I do not believe this because i am a regular rice eater and my food is never complete without rice. weight issues are some time hereditary and some times because of hormonal dis balance also and most of the time bad eating and no exercising routine. Rice contributes to the same amount of calories as wheat. It is the quantity of rice that matters a lot. Researches have shown that rice is a good source of complex carbohydrates and act as a good source of protein alternatives for meat in a vegetarian diet.

Yes, it will increase one's weight if you take large portions of it everyday. One has to limit the amount of rice one takes everyday. A cup of rice they say converts to about 6 spoons of sugar. Now that's for rice alone and for only one cup. If you consume rice 3x a day and more than a cup per meal, then no doubt, you are going to gain weight.

Not necessarily so. An increase in wight depends on factors like 1- The amount eaten 2- The type of side dishes, which may be loaded with fat or carbohydrates 3- The type of rice. For example glutinous rice is high in carbohydrates. The type of rice that I have been eating for the past year did not help me to gain weight.

Here the rice plays a main role in our diet. We will have it everyday. However, I don't think there are many people who are over weight here. So it proves that the rice will not increase your weight. Compare to other food, rice is a healthy food as it belongs to a kind of plant. I love China

Because of diabetes neither me nor my wife eat rice any more, it is only once in a month she cooks pulao rice, may be with meat or veggy type, but we take half a plate with chapati or paratha with less ghee or oil. rice certainly adds to ones weight.. Thanks for sharing this nice discussion Best of luck. Professor

I don't believe this, I think it depends on one's body. I am so thin but I eat enough rice on every meal.

Hi I have heard that eating more rice every day can increase your weight. But I am not regular eater of rice. At our home it rarely made. But I have heard in news that one Indian Cricketer (Dhoni) was eating plain rice with curd for a diet. And he had decreased the weight too. I don't know is it true or not but that's what I heard in the news.

I can't say pro or con on the rice. But I do know all the chinese restaurants serve it and I sure don't see to many fat chinese people! I was raised on rice. Mom made white rice and served it as breakfast. Sugar and milk just like a cereal. I still eat it. I love fried rice and will get either the veggie fried rice or pork fried rice. I think the rice cereal though would be way better than all the sweet cereals on the market that probably should be used as a snack instead of a actual breakfast food for kids.

I think rice is the culprit why people get big and obese. Too much rice on the diet.

we eat rice 3x/day and we dont have problem with our weight. my family and I have stable weight, none of my family has problem with over weight. We eat 2-3 big spoons of rice/meal time and we dont feel like eating if we dont eat without rice. But in my family we always eat rice with vegetables, maybe it is also one of factors why our body weight are stable and another factors to keep our body weight stable is by exercising and eating fruits or drinking fresh juices without sugar. But becareful if you are a diabetic, you need to reduce the amount of rice from your daily meal.

I don't think so....Our main food is rice...We all are eating rice every day at least twice a day....I don't think that rice will make fat....The eating of things like chicken,Fish etc as curries will increase your weight....The person which increases his weight by eating rice can avoid non veg. And use vegetables.... Thank you...

Its ok if you dont intake a large portion of rice on a daily basis..i think too much of any kind of food is not good for health and its same for rice, its a starch but probably it is healthiest..there are many factors that determine whether you put on fat or not. becoming overweight does not happen by eating too much of one kind of food, but rather you eat more calories than your body needs..

I don't think rice increases weight. If it would have then only rice eaters would have found fatty. But maximum hard workers eat only rice. Rice contains carbohydrates, sugar & oil. Because of which it give huge energy. Further rice contains more water, Therefore easy to digest. It is our habits put on weight and not rice.

I have swayed between being overweight to slightly over weight for a great part of the last 15 years.Whenever i have reduced my intake of rice and substituted with salad and wheat my weight has been in control. But this schedule has to be backed by regular exercise. As we grow older we can exercise but not to the extent when we were younger, hence we ought to eat whole wheat bread and proteins can also be acquired in the form of soya beans.

L love to eat rice too, some countries the rice is not the same, some starchy which i dont like, brown rice are known to have more nutrients than white rice. We should take anything in moderate. Those who cant tolerate protein in oats, rye, wheat or barley can opt for rice. Rice also have low salt, low fat, low sugar and cholesterol free. I got to know about it from my dietician friend.

Oh if we could all blame our weight gain on heredity and hormones, that would be good, but fact is... well.. we get too many calories. Rice is 85% carbohydrate and only 8 percent protein. Rice is like anything else that is high in carbs... portion control is important. If you get more calories than you need in a day you gain weight. I eat rice, but not all the time. It doesn't matter how often I eat rice as long as I keep track of the total calories that I take in in a day. You can gain weight on most anything if you eat too much of it, including rice. If I eat rice, I leave off other starches such as bread or potato. I also be sure to only eat healthy portions of meat. We don't have to worry so much about one particular food, because there is no bad food. We just need to keep track of total calories in so we don't gain weight. There are people who don't have to worry about what they eat. They could eat me out of house and home and never gain weight, and then there are those like me who have to watch the calorie intake. My daughter was skinny her whole life, but now that she hit 35 she started gaining and at 41 years old she gained from 130 pounds to 270. She is losing that weight now, but that is because I really try to keep everyone on portion control.

I'm an Asian, and rice is very abundant in my country. But did you know that rice was never meant to be eaten by humans. Cavemen eat raw foods such as meat, fruits, vegetables, etc. because we have enzymes in our body that can break those raw foods. But rice or any grains cannot be eaten raw, it needs to be cooked, because we don't have enzymes that can break them down when they are raw.
