way I am not throwing any away. I read the first page of responses to this discussion and someone mentioned that you can freeze it. I don't know about that but I am willing to give it a try. I hope it works because sometimes they put the cottage cheese on sale for really cheap because it is near the expiring date and then I would be able to buy a few and freeze them. Good luck and happy mylotting my friend, Chris

No I haven't. To be honest, I totally forgot all about this subject. I haven't bought any lately either, probably why I forgot about it, because the price has gone crazy again. Where I used to pay $3.49 for a large container, it is now $5.69 for the same size of container. So now I have to watch for the price to drop again or go on sale again. All our products seem to do this, sometimes they just go crazy with the prices and then they drop again. The same thing happens with coffee all the time. One day my jar of instant coffee will cost me $4.96 and the next day it can cost over $10 and two days later it can be down to $4.96 again. I don't get it. These days it seems to happen more and more often.

Did you try freezing it? The only problem with buying a smaller container is that it would cost me more at the regular grocery store than if I bought a larger container at Aldi for similar price or even less.

I think it may not be the looks so much as the texture. It's common with lil ones so why would it not bother someone who is older?

I don't eat cottage cheese on a regular basis, but I do eat it from time to time. My favorite way to eat it is to mix either some peaches or manadrin oranges into it. I like the combination of the fruity flavor combined with the creaminess of the cheese. My children will both eat cottage cheese as well, but they won't eat it as often as I eat it. I think part of that is because I don't always buy it on a regular basis.

I don't eat it regular as I mentioned because it doesn't always get eaten. Though since posting this my hubby has mentioned he likes eating it so that could solve things a wee bit.

I use to make my cottage cheese myself from milk bought from a farmer. We eat it very often. It's cheaper than buying it. When it's ready I cut all sorts of green leaves such as parsley, dill, basil and onion. I mix them with the cottage cheese and eat it on bread. It's very tasty from the aroma of the green leaves. It's healthy too.

Never thought to eat it on bread. I have heard of adding all the herbs to add some flavor to it.

I like to dip Nacho Cheese Dorritos into my cottage cheese it's so good! It's actually what I am eating at the moment. I have never really liked fruits in my cottage chese though.

I don't think I'd of ever thought about using dorrito's in my cottage cheese. But I guess one could think of it as a dip sorta

I like mine with canned peaches, or just alone. Cook with it, if you can't eat it all. Use it instead of other cheeses or yogurt. I can't think of too many ways to use it up because I never have any left over for long.

Blend it to sour cream consistency and add stuff to make a dip, like Ranch or French Onion Soup mix or herbs. For a sweet dip add fruit spread. I have a bread recipe that requires cottage cheese. I like it plain, or with fruit. I have always seen kids dislike the texture.

I have heard of people making a dip with it before, but I have never tried it myself. I have a potato recipe that calls for cottage cheese around here somewhere. It is wonderful.

I like to sprinkle mine with black pepper. Sometimes I will eat it with French Dressing and tomatoes too. My kids LOVE cottage cheese. Sometimes I have trouble getting any of it before they eat it all.

I think I've seasoned mine before too. You know there's just something about french dressing and tomatoes and nothing else (oh ok sometimes bacon bits & califlour) that's so yummy... I'll have to try tossing in some cottage cheese with it.

I love this product, I use it plain or with vegies and in many cooked things. It's great when fixed with jello and very pretty. It makes great dips also. I will add sweet or savory flavors to it for dips.

It's delicious when you mix in some strawberry jelly or jam...yummy. We have Aldi grocery stores in Germany, where are you?

Never thought about jelly or jam to add a lil flavoring to things. I'm in the USA and yes I know Aldi is based out of Germany. They are also said to be one of the biggest rivals to Wal-mart!

I love cottage cheese. I can eat it plain or with fruit. Usually I will eat it with cantalope (when in season), otherwise, with peaches or pinapple. I also add it to lasagna instead of ricotta cheese, and that is usually because I have so much of it on hand. My daughter does like cottage cheese, but the boys never did. Actually my oldest will gag if he even sees cottage cheese, however, he is lactose intolarant, so he stays away from dairy products.

I have added it it to lasagna and it's so good, yummy! I like eating it plain too but not mixed with fruit, thats just disgusting to me. It has to be 4% or at least not non-fat. Small curd is best but will eat any curd style. I have used it to loose weight in the past.

I prefer it with pineapples and not really plain. I although I do use the left over amounts when I cook my lasagna and or any type of ground beef casseroles.
