Is luck given to you or do you make it?

For me my good luck is given to me.I certainly didn't do Anything to deserve it or did I make things happen. Because if it were up to me , I wouldn't have any luck at all. I guess the Fates or the G-ds like my reaction to anything good. I always am so surprised Anything good has happened to me.So to me it is sorta strange when others say you make your own luck. I have to say no because if it were up to me and me alone I would have died by my own hand back in 1986! Your thoughts.

I think luck is a state of mind. It is the state wherein what you see, feel or hear is something positive and always bring about opportunity for you. Hence I believe that it is made by the mind and not given by others. You say you didn't do anything to make it happen but in reality you did something and that is you identified and considered it through thinking that it is luck indeed. Your mind worked to validate that what you got was indeed lucky. Hence you made the concept of what is lucky or not and therefore you are the one who made that luck. I hope I made my point in here. Just my two cents in here!

Luck can be mixed up with God looking out for you and yours I have experienced. Yes sometimes we can control our fate but does that mean it's luck? no it mean it was a delerberate contemplated actions that brought you your "luck" other wise it's coincedental to others and God.

I can't help but agree with you. I think it first of all depends on what you consider "luck" to be. I'm assuming you mean good fortune by the context in which you describe it. If that is the case, I certainly didn't make my own luck either! Last year I was given a car that was eight years newer than the one I was driving at the time. That was good fortune that happened to me without me even doing anything to deserve it. I believe there are two things in life that we can experience when it comes to luck. There is grace, which is when we're given things we don't deserve; and mercy is when God withholds things from us (bad things) that we do deserve. I believe when we have good luck and nice things happen to us, it's definitely grace and mercy at work. I'm certainly not complaining about my new car. I'm glad my grandparents found it in their heart to give it to me with no strings attached. I would've paid them for it, but the wouldn't take it. They just wanted to do something nice for me. I hope many more good things come to you as well!

Why thank you. For many years by the Grace of G-d I had things given to me and I was Always so surprised.Through His mercy I have missed out on many a thing , looking back and that is ok. I hope there are many more grace and mercy in your life too. Take Care.

I think we all need a bit of grace and mercy in our lives here and there, although we certainly don't deserve either. I'm glad those have kept you happy also!

I think it's both. There are lots of things around you that you can't control that are good or bad, but how you react to things, how you choose to respond has an impact too. I don't know what happened back in 1986, but you ended up choosing to live.

Thinking back I did choose life in 2005 but I always would think it I fail I can Always end things. I finally stopped thinking that way in 2009.

I get called out too, made to feel not normal, etc. Turns out I'm not so strange after all, you probably aren't either. At any rate I'm glad you hung in there....

I see it this way, some are lucky and some are not. Me? I have no luck at all and I don't see any in my future at all. When things happen to people, it is mostly the individual making things happen, it all comes down to attitude. Luck in my opinion comes from confidence. I was never a confident person myself and never thought much of myself. I always considered myself to be the outcast or the defect. I know, I was married, I know I have wonderful children and I know that I am with the love of my life, but that does not give me luck, it just gives me a reason to live. It's funny that you mention 1986. That was the year that the girl I am with now, left the neighborhood and I did not run into her until 2009. It's almost like we both had to live a certain life until out paths met again. I sometimes think that ever since 1986 I was searching for her on many levels.

Wow! That's uncanny. I never had confidence in myself either. But that's why I do believe in good luck. At my lowest point, I was Lucky to get help. Back in 1986 I thought life was over while your lady love left the neighborhood! Wow! But now we both are in a happier place! And I beg to differ. To find or re find love is being lucky!

I see it this way. if you and she had married when you were younger , you two may not Still be together. I think it was your good luck to find each other again. She is Better than the lottery isn't she?

I don't know about that, I think it was just meant to be for some reason. Luck to me is like winning the otter or for once in my life having something go my way. But I will survive somehow. Luck for me would have been able to be with my girl from back then. But like I had said once before, I see things totally different then the average person.

I think it is given to...some would call it favor or blessing. I know in my case I find myself in a good possession that I did not strive for. For example I seem to win in top five at many contests I did not put much spirit into. I am just left standing there going "huh?" I suppose that is far better than always losing though! My problem comes in maintaining that luck - I get going on something only to find my energy and luck dribbling away. It is my fault in that case.

I have read and heard that trying to keep positive energy helps a person to be lucky. But the way I see it, some people are just born lucky.

I have had both very good and bad luck so i think the answer is Yes i am a person of luck but this doesn't always mean that you have good fortunes coming your way sometimes you are picked out of so many to receive something terrible and you have to cope with it. I also think that karma does play a part in it.

It is all Karma for me. Not being a Hindu , I didn't think of Karma at first but it Does explain everything I was trying to ask and what I experience.

In this life of ours we find that some people are doing very good and some people are not doing good. When some people are successful in everything that they do then we say that they are very lucky and when we come across people who are failures in life or are not successful then we say that bad luck follows them everywhere.the fact is that this is not the only life that we, at present, are living. We have been through thousands of births before this life and will continue to be born and die for many births in the future. The people who we call lucky have done something very good in their previous births and are reaping the fruits of their good actions in the present life whereas the peole who fail constantly are people who have done something bad in some previous birth and are therefore reaping the fruits of their wrong actions in this life. This is known as the Law of Karma. Life is a mystery for most people but if you understand this simple rule then you will know why some persons are lucky and why some are not.

Nobody in this world is completely good or completely bad, that is why we see the mixed fortunes in everyones lives. From my personal experience i have had periods of goodluck as well as periods of badluck. At present i am going through some very bad times which started in 2008 and looks like continuing for some time. I fervently hope that it comes to an end soon.Pray for me,dear.

Heyya sarah! I think that it can be a bit of both sometimes. I certainly know that there were some really good things that have happened for me that I didn't "make" on my own. Where did it come from? Chance? Higher power? Karma? I dunno...but not by my hands either.

I guess I would defer to 'making my own luck'. I've always looked at myself as unlucky. If anything bad that could happen, it always happened to me. When everybody moves on, I would always be the one left behind. So, I had to make my own luck. So I wouldn't be stuck where I was, and so I could make a little bit of something out of myself.

I'm your opposite in a way. If I thought I had to make my own luck, I wouldn't be Anywhere.I would think if I do it on my own it will definitely F@ck up. But did I Always think I was lucky? No . It is when I look back , then I say Wow That was lucky. I guess being a pessimist it was hard to truly see how lucky I really was.

Luck is something that is given to you and what you make is called your "hard-work".I believe that we have a natural course to follow in life, something like a highway. But beyond this path exist other paths, such as short-cuts,U-turns and stops.

Well, I don't really believe in luck except when it'd maybe paired with winning the lottery or gambling or something on those lines. I do believe when you make something happen in your life and work for it, it's not luck because you worked for the outcome of whatever your goal was. By the way...if we associate luck as being good then there must be bad also. Hmmm...now I need to rethink my answer...

So Sarahruthbeth...Do you think you are here because of fate or luck? Or just maybe your will power to survive? Don't answer this fast...think about it first...

Luck is happened by chance but what matter is you had to be certain all the times by doing your best every time you do something besides there's no such thing as luck in the bible.

I think Mary was Lucky to be chosen as Jesus' Mom. Joan was chosen by fate to lead her Army . And Jonah was lucky not to die with the Whale. Abraham had great Karma to be So Lucky to Have Isaac! I see luck All through the Bible. On the Bad Side, Cain Got Scr@wed, Period!

Luck, blessings and opportunity are all out there waiting for us, but we have to be willing to accept what we are given, and we need to be prepared to take advantage of opportunities that cross our paths. Right now, I feel lucky, most of the time, but to look at my circumstances, I am not really. I do know that when just the right situation or opportunity comes along I am going to grab on to it and hold it for all I am worth.

If i didn't have bad luck I would not have any luck at all! Right now that is so true! I am somewhat depressed! I am becuase I am having money issues! Mostly because of that! I am always broke! I have to many bills! I don't have my part-time job money to fall back on! the more I make the more money is taken out for taxes! Inflation doesn't help and a lousey economy either! I am frustrated! Thanks to that and some other issues I am eating! I never seem to get that incontrol! I am not a happy camper right now!

Well,Well. I think luck is luck, pure luck. It does not change even if you make efforts. Some people think they can meke luck. They just cofuse the luck with reward. As a man sows, so he shall reape. Reward is not luck. Just imagine, if you buy a bottle of drink, It says" one more drink" on the bottle cap. Does it have something to do with your efforts. The answer is definitely "NO".

Well, I think that you can prepare your future, because you make actions with a purpose. This is called the law of cause and effect. But I think you can have luck in life too. You can fall in grace to a person who can help you positively in life. However it's good to take forecast for comming days and to try do the right things. By the way, I'll get "Sylvia" in two or three weeks. I let you know when I watch it.

i believe that people are considered to be lucky if they have positive outlook in life, use their intuition, act upon chance opportunities and they are happy person. whenever these people feel bad during that day they usually change their bad thoughts and frequency into a good one, the reason why turn bad luck into good luck. these people also think that they are luck magnet that is why luck is easy to come in their lives.

I do follow my gut, i.e. use my intuition, often. it takes some more good luck to make a bad day good. But a good luck magnet? No, that's not me.
