Not my best lucky week

This kind of reminds me of a scene from "Notting Hill", where some of the characters are at a dinner party, and the person who tells the saddest story gets to have the last brownie.
Ok, my week wasn't THAT bad, but it wasn't great either.
I had two appointments I wanted to take care of in the morning. One was a blood test, and the other was an oil, lube and filter for my car. I wanted to take care of one before work one day, and the other before work the another day. But people at work kept scheduling early meetings.
The last straw was when somebody scheduled a daily 8:30 meeting for the next foreseeable future, so when I accepted the meeting invite on Wednesday, I replied back that I wasn't going to be able to make the first two meetings.
The blood test was just a routine follow up thing, but Wednesday morning when I checked my purse for the paperwork that the doctor's office had mailed to me, it wasn't there. So I couldn't go Wednesday. I checked my purse up one side and down the other, checked my car, checked my desk, when I got home I also checked my house. No papers. Doctor's office was still open, so I called and they said they'd fax it to the lab. OK so far.
I get to the lab the next morning, and the paperwork isn't there. Too early to call the doc, so I went into work with an ever so slightly grumpy look on my face. At 10 I call the doc and she faxes it again. This time, not wanting to make another wasted trip, I call the lab first. No paperwork. So I put the doc in touch with the lab and let them deal with each other. Doc's office calls back, says the fax isn't working, so she e-mailed it. Still not wanting to make a trip without confirmation that the papers are there, I call the lab back, but this time I have to leave a message. Lab calls back in a bit, and says still nothing, gives me an alternate e-mail address. At this point, I'm seriously wondering if I've somehow entered the twilight zone.
This time when I call the doctor's office, I give them not only the lab's e-mail address, but also mine. Five minutes later, as if nothing ever happened, the e-mail comes through, I open it and print the form. I go over to the lab, and they have also gotten this last copy. Go figger.
So Friday morning I go into the dealer for my pre-paid minor service. "Oh, and by the way, could you guys also check and see why it's running loud?" Uh oh, service rep informs me that because I don't have an appointment, they won't even be able to look at it until late afternoon.
Oh well, no big deal, I have to work anyway. Oh yeah, except the company lets everybody go early for the holiday weekend. Whoopee, everybody else leaves at 3, while I stay at work waiting for the call on the car.
At 5:00 I figure I might as well call. They close at 6 anyway, so I'm going to have to start walking over there soon. Service is finished, but they are just now diagnosing car, may have to keep it overnight.
Well, I am thrilled (not), as I was planning on taking the car to San Francisco the next day. "Oh, no problem," says the rep, "we can get you a rental." Yeah sure. A sedan, no doubt, which means that all 3 kids will have to sit together, no tv, no game cube, and hopefully they won't all kill each other. But what am I gonna do? I don't want to take it to SF if there's something seriously wrong with it.
So I walk over to the dealer, and that's when the phone rings. I've been waiting for 2 weeks for the dadgum Dr. to call about scheduling my procedure, and this is when they finally choose to call. So I sit myself down on a curb, pull out a pen and paper, get the information, and then continue walking.
I get to the dealer, and they have proceeded just far enough to determine that it's something with the transmission. Oh joyous rapture, another wonderful Dodge vehicle with transmission problems. At least this time I got the extended warranty, so I just have to pay a deductible. So they get me a rental, sure enough it's a sedan, and I go on my merry way, after taking my garage door opener out of my car, but forgetting my parking decal.
The next morning the phone rings while I'm banging on the piano. It's the dealer. Yep, it's something with the transmission, but they have the parts and can fix it today. Only I'm going to be in San Francisco, the rental will only be covered for that day, and how am I going to pick my car up?
Thankfully, instead of "tough luck, deal with it", the service rep offers to call me when the car is done, take my payment info over the phone, and leave the keys with the sales department. Also there is a drop box for the rental car keys. So, if they send me one of those "how did we do" surveys, she is going to get high marks.
So we go to San Francisco and see the California Academy of Sciences, very cool. Other than Cary complaining every 6 minutes that he wants to go home, and getting in his sisters' faces and ticking them off, it was a nice trip. At least until he pissed off Dearra in the car when she was trying to sleep, and she blindly took a poke at him, and got him in the stomach. Ohhhhh the fuss...
Anyway, we got back to town, and went to tank the rental. That's when we found out that it had an ethanol tank. So we had to find a place where we could tank it. Then I got my keys and my car and left the rental. Of course, that's when my car would not start. We had to have the dealer jump start it. I guess its 65,888 mile battery had had enough or something. So tomorrow I need to go get a battery. Sheesh.
Do I win the brownie?
PS I have also noticed that when I post discussions here at night from home, I NEVER make the digest. Boo hoo hoo

Dear God in heaven!
What a time you have had? It would make a good documentary or something. Well, drastic measures must be taken to alleviate the situation. I was just settling down to read a mystery thriller when I heard the ding of mail and so had to look as pc is on the bed beside me.
Do not fear as help is near. I will not wait for morning. I will go outside and beg one of the sleeping parrots that nest in a tree in my garden to wake up now. So hold on - help is coming in the form of rum and coconut water.
This too will pass

Boo hoo hoo is right. What a week you had! Looks like you win the brownie. I was put on another medication and I am actually feeling alittle better. Sleeping alot but that is to be expected at this point. I would love to see San Fransisco again. I was there twice many years ago. Love the architecture and feel of the place.

Hi, I have never made it to San Francisco. It will probably fall off the continent before I ever do. Glad you are feeling a little better.

I do not know what to say about all of this. Except that I hate jobs that schedule lots of meetings, and I hate disappearing paperwork. I am sorry your kids are none of them old enough to sit in the front and your car just wants to see how much it can stress you. There needs to be a special category in the digest for longest saddest story.

Yes, like Raz said, you deserve a tray of brownies..I also wonder if the emotions were left out of this or are you that calm? I would have been a basket case after the second failing of the lab getting the paperwork..I can't stand it when things go wrong like that and I don't know why..

Ummm, you really want me to answer that???
I would have probably rant and rave at anyone who was near me, or even if I was by myself, I would have babbled about it and possibly even let out a scream to relieve the stress..

That's horrible.. all of it. When it rains it pours, and from the sounds of it you could not catch a break this week.. just awful.
My week wasn't so terrible.. just busy. Saturday and Sunday was the start of our week long vacation. Hubby and I both took the week off work, though we had no major plans. Most of the weekend was spent doing not much of anything. FIL was home from the hospital so hubby was over there helping him out cause he wasn't doing too well. My oldest had soccer practice and all that fun stuff.
Monday we spent the day at the fair. That was fun and miserable at the same time. It was crowded and hot, and I had a teenager with me (I'm sure you understand). The younger 2 kids were nothing but "I want, I want, I want". Don't know where they got that from.. my older kids have never in their lives used those words because they know using those words turns mom into a raving lunatic about how we don't have money and where they assume this money comes from.. etc. etc. Actually, the oldest is the opposite.. he wants a lot but refuses to ask, even if it's small and minor or necessary, and instead he becomes mopey until someone eventually figures out what he wants. So.. as I said.. fun but miserable.
Tuesday again hubby spent the day dealing with his father while I brought the twins to their orientation.
Wednesday was orientation in the morning for the kindergartener, Freshmen orientation at night for the oldest, hubby bringing his dad to the hospital that afternoon where his father ended up being admitted and released today, and I got to pick my mother up from surgery that afternoon. Also the middle 2 boys had a soccer practice that evening also which was the highlight of my day because my 5 year old is awesome at soccer.. as awesome as a 5 year old can be, and I loved it! He was so cute and fun to watch. Though hubby wasn't pleased when he found out that the 5 year old's soccer program requires parent involvement, which means hubby gets to be out there practicing with more than a dozen 5 year olds.. because from this point on I can only work Wednesdays and weekends due to the oldest making the Varsity soccer team and having practices everyday till after 5pm (and I have no babysitter while the oldest is not home).
Thursday we painted FIL's dining room with some junk that's supposed to kill odors and stuff.. and I think it worked.. but that's only 1 room.. still many more to go.
Friday was shopping day.
Yesterday we went back to the fair.. it was even hotter and more crowded.. but this time we warned the kids ahead of time that there'd be no rides or games because they did that on Monday and we only had enough $ for food and drinks. It was nice though. We caught a lot of free shows. My older 2 boys became volunteers in the Harlem Wizards show and the 8yo got a t-shirt for allowing the guys to jump over him, and the oldest got a picture for playing a game of catch. We saw a circus (sort of), high dive show which wasn't overly impressive except for the guy who jumped from about 50 feet while completely lit on fire, and caught part of the Script concert which was over crowded with a bunch of rude teenage girls who don't understand the meaning of personal space.. or maybe I'm just too old for concerts or something.
Today was the end of my vacation.. I had to work. Hubby goes back to work Tuesday and the kids go back to school Tuesday.

Ah yes, very busy. It was really hot when we went to the fair too. The kids actually all wanted to leave early, which was weird.
So your kids all have orientation? None of mine did, except when Dearra started high school.

I think Naomi did have some kind of an orientation, it's just that it was handled as a field trip while she was in elementary school.

I didn't find out until like the Saturday before that the twins were having an orientation, just because they're switching schools. They're in the middle school building now, even though they're only in 4th grade. They'll still have another orientation when they enter 6th grade.

You mean to say you went to the California Academy of Sciences without me?
I don't know Dawn, I think I should win the brownie after that! Then again, if you have a Dodge, you deserve it a lot more than I do! LOL
Happy mylotting!
PS Aren't kids great?

Yes, you get the brownie.
Maybe the next time your son won't get into your daughter's face when she's trying to sleep. Life lessons... learned the painful way.
Kids learn to entertain themselves if they aren't given all of the gadgets to entertain them. We all managed without televisions and Game Cubes in the auto, and most of us turned out okay (and the ones who didn't wouldn't have been helped with the presence of TVs and Game Cubes).

Yeah we did entertain ourselves without all the gadgets. But we also poked each other and complained and got in each other's faces. Not so much has changed, I guess.

I am sorry that you haven't had the best day, it sounds like you're having a bit of a bad time of it recently! You should try and relax and maybe have a nice warm bath with some candles and a good book so that you can wind down and enjoy (or at least try to) the rest of the day that is left for you. I like to make lists during hard times of everything that I am thankful for in my life, including my family and friends, and I am soon able to see that these lists outweigh everything bad that happens in my life by far.

Wow what a week and thankfully it is over. Now for the following week, I can't make you any promises that your work week will be smoother, but having been off for three days will somehow compensate. Plus you will only work for 4 days next week so that has to make up for some of all the craziness last week.
As for the digest, hmm happens and there is always next week. lol

Boy you had me worried, I thought the oil, lube and filter were for you.
Yes, it's amazing when you tell the doctor's to send the information to you and the lab. Things always seems to work out better when you put the pressure on. Sound like you will get the brownie this week I'm glad you go the extended warranty on the car. That could've been an expensive repair. I find it funny they had the part in stock. That tells me as an ex-part person, that particular part fails a lot. I think they sould figure out why. I'm glad they finally schedule your procedure. Best Wishes!

Goodness what a day. OK - what's a sedan? Is it what we call a saloon car? I've had those days too but can't recall one right now. I'm in bed, cup of tea on its way and I'm contemplating a sunday taking visitors round the Cathedral. I've got a US tour in at 12.30. Want to join them?

Hello, esteemed friend Dawn from beautiful site called MyLot which is best on Internet. Sometimes peoples are sent the trialings to test their strength of characterfulness and level at which they are chucking toys out of the prams. Esteemed friend Dawn has been tested and has dealed with all the things that this wonderful thing called life, which is best life on the planet, is throwing at her.
Indeed this story is full of sadfulness which is making me cry tears into my vodka, which is diluting it, and not allowing for the drunkfulness which is usually happening when Sandra and vodka are joined together in blissfulness. This reveals to me the purpose of your trialings - it is to save your humble and most unworthy friend from waking up in the morning feeling as if a herd of camels is trampling through her head, complete with riders.
Because I am so full of grateful gratitudeness, I am advising that although you have definitely won the brownie with your tale of such woefulness, please do not to eat it. Brownies are sent to tempt the peoples away from the healthful eatings, and you will just be getting expansion of the butt, which is small reward and may stop esteemed friend from copping of with handsome new man full of manfulness to bring smiling to face and springfulness to steppings.

Somewhere in your comments here you did say that your topic is long and yes it is. But what I normally do is look around and read through a couple of responses and more or less get the gist of what you want to say. Sorry about that. Anyway this too will pass as it happens with all of us. Take that Brownie its yours so far but one never knows there could be someone here with experiences worse than what you have gone through.
