pizza toppings?

When you make pizza, do you buy specific foods intending to use them as toppings? I mostly use up ingredients I have in the fridge - half of a red pepper, some tomato sauce, bits of chicken? Sounds like a pizza to me! (Of course, I have to add cheese, but I think it's a good way to use up bits of food that I might otherwise have trouble incorporating into a meal).

If I buy the store brand Pizza's I like to put my own jalapenos, green peppers red peppers and I save those things when I order Pizza the crushed red pepper packets and add that on the top of my Pizza when it comes out of the oven. Yummy!! Now I would like a Pizza!! L.O.L.

I hardly ever make my own pizza. It never turns out right. I like to buy mine already made because of that reason.

oh! I haven't had any problems yet. I started out with really simple pizzas, just sauce and cheese, and then started experimenting. A couple of times I've let the dough rise too much or i haven't made the crust thin enough and it hasn't been as good, but it's been edible.

It depends on what is in the refrigerator, as certain foods my family won't eat on a pizza. Most of the time leftover vegetables go into a soup, as then my picky daughter is less likely to avoid eating them. She likes ham and pineapple on the pizza and that is all.

Lots of kids only like ham and pineapple on pizza, I guess because these are sweeter toppings. The funny thing is, while my husband isn't picky about what goes on a pizza, he is picky about what goes into soup. It has to be according to a recipe. Then again, he's the one who makes the soup, so I guess he can make what he likes.

Whenever I'm making a pizza, I like to just put on whatever I find that I have in the fridge at the time. I like to use BBQ sauce on the base instead of tomato sometimes as it adds a bit of variety to it. I like it when there is ham in the fridge and occasionally I will also fry some bacon to add to it as that makes it even tastier. I don't think that it really matters what goes on a pizza, and I often just pile everything that I have in my fridge onto the base. It always tastes very nice and I am actually wanting some now that I've started thinking about it.

That does sounds very nice. I sometimes mix barbeque sauce in with the tomato sauce for the base, it does add a nice smokiness and sweetness to the sauce.

I love making my own pizza too. Yeah, using food whatever is inside your fridge would be fine. As long as you have the main ingredients which is the pizza sauce and cheese then you can make a good pizza already whatever the toppings it will be.

I think so too! Good thing my son isn't old enough to be picky yet.

hi cutepenguin:) I like pizza too, but usually I like meaty overload toppings and I like it with lots of cheeses and thin crust, we usually order it because I don't know how to make my own pizza, but I wish I could so I could experiment more on toppings.

You could just buy one of those pizza crusts from the grocery store if you don't want to make your own dough. Then it's just a matter of choosing something as a sauce and choosing toppings. It's actually a lot of fun - I remember doing this as a teen when it was my turn to make dinner.

if we intend to make pizza at home then we buy the ingredients we want to eat for the toppings. but if my wife just wanted to make pizza because there are a lot of left overs on the fridge that can be pizza toppings. my son enjoys hotdogs and corn, not for me but yes kids has different choices than us adults. my wife has more veggies on her pizza than meat while i have more meat than veggies har har har. but of course we all enjoy cheese and extra cheese.

Plenty of cheese is a must have. Although if I have a lot of other toppings I might put less cheese on because there isn't as much space!

When I make my pizza I have all the same healthy ingredients as toppings. They are of course slices of green peppers, onions, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, pineapple tidbits, and lots of mozzarella cheese. Of course before taking a bit, chili sauce is added to add highlight to my healthy pizza. Hmmm! ever so yummy!

That sounds sooo good! And chili sauce is an interesting idea, I'll have to try that.

I love satay pizza. I tried it once in Pizza Hut but they don't make it anymore. If I make pizza myself, I love to have chicken, pepperoni, some peppers, onions and pineapples. I love parmesan cheese on them.

I haven't tried parmesan cheese on pizza - we mostly use cheddar or mozzarella. We like chicken, too. I'll fry it or grill it in barbeque sauce first, then put it on.

I like making my own dough because I pretend I work in a pizza place and try to spin it. Needless to say, it's a bit messy. We have it in spurts - some weeks we have it multiple times, at other times we can go awhile without making any.
