My sister took me to Utah on Wednesday for my niece's wedding. We stayed there until Saturday morning, the wedding being on Friday. Friday night we stayed in my niece's home and I got her bed. My niece has a cat that is beautiful, long hair with Siamese markings but she is not the friendliest cat in the world. I was really hurting after the wedding...so much so that I had to have a wheelchair brought in and my sisters had to help me in and out of the cars and up the stairs and such until I could get into my niece's bed. I lay there resting my fatigued muscles and letting the meds kick in, working on my computer the whole time. The cat wasn't too sure about me but seemed to get used to me being there. She even let me pet her a couple times without growling at me. Then it was time for sleep. I got out of bed and turned off the lights but when I tried to get back into bed...forget it! She had moved into the spot where I had lain and was crouched there spitting and growling at me like I was the ultimate evil in the world! I didn't want to risk being scratched so I threw the edge of the covers over her and she shot off that bed like greased lightning! The rest of the night and even in the morning before we left she never made another appearance! She knew I wasn't Mommy and she was not about to accept me sleeping in Mommy's bed! For my part, I about died laughing. I just thought it was hilarious! Cats are not usually so person oriented.

hi dear alaskanray I hope you enjoyed the wedding and the family time in spite of the fact you needed a wheelchair to cope with the pain that came in the package as well. Thanks for sharing that cat story with us. you know I cant give a feline companion a home yet but I enjoy reading cat stories for sure. Who is that lovely kitty in your avatar and how old is it on the pic??

Thank you, Ritter. I did enjoy my time with my family. My niece was very enthusiastically thrilled that I was able to come and my sisters were wonderfully supportive to me and understanding of my problems. I really felt the love on this trip. To answer your question, the baby kitten in my avatar is Chester. This was taken within days of his arrival in our family and he was a mere 4-5 weeks old. I am only estimating on his age because we found him outside, mewling and starving and nursed him back to a decent weight. He is still with us, two years old now, and quite the character. We love him very much.

its great that you enjoyed that special family reunion for your nieces wedding. And thanks for your info on that beautiful kitten. Its sure hard to get such a small one back to health which still would need his mom to feed him with 4-5 weeks.

If any breed is, it would be a Siamese. It took Scamp - a "black" Siamese - about 2 years before he let the roommate pet him, unless I held him, and he even scratched me a few times trying to escape.

Possibly. She has really soft long fur, a delight to stroke if she would just let me! I'll have to ask my niece about her breed.

LOL...well, this kitty isn't really Siamese, she just has seal point markings. She is a long hair and Siamese are short hair. I'm not sure of the breed but whatever it is, she is quite picky about whom she associates with. lol I just get a charge out of her Miss Prissyness attitude.

I've been a cat person all of my life. Cats can be very territorial. I thought that meant just areas that were theirs, but as I got older and really got into the habits of cats, I found that their owners were part of their territory as well. I've never had a cat that didn't like me, but I have a friend that has a cat that just won't be my friend. He hisses at me, he growls at me and will even go out of his way to not even look at me. If I am in the line of his sight he will completely move his head in an arch as he goes to look at his owner. He'll let me hand feed him his treats, but as soon as we are finished, he;ll hiss at me and stalk off to sit near him owner. We've come to an agreement. He agrees to keep disliking me...lol

That's so cute. Actually I really love cats because they are sweet compare to any other animals and they are more disciplined. However, they love to scratch and it really hurts.

I love cats, too, and have worked with strays a lot. Every cat has its own personality and sometimes they can surprise us. I am still laughing at my niece's cat, though. The whole incident was just too funny.

Yes the cat certainly knows you are not mommy, pets like dog, cats can remember their owner and other members, even friends who visit the house frequently, nice discussion Thanks for sharing Best of luck. Professor

They all have their own personalities, too, don't they? Most of my cats have always been very independent and okay to be left on their own or with a sitter. My niece's cat is very different from any of my cats.
