hello everyone, i learned that indians are observing and celebrating the birthday of God Krishna today. they call it Janmastami. am happy to learn hindu friends observe birthday of gods/goddesses. i guess, since there are many gods and goddessess, they observe many birthdays and then many celebrations.i heard too that some indians celebrate it with puja (pooja) and fasting. christians also celebrate birthday of Jesus Christ which is on December 25. we call it Christmas. it is the merriest celebration of the year. for filipinos, when there are birthdays, it is always a feast. we do pray for a while and then celebrate with food and drinks. how do you observe and celebrate birthdays of Gods? ann

I can't quite get used to the idea of gods having birthdays. That would mean they were born! So there must be mummy and daddy gods, and grandma and grandpa gods, and... No disrespect meant, and enjoy your celebrations!

hi peter, being in greece, i do not know what religion you have. but christians and hindus and muslims seems to have these kind of celebrations. i am not sure about buddhists and other religions. these gods do have family members, i guess. i can talk of Lord Jesus being born on earth through Papa Joseph and Mama Mary. thank you. have a nice day. ann

Yes, it's not actually birthday of God but rather birthdays of forms(avatar) of God. And yes like Tigeraunt said they do have parent and relatives :)

I celebrate this day by fasting till the supposed time of birth of Lord Krishna, that is midnight. We then break our fast by taking some fruits and home made sweets after worshiping etc.. After almost a day's fast one really feels purified in soul and body :) Thank you for starting a discussion about Janmashatami. :D

Sweety Yes today is birthday of God Krishna, we are celebrating it, my wife and daughter in law observed fasting since morning, no water even, now at 8pm they did the pooja, an idol of God Krishna as a baby was kept on a brass cradle fitted on a swing We all prayed, as I said i prayed for you, your hubby and your granddaughter Thea. We have many gods, goddesses, in my family we observe birthday of Rama, Ganesha, Hanuman to mention some. Thanks for this discussion. Best of luck. Professor
